While music makes Jay Chou worldwide popular, he becomes much more than a musician. After trying his hand at acting and making movies, Chou turns his focus on the art world. The pop star shows his art collection in his music videos. Chou’s love for art doesn’t come out of the blue (突如其来). According to the pop star, his first contact (接触) with art goes back to a very early time when he was born. Chou’s mother worked as an art teacher,so his childhood was around art. With the growth of age, . Up till now, he has not only showed people lots of music creations, but also organized many art exhibitions. The latest one, “Art Encounters (邂逅) With Jay” was open in Xuhui, Shanghai in October, 2023.

For example, the way of dealing with a scene (场景) is different from an artist to another. And different people often understand a piece of art differently. The true value of an artwork (艺术作品) is not in its price, it’s in the viewer’s feelings and experiences.
Chou sees art as the bridge for communicating different views and values. By organizing art exhibitions, he wants to help more people enjoy art. The next time you look at a painting, a poem or a song, pay attention to how it makes you feel. Then ask your friends about their feelings and ideas. In the same way that humans have a need to communicate, animals have it to send and receive messages as well. This communication may be to tell others where food is or to show feelings such as happiness, sadness, or anger.
But how do animals communicate According to a study carried out in 1898 by a scientist called Char, there are usually three ways for them to communicate.
For example, if a monkey notices a snake, it will give an alarm call for the other monkeys to climb into the trees. If the monkey notices an eagle, it will send loud noise to tell other monkeys to get close to the ground. Dolphins have a special way that works as a whistle for it to communicate. This whistle is similar to the singing voice of humans! The second way seems quite different. Those with a pet dog will easily know how a happy dog happily moves its tail. A cat that feels it is in danger will stand with its back high. Bees also work like this. They will dance in groups to tell other bees where the food might be. Another type of animal communication takes place among some certain animals. For example, elephants and giraffes will touch their friends if they like each other. Horses also touch their noses together as a sign that they are comfortable with one another.
It is truly amazing to discover the nature’s secret and exciting for us to take a step closer to
the animal world. More and more countries have put much money and effort into further research on this. At the same time, plenty of different voices are appearing. Is it really necessary to waste so much money on something that may be meaningless to us humans ________

A rich man lived in a small town. He was very kind, but his son had started hanging out with a kid who often told lies. The father tried to warn his son about this, but his son wouldn’t listen.
One day, an old wise man came to the town. The father went to the wise man to ask for advice. The wise man said, “Send your son to me tomorrow morning. I will talk to him.”
The next morning, the father sent his son over. The wise man asked the son to pick a rose from his garden and said, “Smell it and feel its fragrance (芬芳).” The boy did so. Then the wise man showed the son a bag of wheat (小麦) and asked the boy to put the rose next to the bag.

I looked into the mirror and checked if I was dressed up properly. YES! My hair was clean and my tie was straight. So I confidently went to the stage, imagining how proud my parents would be! That evening, I was the pianist playing in the school concert for the first time. When the concert was over, I couldn’t wait to share my joy with my family. However, only my mother was there. Do you know that about 25 percent of the calls in our country are through the network we built ” “Wow!” “But it’s hard work. You know, China started late in many ways. At just 14 years old, Ryan Hickman from San Juan Hills High School, US, attracts a lot of eyes with a beach clean-up activity. On April 20th, 2024, he and many volunteers started a five-week activity to pick up trash from five beaches along the Southern California coast and even some beaches in Mexico.
“The trash ends up in the ocean, and animals are eating it,” Ryan told The Orange County Register. “Picking up a piece of trash may save a turtle’s life.” He has collected about 2 million bottles from beaches, lakes and rivers since 2012.
Ryan first learned about the influence of pollution at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC,太平洋海洋哺乳动物中心) in Laguna Beach, which has been saving and protecting sea animals for more than 40 years. Watching sea animals improve inspired him to think about what he could do to help to save them.

Ryan has also traveled worldwide, speaking to kids about caring for our planet and oceans. He hopes every kid can do something.

