Here are some things that you can buy as gifts for your friends who are birdwatchers.
A window-mounted bird feeder
One way to guarantee a close-up look at the birds in your garden is to bring them all the way to the house. This bird feeder is solidly built with strong suction (吸) cups that you can tie to your windows, giving you a good view of your winged visitors.
A pair of binoculars
Binoculars are a birdwatcher’s best friend! They work like two small telescopes joined together, allowing you to use both eyes to see distant birds as if they were right in front of you. They’re perfect for spotting feathered friends in the wild, whether the birds are high up in the trees or soaring across the sky. When you peer through them, you get a view that makes every little detail of the birds — their colors, beaks, and even the texture of their feathers.
The Robin: A Biography by Stephen Moss
This beautifully illustrated book draws readers into the mysterious world of Britain’s favourite bird, the red robin — a familiar sight in all winter gardens, but as naturalist Stephen Moss demonstrates, one we hardly bining convincing storytelling with biological fact, Moss guides us through a year in the life of the robin, from the moment it hatches from its egg to its all too timely mortality (死亡) — the robin tends to live a me re 13 months , adding to its precious quality.
A reusable thermal bottle
Every good birding expedition needs a bottle of steaming hot tea. A reusable bottle decorated with lifelike drawings of classic British birds combines a natural aesthetic (美感) with practicality. It can keep not only hot drinks but also cold drinks.
21. What do we know about binoculars
A. They can attract birds to your house. B. They show images in black and white.
C. They can provide detailed views of birdwatching. D. They’re too heavy to carry for birdwatchers.
22. What does The Robin: A Biography tell us about
A. The lifetime of a bird. B. The death of a bird. C. The quantity of a bird. D. The birth of a bird.
23. What do the last two gifts have in common
A. They involve rare birds B. They attract users with pictures.
C. They are for practical use D. They spread bird knowledge
B
Travelling seemed like falsehood to me. I grew tired of backpackers expressing too much praise about how petting a baby elephant in Thailand “transformed” them. Globe-traveling to me held no more promise than finding a few bills in the pocket of an old coat. I needed something deeper than an Eat, Play, Love moment.
One day, Vasilis, my Greek best friend, reminded me of our decade-old promise: after our final exams, I would visit his hometown in Athens. Maybe, it was time to make good on that promise.
I finally boarded the plane. Vasilis picked me up at the airport. I smiled, thinking how improbable this moment seemed all those years ago.
The decade-long wait proved to be well worth it. Every step through the ancient streets revealed new wonders. However, none of them truly mattered. What would forever alter my perception of travel was a chance encounter with a local.
Vasilis and I were wandering Athens when a special sound caught our attention — a rhythmic clinking disturbing the quietness of the residential street. Curiously we followed the sound to a humble workshop. Inside, a welder (焊工) gave no mind to our presence behind him. He wore no flashy protective suit — this was just another day for him, another dance with fire and metal that had become second nature. Under the sunshade, his orange cat rested in the comforting warmth...
As the man continued welding, I felt a bit of envy. I envied his peace and contentment. I admired the simplicity he embodied. I imagined the welder happy, finding fulfillment in his craft (手艺) and returning to his loving family...The moment moved me to tears. Leaving the workshop, rain blending with tears, I realized how easily life’s poetry could pass unnoticed.
Home again in Montreal, I stop simply pursuing better things, better experiences and better people that are never grasped. I realize the real journey is inward — to appreciate life’s ordinary magic. That sure beats petting any baby elephant. I may not have returned home “transformed,” but I’ll always think of the welder and his cat.
24. Which aspect of travelling makes the author feel uneasy
A. Shortage of adequate funds. B. Discomfort in dietary habits.
C. Overstatement of travel’s effects. D. Danger of petting baby animals.
25. What drove the author to go to Athens
A. Meeting a commitment. B. Exploring a unique landscape.
C. Receiving further education. D. Escaping from the current life.
26. What does the underlined word “poetry” in paragraph 6 probably refer to
A. Poems written by masters. B. Peace and simplicity.
C. Spirit of craftsmanship. D. Special sound in the street.
27. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text
A. Friendship Lasts Forever B. Travelling Shapes a Better Self
C. Pursuit of Happiness Never Stops D. The Ordinary Makes Extraordinary

