stay up是固定搭配，意为“熬夜”。
例：She stayed up until 2:00 a.m.她熬夜到凌晨两点。
4....that's why it's important to learn a second language. ……这

（1）“That's why...”意为“这就是为什么……；这就是……的原
因”，why引导表语从句。
例：That's why he didn't come.这就是他没有来的原因。
（2）a second language意为“第二语言；又一门语言”。
例：English is a useful language. It is often used as a second
language.

了高中学业。
辨析：ago与before。
ago意为“以前”。“一段时间+ago”在句中作状语时，谓语动词要用过
去式。
例：He went to Shanghai a month ago.他一个月以前去上海了。
before位于表示时间的词语、句子之前，表示“在……之前”。
例：Please come to my office before nine o'clock.请在9点以前来
我的办公室。
2.There we put up our tents and made a fire to keep us warm
and cook food on.
在那里我们搭起帐篷，生火取暖并做饭。
put up是固定搭配，意为“搭起；举起”。put up a tent意为
“搭起帐篷”。