It is truly amazing to discover the nature’s secret and exciting for us to take a step closer to the animal world. More and more countries have put much money and effort into further research on this. At the same time, plenty of different voices are appearing. Is it really necessary to waste so much money on something that may be meaningless to us humans ________
All in all, every coin has its two sides. We shall wait and see what this change can bring us in the future.

Mask(口罩) pollution has become a serious problem during the last few years. We should take action from now on to control it.
As we can see, disposable(一次性) face masks have become a new kind of rubbish. In fact, they may have a new use. Scientists did a lot of research and found that there is a material in masks that can be added to the making of concrete(混凝土) to make it stronger and hard to break. A university has also found that this material can also improve the quality(质量) of roads. The following text is a letter from a middle school student. Dear Mayor(市长), My name is Chen Hui. Recently, I have noticed a serious environmental problem in our city. One day, I found a bird with a blue mask wrapped(被缠绕的) under its mouth and wings. And I believe many other animals were influenced by masks. We can find masks in many places. Some are caught by wind, washed down in the drains(下水道), and then ended up in the ocean. The bright colors of masks can be easily mistaken as food by birds. If they are thrown into the river or sea, the fish and other sea animals may be at risk of being injured because of them. In order to control it and protect the environment, we need the government to call on people to take action from now on. ________
In recent years, masks have become an important thing in people’s life. More than 90% of masks are made of plastic, and it will take more than 400 years to fully degrade(降解) them. Our government is paying much attention to the problem of mask pollution. So far, our government has made a lot of

Since it began on May 13 in Rongjiang county, Guizhou province, a total of 20 teams of local people have been playing for the honor of their villages. The teams compete on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the final competition on July 29 this year. Organized by local soccer fans, Village Super has attracted players from all walks of life, such as farmers, vendors, small business owners, construction workers and excavator drivers.

①A Teacher’s DiaryApril 14 I put Sharla, Tony, and Lee together to make a volcano(火山). I knew they weren’t good friends, and I encouraged all my students to learn to work together. Something blew up! One looked mad, one looked sad, and one was nearly in tears. They didn’t agree with each other. Oh, dear! I calmed them down. But they couldn’t agree on even the base for the volcano, and Tony didn’t want to touch the paste(浆糊). I wondered if I had made a big mistake. Maybe this was one group who couldn’t work
together.
②A Student’s DiaryApril 16 Yesterday, Mrs. Holt made us stay behind so we could finish planning our volcano. Anyway, we finally moved ahead with our project. I was making my side smooth. Tony just watched (unfair). I told Lee to smooth out her side, too. “No, Sharla, it should look like a real mountain,” she said just as if she were the boss. The whole thing went downhill. The day ended with no progress.
③The Show TimeThe last workday for the project came. “Is there a problem ” Mrs. Holt knew well there was a problem. She wanted them to put it in their own words, though. “Well, I think the volcano should be smooth.” Sharla began. “And,” jumped in Lee, “it should look rocky, like a real mountain.” “I see. What do you think, Tony ” Mrs. Holt waited. “Well, I think it would have lava(岩浆) running down.” “Hey, a great idea!” cut in Sharla, “The lava would be smooth. Right Mrs. Holt ” Sharla continued. “The other side without lava would look rocky. Right ” Tony caught on. “So one side can be smooth, and the other rocky. Come on, you guys, let’s go finish!” It was the show time.________

She explained, “Son, your dad is called out to work.”
I was a little unhappy, though not very surprised. Because it was not the first time that my father was absent. As a manager in a big telecommunications(电信) company, my father was very busy with his work all year around. In fact, I didn’t have much time with him. Every time when I complained about it, my father always said, “Everyone has his duty(责任), and I have mine.”
Later, I had a chance to visit father’s company. He pointed to a big iron tower and said, “Son, that is a base station. Do you know that about 25 percent of the calls in our country are through the network we built ” “Wow!” “But it’s hard work. You know, China started late in many ways. We have to work hard and sometimes even give up time with family.”
Now, more and more people are amazed at the Chinese miracle(奇迹). If any foreign friend asks me what makes the Chinese miracle, I want to tell that behind the miracle there is always a story like my father’s.
