7B Unit 5 Water
本单元也是上学期7A第三单元 “The Earth(以地球上存在的环境问题为主线)”的一个延续。
Reading(R) Water Talks

Speaking(SP) Speak up How water becomes rain
Writing (WR) An Experiment
More Practice (MP) Facts about Water
A篇
Over two thirds of Earth’s surface is covered by water and less than a third is taken up by land. As there are more and more people on the Earth, people are using more and more water on the planet.
We know that pollution is a human problem: Before the 19th century Industrial Revolution, people live in a better environment. As industrialization spread around the planet, the problem of pollution has spread with it. When the number of people on the Earth was much smaller, no one believed water pollution would ever be a big problem. It was once popularly believed that the oceans were too big to be polluted before the 19th century. Today, with around 7 billion people on the planet, it has clearly showed that there are problems. Water pollution is one the of the most serious ones around the world now. How can we stop water pollution
Studying
Making people get to know the problem is the first step to solve it. It can make a great difference for the water environment if people study the problem. They can know more about the danger of the water pollution.
Having rules
Having rules can make it tough for people to pollute water. People have to think about the pollution more often and cannot pollute the water or oceans easily because of the rules. Most countries also have their water pollution rules. In the United States, for example, there is the 1972 Clean Water Act and the 1974 Safe Drinking Water Act.
Money
Most scientists agree that the best way to stop pollution is through something called “the polluter pays” principle. This means that whoever produces pollution should have to pay to clean it up, one way or another.

B篇
Water is very important to us. We can't live without water. As we all know, there is much water on the Earth. But do you know if there is water on other planets
Scientists found water in little glass balls on the moon. ▲ But now we know there is water on the surface(表面)and inside rocks.
A professor named Mahesh Anand said that when the sun was shining, he saw water molecules moving on the moon. A team of scientists from China studied 117 glass beads(珠子)that the Chang'e-5 spaceship brought back to the Earth in 2020.The beads were made of very small space rocks. The rocks hit the moon's surface and melt(融化)the ground. The melted material cooled into round glass beads. The beads were as wide as a strand of hair.
The scientists said that the glass beads are probably the main place where water on the moon comes from. The beads may make up about 3% to 5% of the moon's soil. The scientists there could be about 300 billion tons of water inside all the beads on the moon.
If someone heats the glass beads up just a little, around 100℃,he can get the water out. The European Space Agency's robot drill, PROSPECT, might be the first to try to do this in 2025 .
NASA will go to the moon's South Pole next year to look for ice. It will take people to the moon in the next few years.
