Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed an incredible change in their elder son: suddenly he seemed to talk far more to his friends than to his parents. “The door to his room is always shut,” Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter. “She used to cuddle up to (依偎) me on the sofa and talk,” said Mark. “Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is figuring out which time is which.”
Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what's on their minds. “In fact, parents are first in the list,” said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. “This completely changes during the teen years,” Riera explained. “They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”
Parents who know what's going on in their teenagers' lives are in the best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.

B.Teenagers do not want to understand their parents.
C.Teenagers talk little about their own lives.
D.Teenagers do not talk much with their parents.

C.Parents should be patient with their silent teenagers.
D.Parents have suitable ways to talk with their teenagers.

What makes people succeed People are wondering it for a long time. Now, many researchers think there are two qualities which make the difference between men of great success and men of average performance: curiosity and discontent. Usually an outstanding man possesses both of them.
Together, these deep human urges count for much more than ambition. Galileo was not merely ambitious when he dropped objects of varying weights from the Leaning Tower at Pisa and timed their fall to the ground. Like Galileo, all the great names in history were curious and asked in discontent, “Why Why Why ”
Fortunately, curiosity and discontent don't have to be learned. People are born with them and need only recapture them.
“The great man,” said Mencius(孟子), “is he who does not lose his child's heart.” Yet most of us do lose it. We stop asking questions. We stop challenging custom. We just follow the crowd. And the crowd desires only the calm and restful average. It encourages us to occupy our own little corner, to avoid foolish leaps into the dark, to be satisfied.
Most people meet new people, and new ideas, with hesitation. But once having met and liked them, people think how terrible it would have been, had they missed the chance. They will probably have to force themselves to waken their curiosity and discontent and keep them awake.
How should you start so as not to become discouraged There was once a girl who couldn't arrange flowers to satisfy herself. She was curious about how the experts did it. Later she became one of the experts, writing books on flower arrangement.
One way to begin is to answer your own excuses. You haven't any special ability Most people don't; there are only a few geniuses. You haven't any time That's good, because it's always the people with no time who get things done. Harriet Stowe, mother of six, wrote parts of Uncle Tom's Cabin while cooking. You're too old Remember that Thomas Costain was 57 when he published his first novel, and that Grandma Moses showed her first pictures when she was 78.
However you start, remember there is no better time to start than right now, for you'll never be more alive than you are at this moment.
28.What does the author aim to do in writing Paragraph 1
A.To propose a definition. B.To make a comparison.
C.To reach a conclusion. D.To present an argument.
29.What does the example of Galileo tell us
A.Trial and error leads to the finding of truth.
B.Scientists tend to be curious and ambitious.
C.Creativity results from challenging authority.
D.Greatness comes from a lasting desire to explore.
30.What can we learn from Paragraphs 6 and 7
A.Gaining success helps you become an expert.
B.The genius tends to get things done creatively.
C.Lack of talent and time is no reason for taking no action.

C.You are too old to start.

The sun was rising as we drove across the Minnesota state line to New York for my new Ph.D. program. The move was good for me professionally, but I worried about my husband and daughters. I also feared that I wouldn't be able to give my kids the childhood they deserved.
Anne, our first daughter, came into the world when I was a junior majoring in biology in college. It was challenging to balance classes, work schedules, and being a mom. But I got it through, finding moments of delight along the way. On the nights when I was at home, I'd read my class notes out loud to my daughter. She'd respond by asking questions, such as “Mom, what are bacteria ” It helped us both learn.
After I graduated, I knew that I would need a Ph.D. to land the kind of job I wanted. I arrived in New York feeling more than the usual new-graduate-student anxiety. I also suffered from a more personal fear that I was selfish—my decision to invigorate my career was going to have long-term negative impacts on my kids.
Over the past year, though, I've started to let go of some of the worry. I've realized that not only have we adapted to our new situation, but things are getting better. My husband has landed a job that he is happy with. Anne has dreamed of becoming a marine biologist. Recently, while driving past the cancer institute I work at, Anne said, “Thinking about people having cancer is so sad, but I feel better knowing that you are researching it to help.”
Navigating academia as a young mother is hard, but it's also rewarding. My kids are learning to look at the world through the lens of science, and watching their mom succeed inspires them. I look forward to seeing them follow my footsteps, whatever path they choose.
32.How did the writer feel about the move for herPh.D. program
A.It was fruitful but exhausting.

34.What can be inferred from Anne's words in Paragraph 4
A.People are afraid of having cancer.
B.Cancer is the No. 1 enemy of health.
C.Her mother takes her job seriously.
D.Anne is proud of her mother.
35.What could be the best title for the text

D.The Generation Gap Narrowed by Love

Dark rain clouds were gathering in the sky. I was cycling as fast as I could to get home before the downpour. When I felt a few big drops on my head, I decided to dash for a bus stop, about a hundred meters away. As I was nearing the bus stop, I saw a lady rushing towards it from the opposite direction, a little boy following her. The little boy was finding it hard to keep up with her, so, finally, she just picked him up and carried him.
Suddenly, a motorcycle roared past me, almost knocking me down. The motorcyclist turned to look at me, and for a split second, I saw his cruel, glaring eyes. A flood of fear crept over me. However, courage from nowhere got me to shout “Hey! Are you mad ” My voice trembled a bit. He just sped up. Then, I realized that he was rushing right towards the woman and the little boy!
“Watch out! Watch out!” I shouted. I saw the lady turn to look at the motorcyclist, with worry on her face. In an instant, the motorcyclist reached the lady. He stretched out an arm and grabbed hold of her handbag, hitting her on the back at the same time. The impact sent the lady hurtling (猛冲) forward. The mother and child fell on the road, landing right into the path of an oncoming van.
“Stop! Stop!” I screamed at the van driver, waving my arms wildly in the air. Thankfully, the van stopped a few meters from the spot where the mother and child lay. I saw the lady crawling on the road towards the crying child. Throwing my bicycle at the side of the road, I ran to help them.

