Tune: Charm of a Maiden Singer
Title: Memories of the Past at the Red Cliff (Selected Verse)
Su Shi (1037-1101)
The endless river eastward flows (流淌);
With its huge waves are gone all those
Brave heroes of bygone years.
West of the ancient fortress (堡垒) appears
Red Cliff where General Zhou won his early fame
When the Three Kingdoms were in flame (火焰).
Rocks tower in the air and waves beat on the shore,
Rolling up a thousand heaps (堆) of snow.
To match the land so fair, how many heroes of yore
Had made great show! (Translated by Xu Yuanchong)
Analysis: Nostalgia (怀旧) is a common theme in Chinese poetry. This poem by Su Shi from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) is a classic example. Su used powerful language to describe scenery reflect on history and express feelings.
The poem was written after the innocent (无罪的) Su was set free from prison (监狱) and went to Huangzhou (now in Hubei province). One day, Su decided to visit the famous Red Cliff. Inspired by the historical Battle of the Red Cliff during the Three Kingdoms period (220-280), Su wrote this poem.
The poem opens with the scene of an “endless river”, standing for time. The words “Brave heroes of
bygone years” show the poet’s admiration for heroes who made a mark on history. He then takes General Zhou as an example. However, these heroes are gone with the river of time, this shows that he’s being a bit sarcastic (讽刺的) about the court (朝廷). It was a place where many “heroes” and truly talented people like Su didn’t get noticed. In the second part, Su expresses his love for the country, his frustration (沮丧) with his work, and his thoughts about life.

(2024·辽宁锦州·二模)“This yogurt might lead to diarrhea (腹泻),” said a staff member of a yogurt store as they gave a customer a cup of their store-made yogurt.
Marked as “500 billion (CFU) (菌落形成单位) probiotics (益生菌)”, the yogurt has become popular with people looking to improve their gastrointestinal (胃肠道的) health. CFU is used to measure the number of live bacteria in a probiotic product.
Usually, probiotics are good for people’s health. However, some customers shared their experiences of suffering from (遭受) diarrhea after having the “500 billion (CFU) probiotics” yogurt. Pu Fangfang, a doctor from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, said that the reasons for their poor health were varied.
“People may respond differently to probiotics,” said Pu. Former studies showed that certain kinds of probiotics may help treat both constipation (便秘) and diarrhea, depending on the person. However, what might sit well with you might not sit well with your friend. So, there are no fixed daily intake recommendations (推荐摄
入量) for probiotics.
Moreover, every cup of the “500 billion (CFU) probiotics” yogurt, according to the yogurt brand, has between 40.5 and 54 grams of dietary fiber (膳食纤维). This is much higher than the daily recommendation of between 25 and 30 grams from the China Nutrition Society. “Taking in so much dietary fiber in such a short time might lead to gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea,” said Pu.
Last but not least, everyone's body deal with food differently. Those with poor digestion (消化能力) or food allergies (过敏) should be careful with everything they eat, not just yogurt. “For people who want to try this kind of product, sharing a cup with others on your first try might be a good idea,” recommended Pu.

