If I had a cold, I wouldn’t think twice about telling my friends or my doctor. For some reason, however, mental (心理的) health is not treated in the same way.
At my primary school, mental health was not discussed even once as far as I can remember. This makes me wonder how many other schools are failing to educate their students on this topic. It makes me sad that children growing up with mental illness may feel like it is something to be ashamed of (对……感到羞耻的) because it is never discussed. When I reached high school, mental health was still seldom discussed. But when it was in the topic of health or biology class, I was given a broad idea that mental illness was a “thing” that really lies.
In my opinion, overstressed high school students could benefit (获益) greatly from more deep discussions about how to deal with mental health problems, such as how to know when you should care about yourself or a friend, or who to reach out for help. I know my friends and I could have (本可以) benefited. Even if you personally have never faced mental health problems, someone you know is sure to have, and you can offer timely help.
I believe we need to normalize (使……正常化) discussions about mental health at an early age, rather than hiding them from sight. At school, I saw a student’s report on mental health education and how it can be carried out in the American school system. The student used the film Inside Out (头脑特工队) to explain feelings to younger kids. This report made me believe that it is possible to start these discussions at a young age if we try.
Although we can’t change the way people think about mental health over one night, there are still things we can do. Asking our friends how they’re feeling is a good start.

Seahorses are small, thin fish. They’re called “seahorses” because they look a bit like horses. Although they’re fish, seahorses aren’t great swimmers. They often use their tail to hold onto something in the water. There are over 40 different kinds of seahorses. Many kinds of them are in danger.
On July 18,2023, Australian scientists released (释放) hundreds of baby White’s seahorses into the wild. White’s seahorses are mainly found near Sydney, Australia. In 2020, these seahorses were named the second most endangered kind of seahorse in the world. That’s partly because of pollution, and partly because many of the areas where they live, like seagrasses and coral reefs, have been lost.
To begin the project, scientists collected three pregnant (怀孕的) male seahorses in January. Those seahorses were brought back to the aquarium (水族馆) at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS).
After the babies were born, the scientists kept them at the aquarium for five months, feeding the baby seahorses tiny shrimp (small shellfish) to help them grow strong. Scientist Mitchell Brennan says, “They don’t have a stomach, so they have to eat continuously (连续地).”
About a month before the young seahorses were released, the scientists created eight underwater “hotels” for them, The hotels looked a little like cages, and provided a safe place for the seahorses to develop. Putting the hotels into the sea early allowed the cages to be covered with small sea life that could help provide food for the seahorses.
The scientists have released seahorses into the area five times, but this time was a record. Around 380 seahorses were released and about 90% of them survived. The researchers put tiny tags (标签) under the skin of
many of the seahorses to help track (追踪) them in the future.
The scientists are hoping that the young seahorses will grow and reproduce in large numbers. Brett Fenton, who works for SIMS. says. “It is highly expected that we’ll see the animals do well over the next 12 months.”

After joining the army, Hua Mulan and young men fought alongside one another. No one knew she was a girl. Everyone thought she was a brave soldier. After a few years, she was promoted to general (将军).
But soon after, a very bad fever broke out. Many soldiers fell ill. Mulan got sick, too. When the doctor came out of Mulan’s tent, he knew the truth.
“Our general is a girl ” some of the soldiers shouted. “We won’t fight alongside a girl!”
Others disagreed. “No, nonsense,” they said. “With our general, we win every time.” Just then, a herald (传令兵) appeared. “Everyone!” he called out. “Surprise attack!”
Mulan heard the news from inside her tent. She put her armor (盔甲) on at once and went outside. She was not quite in shape, but she stood straight and tall. She told the soldiers what to do.
Her plan worked. Rouran was beaten and ran back as far as they could. They gave up their attack on Wei, and the ten-year war was over. No one cared that she was a girl any more.

六、阅读与回答问题(本题共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)
请认真阅读下面短文, 并根据短文内容回答问题。
Paying for bus rides with plastic usually makes people think of plastic bus cards. But one Indonesian city has decided to accept plastic recyclable waste instead of money for city buses.
Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city, lying on the eastern end of the country’s main island Java, made this decision in April 2018. Now, locals can pay for their bus rides by putting plastic cups or bottles directly on the bus. A two-hour bus ride costs 10 plastic cups or 5 bottles.
Indonesia is the second largest ocean plastic polluter, producing up to 2.4 million tons of plastic waste into the oceans every year, according to a report. Only in Surabaya, nearly 400 tons of plastic waste is produced every day. The head of Surabaya’s transportation department (交通部门) said, “With this decision, we hope to raise public awareness about environment, especially people’s awareness about plastic waste.”
In Surabaya each city bus can collect up to 550 pounds of plastic bottles and cups every day. The collected
bottles are sold to recycling companies and the money earned from it goes toward running the bus companies and providing money for green spaces in the city. This is certainly turning rubbish into a national treasure.
The decision is part of the city’s purpose to become plastic waste-free. In order to encourage local people to take buses, the city also added new Surabaya buses. The new buses are air-conditioned, comfortable and easy for elderly and disabled passengers to get on and off.
The program is well received. People in Surabaya said, “We can reduce waste so it doesn’t pile up at home because we can just bring it in and make good use of it. It is a win-win situation.”
This type of program can be a model for other worldwide cities and encourage citizens to recycle their plastic waste.
