Fifteen years later, we returned to Batista with our ten - year-old daughter and seven-year-old son. Again, Gordy performed California Here I Come. Again, the meal was wonderful.
We were enjoying ourselves, in no hurry to leave, but after a while the kids grew impatient as we waited for the check. Ten minutes became thirty, and now the adults were also impatient.
"Where's the check " I complained.
"Where's our waiter " my wife echoed.
"Where's the bathroom " the kids needed to know.
Eventually, I caught the attention of a different waiter. I asked if he could get our check. He disappeared. We left without paying.
Before you get the wrong idea, let me explain. Our waiter turned up and told us that the two gentlemen at a table across the room had paid for our dinner but requested he not let us know until after they had gone. They saw a happy, young family, the waiter explained, and simply wanted to do something nice without us having to thank them.
Those two men gave us far more than an expensive meal free. They gave the four of us a warm memory that we talk about to this day. More importantly, those two gentlemen gave us a life lesson in random acts of kindness and giving. Coffee and a sandwich for a homeless person; texting a donation to an earthquake relief fund; a new backpack, books or shoes for a disadvantaged child—almost always my daughter and son recall that long-ago Batista's dinner as part of their motivation to give. My wife and I have felt similarly. While the Hole in the Wall dinner bill has been "paid forward" in full many times over in many ways, I have always felt the act itself has not been paid, a proper and worthy "thank you" not given.
24. How did the author feel as they waited for the check
A. Annoyed. B. Depressed. C. Delighted. D. Amazed.
25. Why did the two gentlemen pay the dinner bill for the family
A. They wanted to be appreciated.
B. They wanted to do something nice.
C. They wanted the family to enjoy a big dinner.
D. They wanted the family to give them more happiness.
26. What did the author indicate by mentioning "the act itself has not been paid"
A. He didn't help enough persons. B. He didn't donate the money.
C. He didn't express gratitude in person. D. He found the bill too expensive to be paid.
27. What can we learn from this story
A. What goes around comes around.
B. God helps those who help themselves.
C. Random acts of kindness make a difference.
D. Rose given, and the lasting fragrance remains.

In daily life, we see many people who despite their best efforts are not able to achieve what they want in life. They feel frustrated, helpless, and in despair. They usually question their fate, luck , and stars. However, the most important reason for our failure or success is our beliefs and thoughts. It is the invisible power of beliefs that drives our lives. They are buried at some level of the mind, constantly sending out the message.
Much of the violent or crazy behavior in the world is associated with a deeply held belief. The problem becomes threatening when people get trapped in their beliefs and don't review them from time to time. So if you are not happy or satisfied in life and you feel lost, or confused, then you are advised to check your belief system. Because it is the belief system that create s perceptions, emotions, values, habits and reactions to stimuli. You should be very honest with yourself while analyzing. If you feel that something isn't quite right, and if it stays that way for a long period of time, then certainly seek out professional help.
Your core beliefs do not remain isolated. They tend to interact with each other. A change in one belief will affect the system as a whole. If it is a core belief, it can lead to the change of the system. If a set of beliefs changes, other parts of the system will have to rearrange themselves in order to rebuild the coherence of the system.
Belief systems have the power to dictate the direction of our lives. It is scientifically proven that when we change our beliefs, we send totally different messages to our cells and reprogram their expression. You can reprogram your pessimistic cells to be more optimistic by adopting positive thinking practices, like mindfulness and gratitude, for long results. So our belief system has to be changed in order to change the course of our life.
28. What is the crucial reason for our failure or success
A. Fate. B. Luck. C. Stars. D. Opinions.
29. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A. How to review our thoughts.
B. How to rid the world of violence.
C. How to rebuild our belief systems.
D. How to deal with the negative beliefs.
30. What does the underlined word "dictate" in Paragraph 4 mean
A. Dominate. B. Clear. C. Provide. D. Follow.
31. Which of the following may the author agree with
A. Beliefs are the seeds of life.
B. Our belief systems are independent.
C. Beliefs can accelerate the renewal of cells.
D. Positive beliefs are the only key to success.
D
Paul Nelson runs a raspberry farm in the northern U. S. state of Minnesota. Raspberries are a popular red fruit that people like to eat in the summer. However, at the farm, Nelson and his team spend a lot of time worrying about fruit flies.
The flies cause damage by laying eggs in the fruit. Nelson said the flies can ruin fruit farms if farmers are not willing to put the time in to fight them. Farmers use chemicals to kill the flies or place covers over the fruit plants to protect them. It is a lot of work, and even with the hard work, they lose 20 to 30 percent of their crop each year.
Researchers at North Carolina State University are working to solve the problem. In the laboratory, they are changing the DNA of female flies to make sure that any babies they have are not able to reproduce. The scientists published their work recently in a publication called the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. They found that if they mated one of their flies with a normal fly, 99 percent of the later generations would not be able to reproduce. The scientists used computer models to make predictions and found that by releasing modified(改良的) flies over time, they could reduce the population of fruit flies in an area like a farm in only five months.
It is not the first time that scientists have considered modifying the DNA of an insect. Scientists are using genetically modified mosquitoes to reduce the population of the insects that cause diseases such as yellow fever, dengue and Zika. The use of gene modification technology has not been used as often in agriculture because it is easier to use pesticides (杀虫剂). Max Scott, a professor who worked on the study, said past methods for releasing genetically modified insects would be costly for farmers if they were used. However, his group is studying a new method which can reduce the population of fruit flies so fast that it would not cost so much.
32. What can we learn about fruit flies from the second paragraph
A. Crop is deeply affected by them.
B. Chemicals can kill them completely.
C. They inspire farmers to work harder.
D. Farmers are not willing to fight them.
33. How do researchers at North Carolina State University solve the problem
A. By killing the fruit flies directly.
B. By mating fruit flies with mosquitoes.
C. By making the baby flies unable to reproduce.
D. By releasing more enemies of the fruit flies.
34. Why does the author mention "genetically modified mosquitoes" in Paragraph 4
A. To explain a rule. B. To clarify a concept.
C. To make a prediction. D. To make a comparison.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Farmers' Worries about Fruit Flies causing Crop Loss
B. Ways to Change Fruit Fly Genes to Help Farmers
C. The Importance of Modifying the DNA of Fruit Flies
D. Genetically Modified Fruit Flies as a Solution to Farm Loss
If you constantly feel like you "never have anything to wear", you might be a victim of fast fashion. Constantly purchasing fast fashion clothes means clothes easily break down and lose their shape, causing you to consistently replace them. It's a challenge on your wallet, not to mention the environment. 36
Organize a clothing swap.
"One man's rubbish is another man's treasure." You might have an item in your closet(壁橱) that you've grown less fond of. Organizing a clothing change is one of the best ways to give clothing a second chance at fulfilling their destiny: being worn. Make a night of it! 37
Rent clothes.
Can you remember that wedding you went to three years ago 38 Renting clothes is one of the smartest approaches to sustainable fashion available to us today. It allows you to try new trends without taking up space in your closet or creating waste.
39
If you own more than 50 articles of clothing, you might forget about each item you own. Purchasing the same or similar items is a common problem with fast fashion victims. Go through your closet monthly or seasonally and take a mental record of what's in there so you do not risk item duplication(重复).
Invest in timeless pieces.
There is a common misunderstanding that sustainable fashion is expensive. In fact, those items save you money in the long run. 40 For example, if you buy a pair of good quality jeans that cost $ 150, and you wear them at least once a week for a year, divide $ 150 by 52 and the true cost of your jeans is actually around $ 2 per wear in an entire year.
A. Look for sustainable materials.
B. Go shopping in your own closet.
C. Does the dress you rent for the day fit you perfectly
D. There are some tips to help you handle the problem.
E. Get some tasty food and change clothes with your friends.
F. Is the dress you bought specifically for the big day never worn again
G. Divide the cost by the number of times you'll wear the item and that's its true cost.

