How is the solar term Jingzhe related to insects
Falling on March 5th this year, Jingzhe, or the “the Wakening of Insects”, is one of the 24 solar terms in the Chinese lunar calendar. 1
The beginning of March brings some unusual weather, as temperatures rise and rainfall comes with thunderstorms. According to classic Chinese writings, this thunder would awaken insects that had been sleeping for the whole winter. 2 Soon, flowers with different colours appear on trees while birds sing happily from trees to branches.
Chinese farmers pay much attention to Jingzhe, since it marks the start of spring plowing (春耕), one of the busiest times for hard-working farmers. 3 Livestock, such as cocks, pigs and cows, also need to be protected from diseases.
4 It is thought to be healthy to do so when the weather is changing. As the weather gets warmer and the air becomes dry, people may feel their mouths and tongues dry, which can cause colds or coughs. 5 They can make our mouths a little wet and protect our dry throats. People in China also have various methods of preparing pears so people can taste pears easily in spring.
A.They rise up from the earth and many other animals also make their first appearance of the year.
B.These terms were used in ancient China to help farmers work.
C.Pears are sweet, juicy and cold.
D.Another Jingzhe tradition is eating pears.
E.With the sounds made by insects, it is the key time to keep away pests which will eat crops and plants.

Lots of people love to keep pets, but they don’t know how to communicate with their pets. 6 If your answer is “yes”, here are some tips for you.
7 Your pet may not exactly understand your words, but it can at least pick up something in your voice. For example, if you speak with it in a cold and hard voice, it might realize that you are unhappy with it.
Use non-verbal(非语言)communication. Your non-verbal communication is just as important as verbal communication. Non-verbal communication is often used to teach your pet to do a certain activity. 8 When you teach your dog to sit, you would actually use both verbal and non-verbal communication(hand signals)to give it the “sit order”.
Don’t punish your pet. Punishing your pet is never a good idea. Punishment can make your pet afraid of you. 9 However, some pets like cats, can not make any connection between your punishment and the behavior you punish them for. 10
A.Chat with your pet.
B.They don’t understand why you do that at all.
C.For example, if you are sitting on your horse, you would use your legs and hands to tell your horse the direction.
D.In addition, you will possibly lose its trust and respect for you.
E.Are you one of the keepers

Good morning, everyone. I am going to talk about two kinds of cultural differences in our daily life.
Different cultures affect people’s ways of thinking and their opinions. 16 How do we Chinese greet each other If a Chinese meet a friend in the street, he usually says, “Hi, have you eaten ” However, in the western countries, the above question is just a question, not greeting at all. 17 Usually western people have different ways to greet. They will just give each other a smile or greet with a “Hi”.
18 In Chinese families, we seldom say “Thank you!” to other family members for receiving help or service, neither do we say so between good friends. That’s because if you say “Thank you!” to them, they may think you are treating them as strangers. 19 Teachers will thank a student for answering a question and a father will thank his son for helping him wash the car.
20 You’d better be aware of them while communicating with the people from other countries or when you are abroad. As the saying goes, “When you are in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
Thank you for listening.
A.All the above are just some examples of cultural differences.
B.People’s communication with others begins with greeting.
C.Expressing gratitude is another difference in different cultures.
D.But in the west, it is one of the most commonly used sentences.
E.Westerners may think you are inviting them to a meal.

Lanterns(灯笼)have been part of Chinese culture for centuries and played an important part in many celebrations. In ancient times, there were mainly three kinds of lanterns:

When making palace lanterns, fine wood was used. The palace lanterns were covered with silk or glass. Different kinds of pictures were drawn on the covers. 21 These lanterns were used not only to make the palaces bright, but also to make them beautiful.
Gauze(纱)lantern
Less expensive bamboo and gauze were used to cover the lantern. Red gauze was used when making them. 22 So red lanterns are always hung on important festivals such as Lantern Festival, Spring Festival and National Day in parks along main streets. In some famous Chinatowns abroad, you can see red lanterns all the year round. 23
Shadow-picture lantern(走马灯)
It was usually used for fun. 24 But there were two layers(层)of covers and pictures were drawn on the inside layer. When the candle was lit, the heat caused a paper wheel inside the lantern to turn around, so that moving pictures appeared on the outside cover.
Now more kinds of lanterns appear in festivals besides the traditional ones. More modern technology is used to make lanterns. 25

Hello, I am Hanna from France. I have been studying in Dalian Minzu University for four years. 31 Among all the things I learned here, the great spirits of the young Chinese impressed me the most.
Before I came to China, I learned that Chinese people are hard-working, which was proved by my best friend Wang Lulu, a 25-year-old Chinese girl. 32 Whether taking a bus, walking or doing housework, she uses every minute to listen to foreign news and takes every chance to talk with foreigners. Now she is good at English.
33 I saw many young Chinese volunteers send food and help organize people to take the nucleic acid test. Most often, they had to work for over 12 hours a day, but they just faced the difficulties with warm hearts!
The last thing I want to mention is the great respect that young Chinese have shown to their traditional culture. I still remember when attending the traditional Chinese handcraft class, all my Chinese classmates showed great interest in their traditional art and their teacher, a famous traditional Chinese artist. 34
I am lucky to have witnessed many great moments in China, such as the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the return of Shenzhou XIII manned spacecraft and more. I learned from the news report that many of these great projects are undertaken by young Chinese scientists, and the average age of young engineers is under 30. 35 The young generation is surely making China better and stronger in the future.
A.She keeps improving her language skills in her busy life.
B.I love the pleasant living environment and learn a lot about China.
C.So, I would like to say that China’s success is not because of chance.
D.Taking pleasure for helping others is what I saw in the battle against the pandemic(疫情).
E.In addition, it is very common to see college students wear traditional Chinese clothes