The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch中的“Bringing food for colorful picnics is encouraged.”
根据Harper's Topiary Garden 中的“Many years ago, a neighbor's Cape honeysuckles started climbing to Edna Harper's garden. The artist welcomed the invaders and began shaping them into elephants, dinosaurs, and many other shapes.” 故选A项。
B
根据第一段中的“suddenly he seemed to talk far more to his friends than to his parents”可知,孩子会和朋友有更多交流,而不想和父母交流,所以此处表明他不愿意和父母接触,故选A。
根据第二段中的“Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is figuring out which time is which.”
根据第三段最后一句“They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”和画线短语后的“parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say(父母应该创造机会去理解他们的孩子想说什么)”可知,孩子不愿意跟父母说他们的想法,所以“the wall of silence”在本文中指的是父母和孩子之间的沉默,即交流少,故选D。
根据最后一段中的“parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them”和“Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend...”
故选A。
D
根据第一段中的“The move was good for me professionally, but I worried about my husband and daughters. I also feared that I wouldn't be able to give my kids the childhood they deserved.(这次搬家对我的职业生涯有好处,但我担心我的丈夫和女儿们。
根据第三段中的“After I graduated, I knew that I would need a Ph.D. to land the kind of job I wanted.”
根据第四段中的“Recently, while driving past the cancer institute I work at, Anne said, ‘Thinking about people having cancer is so sad, but I feel better knowing that you are researching it to help.’”
根据第一段中的“The move was good for me professionally, but...the childhood they deserved.”和倒数第二段中的“Over the past year, though, I've started to let go of some of the worry...Anne has dreamed of becoming a marine biologist.”及最后一段中的“Navigating academia as a young mother is hard, but it's also rewarding.”

42.D 结合下文“clean water projects around the world and saving lives”和“to help fund a well in Ethiopia”可知,这些折纸正在为世界各地的清洁饮水项目筹集资金,拯救生命,故选D。
44.C 结合下文“they were fetching water all day for their families”可知,女孩整天为家里取水,由此可推知是缺乏清洁的水,故选C。
48.B 由上文可知,她们最初只是想筹集建一口井的钱,结合下文“they ended up selling out of paper decorations and raising far more than that”可知,她们最终卖光了折纸,筹集到了远多于建一口水井的钱,这是出乎她们的意料的,故选B。
结合下文“the founding of the project Paper for Water”可知,姐妹二人的行为促成了Paper for Water项目的建立,故选C。
51.D 结合下文“more than 2 million dollars for over 200 water projects in 20 different countries”可知是指为20个不同国家的200多个饮水项目筹集了200多万美元,故选D。
52.A 结合上文“the rest of the Adams family are also”可知,亚当斯家里的其他成员也参与其中。故选A。
53.B 结合下文“Kids have an incredible ability to make a real”可知,两姐妹希望用自己的行动来鼓舞其他孩子。
55.A 结合上文“if they're just given the chance”可知,此处表示只要孩子们被给予机会和支持,他们也可以影响世界。故选A。
故填more diverse。
故填are。
have...in common意为“在…… 故填in。
故填are caused。
63.who/that 考查定语从句。 故填who或that。
故填a。
learn后可接动词不定式作宾语,构成learn to do sth.结构。故填to respect。
One possible version:
When it comes to the advantages of urban life, what comes into our minds are the well-established transportation system, quality education and health care as well as comfortable living conditions, which are the main attractions of modern city life.
However, as a result of the widespread use of modern vehicles and booming industry, there are some disadvantages that can't be ignored. For instance, traffic jams have become a big headache for the people driving to and from work. Besides, noise and harmful smoke pose a threat to people's health.
Despite the disadvantages above, I still think it suitable for people to live in the city where there are various cultural events and people can enjoy the convenience of modern life.
第二节
One possible version:
By the time I got there, the van driver had reached them. He was gently holding the child and examining his body. Fortunately, the little boy was all right. “Don't panic. You'll be all right. We'll rush you to a hospital,” I said to the woman, trying to relieve her anxiety. The lady could not walk, so the man carried her and settled her in his van. I carried the whimpering child to the van and set him beside his mother. The man asked me to go along with them so that I could help make the police report.
I realized,by this time, that the motorcyclist must have gone far from that spot, with the lady's handbag. A few days later, I received a phone call from the woman. I was informed that she had already been discharged from the hospital. “What's more, the snatch thief was finally arrested and put into jail, thanks to your detailed description of his facial features,” she added. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your timely help.” Finishing the telephone call, I felt overwhelmed by delight from the bottom of my heart. The warm sunshine shone in. What a meaningful day!