(2024·辽宁锦州·二模)US company Motorola created the first cellphone in 1973. The brick-sized phone could only make calls for 30 minutes. Today, we have 5G smartphones that look very different and can do a lot more. What will the future phones be like
Most foldable (可折叠的) phones today can only fold the screen up and down or left and right. But in the future, phones will be much more flexible (灵活的). In October 2023, Motorola put out a new phone. People can wear it like a bracelet(手环) and bend(弯曲) it into different shapes. Apple is also working on a way to make
foldable screens with fewer creases (折痕).
Not only will the phones become flexible, but they will also be able to fix themselves. Professor Zhenan Bao from Stanford University made an electronic skin (皮肤) that can fix itself with heat and magnets (磁). This skin acts like human skin, stretching(拉伸) without tearing (撕破). If it is used to make phones, the technology could lead to devices that could fix scratches (划痕) by themselves.
People will also power (充电) phones in ways that are different from now. For example, using solar energy (太阳能). In 2016, Kyocera Corporation from Japan and French company Sun Partner Technologies made a phone with solar panels (电池板) in the screen. It takes three minutes of sunlight to charge for one minute of talk time. But it still needs traditional batteries (电池). In the future, faster and independent solar charging could make solar-powered phones more popular.
13.What will the phones be like in the future
A.More expensive. B.More flexible. C.More dangerous. D.More useful.
14.On a cell phone, an electronic skin can ________.
A.control the heat of the cell phone B.protect the users' skin
C.make the screen stronger D.fix most problems with the cell phone
15.What might lead more people to use solar energy to charge their phones
A.Smaller solar panels. B.Cheaper solar panels.
C.Faster-charging solar panels. D.Longer-lasting solar panels.
16.What can be the best title for the passage
A.Correct ways to use the phones B.A successful company-Motorola
C.Telephoning future D.History of the phones
(2024·辽宁本溪·二模)Why are tennis balls best kept in a fridge It’s because. …
A.the balls get hot very quickly after being hit
B.a cooler temperature helps with the perfect bounce (弹性).
C. higher temperature causes the ball to become less round.
Which one do you choose Read the following and find out the answer.
Have you ever watched a big tennis game on TV and seen people taking out tennis balls from a fridge This is because temperature influences how the ball bounces. A tennis ball is filled with air. And this gives it pressure.
When it is hotter, the temperature inside the tennis ball gets higher, and the ball is bouncier. When it is colder, there is less pressure and less bounce. Also, a lower temperature stops air inside the ball from leaking out (漏气), said the website Tennis Hold. This means it will bounce for longer. Tennis ball companies say that the best temperature to store tennis balls is 20 ℃. This is the temperature of the fridges you can see at the tennis games. So don’t rush to put your tennis balls in your fridge at home. It’ll be too cold!
17.Tennis balls should be kept in fridges to keep them ________.
A.round B.bouncy C.hard D.cold
18.If the temperature goes high, ________.
A.the air will come into the ball B.the ball will become less bouncy
C.the air will leak out from the ball D.there will be less pressure in the ball
19.What is the best temperature to store tennis balls
A.-20 ℃ B.20 ℃ C.-30 ℃ D.30 ℃
20.From the text, we know ________.
A.we must keep a tennis ball in the fridge at home
B.big tennis games provide better quality tennis balls
C.the longer a ball stays in a fridge, the better it will work
D.a tennis ball shouldn’t be stored in a fridge at a low temperature
(2024·辽宁盘锦·二模)Do you like to travel alone Or do you think it’s better to travel with friends If you’re still deciding, please read on. I will explain the advantages of both ways.
One of the great things about traveling alone is that you make the rules about where you go and what you eat. You’ll be surprised at what you discover about yourself without any influence.
Traveling alone really shows you what you’re made of and helps you to discover inner strength (内心的力量) you didn’t know you had. Besides, it also gives you time to think, learn and grow. When your eyes are wide open, you’ll get a whole new outlook on the world.
It’s easy to think that traveling alone is lonely. Although that may sometimes be true, you’re hardly ever alone. When you travel in a one-person team, this can provide a chance for you to enjoy the most interesting part of travel—communicating with the locals and meeting travelers from all corners of the world.
In fact, traveling to know more about the world is not easy. There’s research to be done, flights to be booked and choices to be made, not to mention that things can—and often do—go wrong. One of the main
advantages of traveling with friends is being able to share these things and support each other through the process, even if it’s just someone who will wait with your bag when you go to the bathroom.
Just as your mother always says, it’s true that traveling with others can give you a sense of safety, especially if you’re new to travel. You know that if you get lost or have your wallet stolen, there’s someone to hold your hand when you try to explain your situation in a foreign police station.
There’s no right or wrong way to travel. Whether you travel alone or team up with friends, it depends on you.

