(22-23八年级下·广东深圳·期末)Feel down Hug a tree! Recently, many Chinese young people have turned to trees to help feel less nervous. Although it sounds strange, there’s a science behind the act of tree-hugging.
In 1984, US scientist Edward Wilson pointed out that humans are born to love being around other living things. Human’s love for nature is “in our DNA”. This idea helps to explain why people prefer natural, green views to city views. It’s also one of the reasons why people love cute pets.
Some scientists have studied why tree-hugging can help with our health. A study in 2021 reported that the activity can create more oxytocin (催产素) . It’s something connected with feelings. The higher the level of oxytocin is, the happier you may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds can produce oxytocin in bodies.
Hugging trees also helps cut cortisol (皮质醇) production, which makes us feel better. Cortisol is a marker of stress. The brain produces more cortisol when the person is worried, angry, or very sad.
Although the activity is helpful to us, it’s important to keep in mind that we shouldn’t hurt the nature while hugging trees. Trees often hold valuable environment. Many small living things live on the tree—and they are too small to be seen. You may want to be gentle when hugging trees—just like how you hug a friend!

People volunteer for different reasons, but mainly to help other people or animals. Volunteering not only is good for those who receive help, but also brings more good to the help-givers. For school-aged kids, volunteering helps build social skills and develop self-worth awareness (自我价值意识). Through volunteering, high school students may help themselves enter a good college, and college students can improve themselves for better jobs after graduation. To volunteer, one should know how to choose right work. If you are a first-time volunteer, short-term work will provide you with the best chance to see if the work is right for you. Short-term volunteering is especially valuable if you can help by providing skills not found at the organization. The vaquita (小头鼠海豚) is one of the smallest members of the dolphin and whale family. A vaquita is about 1.5 meters long with two black patches around their eyes. They only live in the northern part of the Gulf of California in Mexico. They can live for at least 21 years. Scientists believe that females probably give birth to a little vaquita between February and April every other year.
The vaquita is one of the most endangered animals in the world. They were first found by humans in 1958. However, they are in danger of disappearing now. The World Wildlife Fund says that about 10 vaquitas are left in the world. Last September, scientists found two baby vaquitas in the wild. The discovery was a sign of hope. But scientists worry that more vaquitas die each year than are born. The vaquita population was around 600 in 1997, but it reduced 90 percent between 2011 and 2016.
The vaquita’s biggest danger comes from humans. They are often caught in the fishing nets that are designed to catch fish such as totoaba (石首鱼). Many of them get hurt and even die. In 2017, the Mexican government stopped the use of such nets in the area to help save the vaquita. In January 2022, the government started a programme to protect the animal’s living areas. Local fishermen must pass a government inspection (检查) when fishing. The environmental group Sea Shepherd also joins in to help. (21-22八年级下·广东深圳·期末)Although many years have passed, I still remember the last year of my junior school. I had to prepare for the entrance test, which made me stressed(有压力的). I cried several nights.
When we are feeling very stressed, many of us may feel like crying. Shedding tears is a good way to deal with our “dark” emotions(情绪). When we cry, we are letting go of our stress, I certainly felt better after I had cried. After I had calmed myself down, I reached out to some friends and teachers who encouraged me. I managed to get an offer from a qualified senior school.
With increased competition, it isn’t surprising that many students today are feeling stressed out. Many of us think of our “dark” emotions to be our enemies(敌人). It appears silly for us to be so easily beaten by them. That’s why we might feel too shy to cry. When we are feeling sad, we may also have difficulty asking for help or talking to others.
“Dark” emotions are not in themselves a bad thing. Just like happiness, they are common. But you should certainly find ways to manage them. Try to take part in social events. Eat healthy, balanced meals. Find people who can support you. Exercise regularly. These things can all help. The most important thing, though, is to accept your feelings. They are nothing to be ashamed of.
61.Why did the writer cry when preparing the entrance test

(21-22八年级下·广东深圳·期末)A small cloud moves slowly through the air in a hospital operating room(手术室). In the room a patient with cancer lies on a table. The cloud is all around the patient, covering her body and filling her lungs. The cloud is not smoke. It is made of million of nano-robots(纳米机器人). These tiny robots move from cell(细胞)to cell in the patients’ body, killing the cancer.
Fighting cancer with nano-robots is only an idea today but scientists say that it could be possible in the the
future. Using nano-robots for good purpose such as fighting the illness or repairing the environment may be the way to many of today’s problems. In the future, scientists at Rutgers University believe that nano-robots will help operation because it is the transporter of biological elements such as DNA and proteins.
However, nano-robots cloud be a dangerous risk as well. Because nano-robots are so tiny, they will have to work in large teams of many thousands to many millions. For this reason, nano-robots will have to be programmed to build themselves. Scientists will not have the ability to build millions of nano-robots one by one.
This ability to re-produce is making some scientists worried. What will happen if something goes wrong in the programming Quite a lot of crazy nano-robots would be far worse than any illness. Some people think that if they get out of control, nano-robots could make the Earth gone.
