阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
Four cinemas in the UK
The Kinema, Lincolnshire
It's a wooden building on the outside and a two-screen cinema on the inside, all nesting among pine trees in a tiny village. The Kinema showed its first film in 1922 and the first six rows were deekchairs(折叠帆布躺椅). Today, it's more richly decorated.
“People come here because it's a fantastic experience,” says manager philip Jones. “Many rooms in the Kinema are simple and not attractive, but we try to remain everything that makes it special. ”
The Cube, Bristol
It's not really a cinema. It is a not-for-profit cooperative run by volunteers, which has been operating for the last 15 years.
They are “unique for what we do, which is to operate seven nights a week and with no funding.” They make many things themselves, such as cola and yogurt.
The Broadway, Nottingham
A cinema has been here since the 1960s, when local fashion designer Paul Smith would come to see arty foreign films, which heavily influenced his career choice. Later, he designed the stripy(条纹的) sofas.
The Broadway was previously used as a church, but locals love it for its independent, art house, and DIY spirit. The Broadway also has a right-on restaurant, with locally sourced vegetables and salads, and even serves its own beer.
The Rex, Hertfordshire
It opened to the public in 1938 and has been named the most beautiful cinema in the UK. There's a varied programme with different films every night. Hot dogs and popcorn are banned. And a real person answers the phone when you call.
People speak very highly of the Rex. So do go, if only once, to see just how a cinema should be run.
21.In Philip Jones' opinion, the Kinema may attract people who ________.
A.live in the nearby villages
B.are fond of rich decorations
C.are interested in wooden structures
D.want to experience something special
22.The Cube and the Broadway are similar in the way that they both ________.

B.show arty foreign films
C.offer homemade drinks
D.use stripy sofas
23.Which of the following has the longest history
A.The Kinema. B.The Cube.

George Orwell is one of the UK's best-known 20th century authors but he's also claimed by Motihari, a town in north-eastern India, where Orwell spent the first year of his life, before he and his mother moved to Henley, England.
More than a century after the Orwells left, the shabby bungalow(平房) is being turned into a museum. The four families who have been living here are in the process of moving out. Among them is Aditya Abhishek. “That's something I share with George Orwell,” he tells me. “We were both born in the same house, but he became famous, and I didn't.” He is sad to go. “I have so many memories associated with this bungalow,” he says.
As very few people here understand English, it's perhaps no surprise that few know much about George Orwell. Motihari has no bookshop selling anything other than school and college textbooks. You cannot easily lay__your__hands__on any of Orwell's books here.
“Today, scholars have to travel to London for research on Orwell, but once the museum is developed, they can carry out their research at his birthplace,” says cloth merchant Debripya Mukherjee.
He and his friends are in touch with Orwell's son, Richard Blair, who may help them get copies of the huge collection of original manuscripts(手稿), pictures and so on held by the George Orwell Archive at University College London (UCL). The local government is planning to spend $150,000 on the project. “We're fortunate that a writer like George Orwell was born here,” says Mukherjee. “So, it's our duty to preserve this bungalow and make it presentable.”
24.Where did George Orwell live in India
A.Beside a museum.
B.In a town's bungalow.
C.In a bookshop.
D.Close to Henley.
25.We can infer that Aditya Abhishek ________.
A.has refused to leave the bungalow
B.has deep feelings about the bungalow
C.hasn't got used to life without George Orwell
D.has become famous because of his association with George Orwell
26.The underlined words “lay your hands on” in Paragraph 3 probably mean “________”.
A.publish B.share C.write D.obtain
27.According to the text, the museum ________.
A.has a hopeful future
B.is cooperating with UCL
C.is founded by Debripya Mukherjee
D.gets limited support from the local government

Some people say global English is no longer just controlled by British or American English, but is running free and developing unique (独一无二的) local forms. Can you figure out the following terms
“I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face.” This is a way of saying “Keep off the grass.” Or “people mountain, people sea”, which means “very crowded”.
These examples are what we call Chinglish. When it comes to Chinglish, if all you know is “good good study, day day up”, you will be considered “out man”.
Nowadays, more Chinglish words have been created, for example, a Chinese idiom is translated as “smilence”, a combination of the English words smile and silence.
Chinglish usually offers a humorous look at the misuse of the English language in Chinese street signs, products, and advertising. They are favored by some English-speaking tourists and visitors. Dominic Swire has been living in Beijing for a couple of years. He said, “I think many Chinese people complain about the Chinglish and badly translated English. But you know, sometimes for us foreigners, it's actually quite charming to see them. I think if the translations of English in China were all perfect, then something would be lost from the Chinese culture.”
However, Chinglish will probably become a “cultural relic”in the near future. Beijing has made a comprehensive plan to improve foreign language services and eliminate Chinglish within five years. “It is very ridiculous(可笑的) to see Chinglish on the signs in some scenic spots. And they are a kind of barriers for communication between Chinese and people from other countries,” a Beijinger said.
Some Chinese university experts side with Chinglish. They argue that English has absorbed elements from other languages such as French and Spanish in its growth, and now it's Chinese's turn.
28.What can we call Chinglish
A.The English words which get new Chinese meanings.
B.The Chinese words which are difficult to translate.
C.The words combining English vocabulary and Chinese grammar.
D.The local words preventing foreigners to learn Chinese well.
29.Who will be called “out man” according to the passage
A.A person who knows little about Chinglish words.
B.A student who hates learning foreign languages.
C.A tourist who fails to understand local translations.
D.An expert who doesn't support Chinglish at all.
30.What is Swire's attitude to Chinglish
A.It can show the humour of Chinese.
B.It will attract more foreign tourists.
C.It helps him to learn Chinese well.
D.It seems part of Chinese culture.
31.Chinglish is likely to become a “cultural relic” in Beijing because ________.
A.it has become a unique bridge between Chinese and English
B.Chinglish is a chance to enrich Chinese and English
C.it improves the understanding between Chinese and foreigners
D.Beijing is determined to get rid of Chinglish signs
D
In his younger days, Colombian pianist Oscar Garcia toured several continents playing Latin American music with popular bands. The experience was memorable. He stayed at luxury hotels, dined on delicious food and rubbed shoulders with star singers like Celia Cruz, Johny Ventura and Willie Chirino.
Yet the gig (演出) Carcia has enjoyed the most is the one he now does every morning—playing the piano at a public dining hall for senior citizens in Sweetwater.

Youth and Me
Congratulation on the 10th anniversary of Youth.
I have been a devoted reader since I subscribed to the newspaper. So attractive is it that I read each issue from cover to cover. It boasts a variety of columns, of which Chinese Culture is my favorite. The series of contents not only introduces abundant cultural knowledge but also values the inheritance of brilliant culture and strengthens our cultural confidence.
As a fan of Youth, I believe that it will be better if it carries some articles about the life of foreign teens and I hope that it will become even more popular.