(2024·辽宁葫芦岛·一模)A recent research shows that some animals are born with certain unusual abilities. The followings are the results.
A certain kind of ants lives in the open desert. They have nothing to guide them along the way. It’s like someone walking six kilometers through a dark forest. But these ants can go as far as 110 meters and bring food home because they can count their steps to avoid getting lost.
Bees can tell other bees how far away a flower is, in which direction, and what kind of flower it is. They do it by a dance that we would not be able to copy and follow. And it would be hard for us to give that kind
of information as exactly as bees do. But the meaning of the dance is still an enigma. No one gets the right answers.
Fish sleep with their eyes open. They seem to look ahead far into the sea while they rest. Parrotfish blow something from their mouths when they are ready to sleep. Then a bubble (气泡) will be formed around them. The bubble protects them from harm while they sleep.

Zong Qinghou was the founder (创始人) of Hangzhou Wahaha Group. He was born in 1945 in wartime China. He grew up very poor in Hangzhou and often went hungry. His father was out of work, and his mother supported the family of five children as a factory worker.
“Because of the hardship, as a child I had many dreams and hoped to make big money for my parents in return,” Zong said in a history book. As the eldest child, Zong left school after junior high to support his family and spent over ten years doing different jobs, including hard physical work at a far-away farm.
In 1978, Zong returned to Hangzhou and spent the next ten years working as a salesman. “My only dream at that time was to have my own company and do what I wanted to do, and I had been looking for such a chance,”
he said in the history book. The chance finally came in 1987. Zong borrowed 140,000 yuan to start his own company, selling ice pops and stationery to students at a nearby primary school.
The company, which would later become Wahaha, sold ice pops for a cent each. The company is privately owned. During his door-to-door sales, Zong learned that many children were picky (挑剔的) eaters and didn’t get all the necessary nutrition (营养). That was a big headache for parents.
Seeing a potential chance, Zong worked with a professor of nutrition to invent a vitamin drink for children, called Wahaha Oral Liquid.

(2024·辽宁·模拟预测)Science and technology will continue to develop. Nature and Business in 2023 have made their predictions. Let’s have a look.
Human-like friends Robots will be more like humans both in their looks and abilities. These robots will serve as greeters, waiters and companions of the elderly. Elon Musk’s company is working hard on making human-like robots that will work in our home. More AI systems will play roles in areas like health care and scientific research.
Protecting the earth One of the most difficult challenges the world faces today is reducing carbon emissions. This year we can expect more progress in green hydrogen, a new clean energy with near-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Scientists will also have a safer way to deal with nuclear waste. The used nuclear fuel will be buried 400 meters underground.
Space and beyond The images from the world’s largest and most powerful space telescope—the James Webb Space Telescope—have amazed the world. And the Euclid Space Telescope will be launched. It will take photos to create a 3D map of the universe. China will continue to build the Xinjiang Qitai Radio Telescope. It will be able to watch 75% of the stars in the sky at any given time.
Staying connected People will communicate more smoothly. In China, the Beidou Navigation Satellite System can now be directly connected to mobile phones. We can find where the phones are even when there’s no signal. A US company is also working on a direct connection between phones and satellites. The impact of 5G will continue to grow.

The first cause may be medical problems. If a person always feels hungry and can’t put on weight or even loses weight, he should go to the hospital. For people with Type I diabetes (糖尿病), their body isn’t able to process sugar (分解糖). They eat a lot, but still lose weight and they feel terrible.
If it isn’t a medical cause, the problem could be in the head. It’s reasonable to be hungry every three to five hours. However, you are likely to eat often and a lot after watching food advertisements on TV or social media. Also, the larger your stomach gets and the more you want to eat. A person’s state of mind can play a role, too. Research has shown that stress can increase levels of ghrelin (饥饿激素). Pressure and worry can send people looking into the fridge when they’re not truly hungry.
Another reason may be the lifestyle: Sometimes the reason why a person is always hungry is that he eats too little, exercises too much, or both.
So, what are the solutions First, reduce your time on watching food advertisements on TV and social media. In addition, say no to food if you’re not really hungry. Finally, change your diet by eating more food high in fiber (纤维), protein (蛋白质) and healthy fats.
