The Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous landmarks (地标) in Australia. This summer holiday, I got the chance to visit it and find out what makes this building so great.
As our guide told us, the Sydney Opera House was built with a kind of self-cleaning material that is very rare even today.
First, we visited the Drama Hall. We learned about the designer of the Sydney Opera House—Danish architect(建筑师) Jorn Utzon. He was the winner of an international design competition. However, he designed the building according to his own tastes, which caused several problems. The project was completed 10 years late. The cost of construction(建造)was way over budget(预算). Utzon didn’t get to see it after it was built.
Then, we visited Joan Sutherland Theatre. The theater was refurbished (翻新) in 2017 with new high-tech equipment. There was a rehearsal(排练) that day, so we could hear the beautiful sound of the orchestra(管弦乐队). Finally, we arrived at the largest theater-Concert Hall. It has hosted many kinds of performances, from classical to rock music. A few years ago, a sports event was even held there.
Before we finished the tour, the guide told us the rest of Utzon’s story. In 1966, Utzon had an argument with the government and refused to give in. He had to leave the country. It was a hard time in his life. But many years later, people understood him and saw the building as a masterpiece.

I believe in the power of inspiration(激励). I like playing basketball. However, when I played in the boy’s club, I didn’t think I could do well in it. If somebody passed the ball to me, I would quickly pass the ball to another teammate. I dared (敢于) not shoot the ball myself. I was afraid that I would miss the shot and be laughed at by my teammates. I watched basketball games and felt the excitement of the players right after they made the shot. “Those feelings wouldn’t be the same,” I thought.
One day, I asked for some advice from my best friend about what team I should join. “Should I try out for
basketball or wrestling ” She asked, “Don’t you love basketball ” I sadly replied, “Yeah, but I was never good at it.” She looked at me with disbelief, “Yes, you are!” I looked at her skeptically, “Am I ” Then she said these words, “If I love something, I will keep doing what I love to do so that I can get better.” Her words inspired me.
I decided to join another club to play basketball. What my friend had said stood in my mind. My teammate passed the ball to me. I received the ball and took a shot. I made it. As soon as I made the shot, I felt the excitement of an NBA player. My successful play was unforgettable. I’ll never forget that day.

46.Dear fellow schoolmates:
It’s really my great honor to be here today and give you a speech. I’d like to give you some suggestions to help you do well in your junior high school.
First, it’s a good habit to make plans before you start your lessons. It will help you to make
full use of all your time. Besides, you should also keep proactive thinking to truly understand what you have learned. Second, you can also take part in some different clubs, and you should never miss after school activities to practice your living skills. Last but not the least, try to relax yourself in your leisure time. After all, health is wealth.
I hope everyone will have a meaningful life in junior high school.
Yours,
Li Hua