I remember the park rangers saying, "Why are you going up there There is no water on the top, and you're not going to find any frogs." I said, "Well, I'm going to check it out."
The Espinhaco mountain range in the east of Brazil is a very special place, and it's mostly unknown. My house looks on to the mountain in Pico do Itambe state park, so I have my breakfast looking at it each morning. You're surrounded by thunderstorms and strong winds, and the humidity is high. I waited for heavy rains and went to climb to the top.
What had caught my eye were the bromeliad plants, which look like the top of a giant pineapple. Each plant can hold up to 2 litres of water, and inside there is so much happening. Larvae, beetles, all kinds of invertebrate(无脊椎动物) live in there—it's a whole ecosystem in a tiny space. The central cup holds loads of rainwater, and I thought there could be some frogs using them.
Sure enough I was right. And this led me to discover a new species of frog, which I have committed my life to protecting. That day, I found a frog in the very first bromeliad I looked inside. I thought, wow, I've never seen such a tiny frog; it was the size of my nail. I couldn't catch it—the plant was complicated inside.
I looked in the next bromeliad and there was another frog. They all had them in. I saw about 20 frogs that night, and caught three. I took them to the museum for identification, but couldn't find a match. I ended up walking around with three little frogs in my bag for a year, preserved in a jar. I would take them to meetings with me, and ask people if they had ever seen them before.

(What does the author think of Weiner's book );2023年全国乙卷第27题问作者觉得自己在 Devil's Lake 拍摄的照片怎么样(How does the author find his photos taken at Devil's Lake );2023年北京卷第24题问作者看到邮件发送人的名字时的感受如何(How did the author feel upon seeing the email sender's name );2023 年新课标Ⅰ卷第35题问作者对Navajas 的研究持什么态度(What is the author's attitude toward Navajas' studies ),2023年浙江 1月卷第25题问作者的父亲对带着罐子买食品杂货持什么态度(What was the attitude of the author's father toward buying groceries withjars )等等。
They saw a happy, young family, the waiter explained, and simply wanted to do something nice without us having to thank them.(第七段第三句)
While the Hole in the Wall dinner bill has been "paid forward" in full many times over in many ways, I have always felt the act itself has not been paid, a proper and worthy "thank you" not given.(最后一段最后一句)

①时态及人称:时态应以一般现在时为主,一般过去时和一般将来时为辅;人称应以第三人称(写作对象)为主;
②要点:介绍文物,包括其基本信息和其作为文物在历史上的价值意义;

One possible version
Paragraph 1:
Then I met an expert who took one look at them and said it was a new species. These frogs spend their entire lifecycle inside the plant: They lay their eggs, become tadpoles and do everything inside it. I decided to focus my research on this frog, and work to save it. I never thought I would spend my career learning about frogs, but it feels like an obligation to finish this work and make sure they are protected.(心理描写) I hope to inspire others to do the same—because by protecting one species I am protecting a whole habitat.
Paragraph 2:
During my research, part of the area where these frogs live was destroyed by fire. Fire from the surrounding communities reaches the top of the mountain really quickly, so we have to find ways to stop it. I spared no efforts to communicate with the government, hoping we can set new reserves for them. At the same time, I managed to raise money to recover the destroyed area and its ecosystem. I think it will be my legacy, protecting this little frog. Hopefully someone will take that over, because the work won't stop.
