Many people enjoy going on holiday. It is a good chance to relax, visit new places and see new things. But you should decide who you want to travel with.
Travelling with your family can be very cheap or even free if your parents pay. But there are many arguments (争吵). For example, on our trip to Hawaii last year, we had different ideas. Dad always wants to go to a museum. Mom would like to stay in the hotel. My sister likes to shop for clothes. As for me, the coffee shop is the best place.
It would be fun to travel with friends. When you travel with friends, you have to do more different things than when you travel with your family. It is a good way to strengthen (加强) a friendship. You can get to know more about your friends. You can become closer to each other. But money is always important. You may have different budgets (预算). There are also a lot of compromises (让步) about what to eat and where to stay.
There’s the third choice about who you travel with. That’s travelling alone. If you travel alone, you might spend less money. You can choose what you want to do and eat. It’s easier for you to make new friends.
Of course, travelling alone is not always a good idea. Sometimes you might get bored. If you need to go to the toilet at the bus station or airport, there is nobody to look after your things.

Answer the following questions according to the passage (根据短文内容回答下列问题).
I was particularly impressed by the time there was a hailstorm when I was a child, and my family had an apple orchard. The income of a year is actually the income of the orchard. Apples were cheap, a few cents a catty. After receiving them every year, they should be covered with plastic paper to prevent freezing, waiting for customers to collect.
After the storm, all the apples fell to the ground. One was as big as a child’s fist, but it was too sour to eat. For the rural family at that time, it was almost a disaster, because the annual income of my grandparents was that orchard. At that time we were very uncomfortable, we were very worried, worried that grandma will not be a big blow, but the old woman appeared unusually calm.
Later, when I read Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, I saw the same spirit, I do not know whether it is blunt force (钝性创伤) or her inner strength, in short, she did not react particularly big.
She went to the orchard, after the hail, the hail turned a layer of mud, she knelt in the mud, picked up the apple, wiped off the mud with a rag, put it in a bag, loaded with 10 bags, ruined a lot, the countryside with a wooden frame car, pull back and eat, acid and acerbity, gave it to those who raise livestock in the village, to pigs, cattle and sheep to eat.
The rest were stuffed into jars, making many jars of apple cider vinegar, and that summer, every meal in our house was filled with the sweetness and clarity of apple cider vinegar.
Life is not desperate, desperate is the state of mind. That was the best lesson I ever had in my childhood about endurance and resilience. Until now, when I see my grandmother, I feel that she has a kind of pale power of language, which is about the first particularly profound education I got in my life in the family. Growth is a moment.

Have you heard about “Survival (生存) Holidays” “Survival Holidays” is for children to go into the lonely place for exciting activities.
Now about 1,100 companies are allowed to take children into the great outdoors without their parents. The reason why people like “Survival Holidays” is that they think being close to nature is good for children. Many children in big cities spend all time watching TV and playing computer games, but “Survival Holidays” can change them a lot.

Most of you may think of clams (河蚌) as part of a big meal. But these little things can do an important job: testing the cleanness of water, including people’s drinking water.
The main water station in Warsaw, Poland, offers water to millions of people there. It uses eight clams to help test the water every day, reported The Economist.
Clams are very sensitive (able to find very small changes quickly) to water pollution. If the water is not clean enough, the clams will close their shells (壳). People in the water station connect (连接) their shells to a computer system (系统). When four or more clams close their shells at the same time, the workers can get a tip from the
computer quickly.

Hi! I’m the Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway (铁路), I’ve felt happy recently because a new high-speed railway now links (连接) the two cities. Do you want to know my story
I was born in 1909. I’m 114 years old now. The one who made me was Zhan Tianyou. He was a brave and smart man. He believed China should build its own railways without other countries’ help. So he built me, China’s first self-built railway.
At first, my trains used steam (蒸汽) and they were very slow. Their top speed was only 35 km/h. Then, the trains started to use diesel (柴油). Later, there were even better trains which used electricity (电). But it still took more than three hours to travel from Beijing to Zhangjiakou Hebei.
In 2020, the new high-speed railway opened on Dec 30. I was so excited. It will help people travel more faster. The high-speed train has a top speed of 350 km/h! It only takes 47 minutes to travel from Beijing to Zhangjiakou.
During the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Beijing and Zhangjiakou, the two host cities of the event, welcomed lots of people from around the world.
I’m too old to keep working these days, but people will keep me as part of history. It’s a little sad. But I’m still proud (骄傲的) of all the changes China has made. Zhan Tianyou must be proud too.

Tim Burton is one of the most famous American film directors. His most popular films include: Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992)and Dumbo (2019). In 1990, he got a Daytime Emmy Award for his cartoon series Beetlejuice and in 1991 he got a Hugo Award for Edward Scissorhands.
Tim grew up watching horror films and cartoons. He read Edgar Allan Poe’s horror stories and he loved drawing. He also made short films in his back garden. After leaving school, Burton studied animation. Then, he got a job at Walt Disney Studios. He was a very good animator, but he didn’t draw in the Disney style. So he left Disney and started to make his own films.
One of his most successful films is Batman. At first, people were upset when Tim Burton chose the comedy actor Michael Keaton to play Batman. Batman is a superhero who is taller and stronger than ordinary men, and Michael Keaton was too short. At 1.75 m, he was in fact the shortest actor ever to play Batman. However, the film was very successful and everybody loved Michael Keaton as Batman.
One of Tim Burton’s most interesting characters is Edward Scissorhands. The idea for the character came from a drawing that Burton made in high school. Edward isn’t human and he has got scissors instead of hands. In the film, Johnny Depp plays Edward. However, his character in the film is not as scary as Tim Burton’s original drawing.
In one of his latest films, Dumbo, Dumbo the elephant has got bigger ears than the other elephants and they laugh at him. However, his big ears are an advantage. He can fly. This new film is more exciting than the old Disney film, but the CGI elephant is not as cute as the cartoon elephant in the 1941 film. There are some changes in the plot, but the new film is still as sad as the old one.
Tim Burton has directed many other films, including some of the best-loved children’s stories like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland. He still produces films today, and sometimes he shows some of his drawings and cartoons at exhibitions around the world.
