On Jan 25, 2014, Li Na became the first Asian player to win the Australian Open women’s singles (女单). At that time, 11-year-old Zheng Qinwen was watching in front of a television.
The same day 10 years later, Zheng made history by reaching the Australian Open women’s singles final, becoming the second Chinese female (女性的) tennis player to advance (晋级) to a Grand Slam (大满贯) singles final. On Jan 27, she came runner-up (亚军) in the event.
“Li Na is my idol (偶像). It’s she who helped shape my dream,” said Zheng. During the 2024 Australian Open, the two spoke in person for the first time, and Zheng credits (归功于) Li with offering some key advice. “She told me, Don’t think too much. Just go for it,” Zheng said to Xinhua.
These moments all made this decade-long “inheritance (传承)” even more special. Zheng and Li, both from Hubei, share a similar path (道路) in learning tennis. They had professional and international training from a young age, following international standards and setting clear goals, noted Xinhua.
The 21-year-old Zheng has proved herself to be a serious player since turning pro (职业选手) in 2020. Within just over two years of playing in WTA events, she has won tour championships and became the second Chinese player to enter the world’s top 10, said Xinhua.
Just as Li has lifted Chinese tennis to greater heights, Zheng also hopes to encourage the next generation (一代人). “I want to be an example for children, so that when they see me, they know that I am not only a good player, but also a good person, a young, fantastic role model who can inspire them to push ahead,” Zheng told CGTN.

Three years ago I moved back to America, but some wonderful memories (记忆) in China have always stayed with me which made me fall in love with Chinese culture.
One day, in one corner of a restaurant in Beijing, I saw a painted clay dog: green and blue, with large ears and a long tail. The dog was smiling at me all through dinner. Over the next few days, I kept thinking about it. I searched for information about the dog and finally knew where it was from—Fengxiang, Shaanxi Province. As the Chinese New Year holiday was coming up, my husband and I decided to go there to explore the clay culture.
We arrived at a tiny village in Fengxiang. There was only a street with a row of modest (朴素的) homes. We walked into the workrooms, where lots of clay animals sat on tables and waited for coats of paint. One of the workers explained that the objects were nisu, dating back to the Spring and Autumn period. They are decorative (装饰性的) objects and most of them often modeled on Chinese animal signs, with floral patterns (花卉图案) and bright colors. Locals make a living by selling them to visitors.
My husband and I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the village. We finally left with our arms full of clay animals.
5.What made the author unforgettable in the restaurant
6.Why did the author go to Fengxiang
7.How do people in Fengxiang make a living
8.Which traditional Chinese art form do you like best Give your reasons. Write 30 words or more.

Dear Mrs. Wu, I love video games and I develop my own games. It’s my favourite hobby. My parents were very encouraging at first. The day I started secondary school, they changed their mind. They now suggest that I give up video games altogether because study should be my priority (优先考虑的事项). What’s more, they don’t even allow me to go out with my friends at night. Every time they do that, I act like I don’t care. But in fact, I am quite angry and upset because they simply have no respect for me and my needs. What can I do Sincerely yours, Jason Dear Jason, You must be feeling very stressed these days. I’m glad you wrote to me for help. However, you should keep calm and talk to your parents about the benefits of your hobby. I can see why your parents are against video-gaming—it was seen as a useless pastime (娱乐活动) back in the time when your parents were young. The best idea may be to tell them that it is good training for new tech jobs like being a video game developer or drone photographer (无人机摄影师). Also, it is a good way to have a rest after a long school day. Try pointing out real-life examples to them to support your idea. Meanwhile, you should also make sure your hobby doesn’t get in the way of your school performance. As for your parents’ not allowing you to go out with your friends, it may be a good idea to open up to them about your private life. For example, you can get along well with them in school. This may help them change their mind. Meanwhile, show them you are a responsible person who understands their worries, and will not let them down. If you can do this, I don’t believe they will be so hard on you. Remember, you mustn’t lose your cool, as that would
be immature (不成熟的). Cheers! Mrs. Wu

An exhibition (展出) on the great Chinese ancient encyclopedia (百科全书) Yongle Dadian opened at the Lanzhou Museum in Gansu Province. It collected more than 7,000 kinds of ancient Chinese classics and records, covering literature (文学), art, history and geography from the pre-Qin period to the early Ming Dynasty.
With a total of 11,095 volumes (卷) and about 370 million words, the Yongle Dadian was regarded as “the largest encyclopedia in the world”. To protect this world-famous classic, Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty ordered a rerecording of it. The copying work took five years to finish. But hand-copied books have been gradually lost over the long period of history. Today, only over 400 volumes and a few pieces of the Yongle Dadian remain in the world.
The Chinese government promised to put greater efforts into digitizing (数字化) ancient books and encouraged libraries to open their collections for the public. This action certainly made the Chinese culture in ancient books “alive”.

