Food safety is important and it doesn’t end at our door. The fridge is a perfect choice for keeping food safe and fresh, but it is not a magic box to keep all kinds of food. We should learn how to store food correctly in the fridge.
▲ Usually, the higher the shelf is, the higher the temperature will be. So make use of these different temperatures to get the best out of your food by storing it on the right shelf. Try to put vegetables and fruit on top shelves. The middle shelves are for food like burgers, pizza or cream cakes and the bottom shelves are for dairy products (乳制品) such as cheese, butter, yoghurt and eggs. Below is a freezer (冷冻室), it is the coldest part of the fridge, so it is perfect for storing raw (生的) meat and seafood.
Keeping food in the fridge does not kill bacteria (细菌) but it can stop the bacteria from growing fast. Bacteria can grow quickly in temperatures between 5℃ and 60℃. This is called the Temperature Danger Zone. If you want to get the most out of your food, the temperature in your fridge needs to be between 0℃ and 5℃. The freezer temperature should be below -18℃.

You must know police dogs. But how about “police squirrels” Months ago, Chongqing police successfully trained six squirrels to look for drugs(毒品).
Squirrels have a strong sense of smell. They can smell food 30 centimeters under snow. They are small so
they can look for drugs in narrow or high places. Dogs can’t reach these places. People teach the squirrels to use their claws(爪子) to scratch (抓) at boxes if they find drugs, says Chongqing police.
“We can train different animals by using our training ways,” Yin Jin, a police dog trainer in Chongqing, told us. The key is to build the animals’ conditioned reflex(条件反射).
First, the animals need to know the drug’s smell. Trainers can put something with the drug’s smell next to the animals’ food. Next, the animals learn to look for the drug in different places, such as from many bags.If the animals successfully find the drug, they can get snacks. Later, the conditioned reflex will be built. (22-23七年级下·广东深圳·期末)Animals can laugh, too. Their “laughter” may not sound like ours, but scientists have learned that many animals make sounds and faces, just like us.
A 2021 study by Sasha Winkler and Greg Bryant found that at least 65 animals make special noises when they are playing “When dogs play, they like to bark really heavily. Monkeys like to whistle(吹口哨), and even
birds will make short high sounds.” Bryant said. “The animals are telling each other they are having fun.”
Playing can look a lot like fighting among animals, so these play sounds help show that an animal means no harm. Bryant said, “They look like attacking someone, but they don’t really want others to think so, because others might be afraid and even attack back!” These sounds help to show that animals are not attacking when playing.
But it’s not just about the sound of a laugh. In 2022, scientists Marina Davila-Ross and Elisabetta Palagi looked at the faces animals make during play. Some animals, including chimpanzees, lions and African wild dogs, open their mouths wide in a laughing expression(表情)when they are having fun. Researchers think this might come from the movements during playful biting (咬).
Animals’ play sounds and laughing faces can help them to know each other’s feelings and play with each other better. According to Davila-Ross, this research also helps us to empathize with animals’ feelings more.

I live near the King’s palace(宫殿), in my sweet little home. Two days ago, I heard a great noise on the road when I was sleeping. I wanted to know who or what was making all that noise. When I got closer, I saw the King, riding along on top of a huge fat elephant. People were watching cheerfully that stupid elephant with a nose that is far too big for her face. She’s much uglier than me, I thought. Why couldn’t I get all the attention(注意) So I started to jump up and down and said, “Hey everyone! Why not look at me I’m such a cutie-pie!”
However, nobody saw me. They were all too busy watching that stupid elephant. I didn’t know that behind the elephant was the princess, and she was holding a cat in her arms. When he saw me, he started to run after me. I had to run for my life, and ran into a hole just in time before the cat could eat me up.

There have also been many other strong earthquakes. Some people are afraid that a “big one” will hit the state
someday. They think an earthquake will bring a huge number of problems.
