I met a beautiful soul yesterday. I went to work with my computer to a local cafe so that I could have dinner there. It was raining a bit this time and also I was among people. Sometimes when you work from home all day, this is in itself a treat. And the magic of connection sometimes happens — a smile, someone offering you the newspaper, a short conversation with the staff, a peace dove flying past and lots of possibilities for love and kindness.
Well, magic did happen. I heard a man who was speaking with difficulty and very loud. I noticed he could not speak so clearly and he had some kind of impairment (损伤). As often happened, people looked at him or avoided doing so and then as if embarrassed or afraid — looked down. In these cases I try to do the opposite. I imagined a person in these circumstances would want to feel included.
So I decided to deliberately look at him and smile. It was an instant! He looked at me, smiled and immediately said hello. With a combination of spoken and body language he asked if he could approach me. I agreed. He introduced me to his friend who taught sign language online and explained that they were both deaf, after which he even told me about his wife and how he loved teaching. I apologized for not knowing sign language and hoped I’d learnt. We still managed to have a beautiful conversation which made us all very happy. I’m sure we’ll meet again to experience the magic of being and being with others.
24.Why did the author go to the cafe yesterday
A.To work and eat something. B.To find someone beautiful.
C.To ask for a latest newspaper. D.To have a short talk with others.
25.How did the author react to the man with speaking difficulty

26.What’s the most important to a disabled person
A.Accepting help from people around. B.Being treated in a normal way.
C.Avoiding the embarrassments in life. D.Having a friend in the same situation.
27.What could be the best title for the text
A.A Special Cafe B.A Broken Heart
C.Magic at the Cafe D.Power of Sign Language

Imagine a world where you move around in front of a personal computer in your own sound space. You listen to your favorite songs, play loud computer games or watch a movie — all without other people hearing the sound and without headphones.
That is the possibility presented by “sound beaming”, a new technology from Noveto Systems, an Israeli company. On Friday, the company introduced a desktop device that sends sound directly to a listener without the need for headphones or a special receiver.
Noveto Systems gave The Associated Press (AP) a chance to test its SoundBeamer 1.0 before its introduction. The AP’s Louise Dixon writes that listening to the device is like something from a science fiction movie. The sound seems so close that it feels like it is inside your ears while also in front, above and behind them.
Noveto expects the device will have many uses. Office workers could listen to music or conference calls without others hearing. People could play a game, a movie or music without waking up others in the same room. Because the device does not use headphones, it is possible to hear other sounds in the room clearly.
The device uses a 3-D sensing module that finds and follows the ear position of the listener. It sends ultrasonic waves (超声波) to create sound pockets by the user’s ears. The 3-D method creates sound on all sides of the listener, therefore the listeners feel completely transported into the scene.
By changing a setting, the sound can follow a listener around when he moves his head. It is also possible to move out of the sound beam's path and hear nothing at all.
While the idea of sound beaming is not new, Noveto was the first to launch the technology.
According to the chief executive officer Christophe Ramstein, a “smaller” version of the device will be ready for release to consumers next year.
28.What does the underlined word “possibility” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A.The listener may hear sound only for him or her without using headphones.
B.The listener may put on music to block out other sounds.
C.The listener may enjoy songs or movies without being interrupted by others.
D.The listener may have the ability to pick up some special sounds.
29.What does Louise Dixon think of SoundBeamer 1.0
A.Strange. B.Impossible. C.Amazing. D.Meaningful.
30.How does SoundBeamer put sound in the listener's head
A.It places the listener on the scene to hear the sound.
B.With 3-D tracking technology, it sends ultrasonic waves to the target listener.
C.It follows the listeners around to send and receive sounds.
D.It fixes a sound beam’s path which can not be changed.
31.What is the purpose of the passage
A.To promote the SoundBeamer. B.To explain a technical phenomenon.
C.To recommend new headphones. D.To introduce a new sound device.
D
While most musicians work with other artists when creating their music, Holly Herndon, an American musician and sound artist who is now based in Berlin, takes a different way, working with the machine learning software called Spawn. The software uses artificial neural networks modeled after the structure of the human brain. These networks learn patterns from datasets during the training process. Based on the data, the networks create new material that includes Herndon’s own voice.
When producing her album, PROTO, Holly trained datasets to write new music. The process requires the input data of music written by people or by artificial intelligence (AI). The neural networks then produce variations of that music. “Computers surprise you in a way that an instrument doesn’t,” Holly said. So what does music sound like when composed by what is essentially a robot It sounds like music from the future!
But Holly Herndon isn’t the only one exploring AI in composition. Machines have played an increasingly important role in music over the last century. The godfather of computer science, Alan Turing, developed the first computer generated music in 1951. Then in 1980. David Cope from the University of California, Santa Cruz developed EMI — Experiments in Musical Intelligence, a system that analyzes existing music and produces new pieces based on it.
AI might not take over the job of the “pop star” anytime soon, or will it Miquela Sousa is a computer-generated artist with over one million followers on Instagram. “I’m a model and singer. And I’m a robot,” Miquela said. This then raises the question: Can we reproduce creativity using a computer
Though those questions are not easy to answer, I believe the next frontier of music lies somewhere in between. I can see the path forward with a new dawn of creativity that combines human inventiveness with AI. And the next chapter of music will certainly become wonderful as music and AI become even more closely connected.
32.What plays an important role in producing PROTO
A.Holly’s special voice. B.Holly’s rich knowledge.
C.The input of existing music. D.The use of an instrument.
33.Why does the author mention the example of Miquela Sousa
A.To make comparisons between human and robotic artists.
B.To show the popularity of smart robots.
C.To explain the tasks of computer-generated artists.
D.To promote deep thinking on AI musicians.
34.What is the author’s attitude towards music co- created by AI and humans
A.Doubtful. B.Confident. C.Confused. D.Surprised.
35.What does the text mainly talk about
A.The increasing diversity of AI music.
B.The combination of AI and musical composition.
C.The history of computer-generated music.
D.The development of musical composition.