But now, only three and a half copies remain. To bring them closer to the public, digitization efforts began in 2021 and are expected to be completed by 2024.

Natural disasters can hit anywhere, anytime, and being prepared is the key to staying safe. Earthquakes, typhoons (台风), and floods are common natural disasters that can cause terrible damage (破坏) and bring serious threats (威胁) to safety.
Earthquakes suddenly shake the ground, often without warning. To stay safe during an earthquake, people had better “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” until the shaking stops. You can find a strong table to hide under and hold on.
Typhoons, known as hurricanes or cyclones in other parts of the world, can lead to strong winds and too much rain. Before a typhoon arrives, storing necessary things like food, water, and batteries is important.
Floods can happen when rivers run over because of too much rain. To prepare well, avoid building homes in the areas where floods often happen and place important electrical appliances (电器) up off the ground in your home. Having an emergency plan is also a must.

What do you think of celebrating Christmas Day in China Christmas Day is very popular in China, especially for young people. Should Chinese people celebrate Christmas Day 60% people think that we should not take Christmas so seriously, 10% think everyone should celebrate Christmas.
Some people think celebrating Christmas Day can help them understand western culture better. Some people think it is a great holiday to have a good time with their families and friends. During Christmas Day, they can meet friends, go shopping, watch movies and go to different parties.
But I have different ideas. China has its own holidays, such as the Spring Festival, Double Ninth Festival and Mid-Autumn Day, so we don’t have to celebrate holidays from other countries. For years, it has been said that newspapers are dying. Every year brings more news of closing. But why is the situation so terrible for newspapers
Newspapers have a long history. The first newspaper was printed in the 1600s. Their most successful period is in the early 20th century.
With the appearance (出现) of radio and TV, however, newspaper circulation (发行量) began to fall. By the mid-20th century, radio and TV had become so popular that people no longer had to depend on newspapers for news.
Afternoon newspapers were the first to fall. After work, more and more people turned on TV instead of opening a newspaper. That was because TV could provide news that happened a short time ago. It’s true that newspapers couldn’t compete with TV on speed, but they could provide in-depth (深入详尽的) reports that TV news could not.
But newspapers suffered another heavier blow (打击) in the 1990s. With the appearance of the Internet, tons of information became free. Many newspaper readers realized that they could read news on the Internet.
So will newspapers die in the future Many newspapers are now making changes. Some are going digital. Some are going farther and taking the industry to places it has never been to. After all, people still want the news. If newspapers disappear completely, there will be nothing to take their place.
41.What made the newspaper circulation fall

It’s easy to see the fun in buying a huge ice cream or going shopping with friends, but saving money can be even more exciting. That’s because saving creates chances and opens the door to all kinds of adventures.
The key to successful saving is setting a goal. Get a pen and paper, and write down how much it costs, then work out how much you can afford to save each week and how long it will take you to reach your goal. It’s important to be realistic (现实的) because you’ll soon get bored if you plan to save every single penny. Some weeks you might decide to save a little more than planned so that you can reach your goals even faster.
To avoid accidentally spending your savings, it’s a good idea to keep them separate from the rest of your money. You could do this by using a money box or a savings account (账户).
When you save your money in a savings account, you have the chance to earn interest (利息). This is money that a bank pays you for leaving the money there. Some parents set up a savings account because they want to put some money away for their kids’ future.
Once you konw about saving, you can set some more bigger goals. Perhaps you want to start saving for university, or you’d like to travel the world when you finish school.
If you’re new to saving, start off by thinking of some fun goals, like taking a vacation or going to a concert. Every penny you save brings you one step close r to reaching your goal—and what could be more exciting than that