We know that bullying happens a lot and that it can make people feel miserable. And school violence happens all the time.
36
Bullying is where a person or a group exercise control over another against their will, often leaving the victim feeling powerless and alone. Bullying can take many forms. Children, young people and adults can instigate bullying and be bullied in schools. Bullying is harmful to all involved, not just the person who is bullied, but to those who do the bullying and those who stand by. It can lead to self-doubt, lack of confidence, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, self-harm and sometimes even suicide. Children might bully because they may not have been taught that it is wrong to bully. 37 They are copying older brothers and sisters, friends or people they observe. They don’t know of more appropriate ways of mixing with their school friends.
How does bullying affect people
New research has found that more than half of young people in the UK have been bullied. Of those who have been bullied, 58 % said it made them want to miss school, 44 % said it made them avoid social events, and 37 % said it had affected their school work. 38 Racism is when people are treated badly because of their skin colour, culture or nationality. Around 32 % of students said that they had heard something racist at school.
What can I do to help
39 If someone you know is being bullied it is important to tell a teacher. You could also talk to your parents or an adult whom you trust. If the person doing the bullying is someone you know, you could talk to them and explain what they’re doing is wrong. It’s important to support the person being bullied. 40
A. What is cyberbullying
B. What is bullying
C. The study also found a big problem with racism.
D.There's no shame or harm in being different.
E. There are many things you can do to fight against bullying at school.
F. They may think that it is just a bit of fun.
G. You should tell them that they're not alone.

参考范文一
Dear Susan,
I’m glad to know you are interested in Spring Festival couplets. Now, let me introduce some
details of them to you.
As a symbol of Chinese traditional culture, Spring Festival couplets are always stuck on the door
or the wall of a house. They are necessities for Chinese people to celebrate the Spring Festival.
Written with a writing brush on red paper, Spring Festival couplets use some positive words
showing wishes for love, health, success, wealth, happiness and so on. They always have a theme,
and they represent a better life or successful future, and some of them include wishes and
expectations. Of course, the topic of singing the praises of our motherland is another good choice.
Hoping you can come to China to appreciate it yourself. I believe it will enable you to have a
better understanding of Chinese traditional culture.
Yours,
Li Hua