A traditional Chinese medicine has been shown to be effective at reducing complications following a heart attack after a large-scale, clinical trial. The medicine, known as tongxinluo, is made of extracts derived from seven herbs and various animals. The compound, whose name means “to open the network of the heart,” has long been used as a traditional Chinese treatment for patients who have had heart attacks and/or strokes(中风).Based on promising results in cellular(细胞的)and animal models, the State Food and Drug Administration of China approved its use for the treatment of stroke and angina pectoris—a heart condition characterized by reoccurring chest pain-in 1996.
The latest study, which has been published in JAMA, represents one of the first times that a traditional Chinese medicine has been tested in a large-scale, Western-style clinical trial.
The authors of the study, who include researchers from several Chinese universities and hospitals, in collaboration with experts from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center-found that tongxinluo reduced the risk of heart attacks (known as myocardial infarctions), deaths and other major cardiovascular complications for at least a year after a first heart attack.
Matthew Saybolt, a cardiologist with the Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center who was not involved in the latest study, told Newsweek that he found the latest research “compelling” after reviewing the paper. “I am not aware of any other large, well-run trials like this studying traditional Chinese medicine. This is a rarely run type of study, and I congratulate the authors for their work and publication in such a prestigious medical journal,” Saybolt said. The study involved 3,777 patients at 124 clinical centers in China who had suffered the most severe form of heart attack-known as ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, or STEMI.
Saybolt said he also observed some weaknesses in the way the study was conducted, one of which was that the participants were entirely Chinese citizens and predominantly male. “Thus the findings may not be generalizable throughout the world or to women,” he said. “Furthermore, the patients were less frequently-compared to the United States, for example-treated with traditional proven medicine after their myocardial infarctions. Therefore, the effect of the Chinese medicine may have been enlarged, by the lack of patient exposure to proven therapies.
Further research will be needed to address these matters, and the benefits shown in this study would need to be copied in other populations before the treatment could get approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration.
28.Why did the Chinese authority approve the use of tongxinluo
A. Because it is made of the essence from seven herbs and animals.
B. Because it has already been used in traditional Chinese medicine.
C. Because it has been published in Western-style journals and magazines.
D. Because it has had effective results in treating patients with heart attacks and strokes.
29.What was the limitation of the study
A. The authors have only worked with one university.
B. The research subjects are mainly Chinese male.
C. The American patients used the unproved medicine.
D. The expert Matthew Saybolt did not participate in the study.
30.What is Saybolt's attitude towards the study
A. Objective. B. Optimistic. C. Concerned. D. Doubtful.
31.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. Improvements of the study. B. Weaknesses of the study.
C. Results of the study. D. Benefits of the study.
D
We live in the age of the short attention span. And yet: Finding a recipe in a post requires first scrolling past a “novel” detailing the chef’s personal experience with the dish. Even platforms once known for short-form media are stretching the limits: YouTube videos once were within 10 minutes; now they can and do reach 12 hours. Even TikTok is going long, reportedly testing a new limit of up to 15 minutes for some creators.
Surely some of this is born of genuine audience interest. Length, after all, is sometimes associated with quality. Sometimes, storytelling deserves a surprising length. Other times, it does not. Online media are frequently lengthened not because the subject demands it but because creators are attempting to game algorithms (算法) to make more money. Algorithms, on the most basic level, are supposed to recommend whatever else people post online. Yet in the process, they end up encouraging people to generate a lot of junk.
Some of these apps seem to realize what they’ve done. TikTok and YouTube give users the ability to speed things up. But the solution only underscores the problem. Because it gives rise to all those ads that run before videos or between paragraphs. Any extra real estate for these ads, be it space on a page or time on a podcast, is a chance for platforms to make more money.
Some algorithms may in fact prioritize length as an indicator of quality. But it’s hard to say for sure, because tech companies tend not to give many details about their inner workings. In some ways, whether an algorithm prefers longer videos matters less than whether creators think an algorithm does. If people start believing that longer videos do “better”, they’ll make more of them.
People are afraid that generative AI will pollute the Internet. But social-media and search algorithms have been doing that for years. It’s even cheaper and easier for generative AI to produce long content. All of this is just a taste of what’s to come.
32. How does the author introduce the topic
A. By telling stories. B. By referring to studies.
C. By giving examples. D. By offering personal experience.
33. Why do the online media creators often lengthen their content
A. To enhance their storytelling abilities. B. To take advantage of algorithms for profit.
C. To gather data concerning popular subjects. D. To provide the audience with interesting ideas.
34. What does the underlined word “underscores” mean in paragraph 3
A. Highlights. B. Upgrades. C. Overlooks. D. Forecasts.
35. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A. Algorithms are sure to pick out longer videos.
B. The development of AI will facilitate longer content.
C. The best content is lengthened by video producers.
D. Search algorithms are easily polluted and destroyed.

When I was a kid, I took traveling with my parents for granted. Sure, they paid for everything. But they were basically no different from teachers taking us to a field trip. 36 .For example, they took us to Denali National Park instead of Disney World. Meanwhile, my mom and I have stayed at a $9/night treehouse hostel in Mexico, eaten at a Michelin-starred vegetarian restaurant in Vienna, and most recently, road-tripped through three states.
38 . After all, even if you're the apple that fell right under the tree, traveling with the people who raised you isn't always easy.“ 39 ,”says Alexis Sherry, a New Jersey-based travel agent. Still, Sherry is seeing an increasing number of clients requesting vacations for more than one generation. They can be difficult to plan, but so far she says she's had no “disasters,” and often, her clients come back closer than ever.
“Our parents are our earliest attachment bonds,” says Katie d' Autremont, a licensed professional adviser based in Bozeman, Montana. “It can be healing and fun to rekindle that bond in our adult years and as our adult selves.” She sees traveling together as the perfect opportunity for getting to know each other for who we are now, with “now” being the key word. 40 .
A. Those memories are golden
B. I know they're no longer unbeatable
C. After all, as humans, we're always evolving

Have you ever been so depressed that you can’t sleep You also can’t eat. You can’t read. You have no friends to call up and nothing is good on TV. So, you sigh, press your face down harder into your pillow, and shed a few tears.
This was my life two years ago. I had just turned 14 but already found life a struggle. As I lay in my bed one Saturday, Mom peeked (瞄) into my room to make her regular “Is Emily still alive” check. I knew that if I spent more time like this, she would begin dusting me. After suggesting a few things for me to do that I immediately rejected, Mom made her move, “Emily! Get dressed! I’m taking the dog out for a walk, and you’re coming with me!” “Why ” I protested. “Because it’ll make you feel better.”
The thought of moving was unbearable. I felt as if all of my body parts were weighed down by tons of bricks. I couldn’t remember the last time I had gone outside. Somehow, I found the strength to slip on a pair of jeans and a black sweatshirt. Mom was waiting at the door, leash (狗绳) in hand and dog at her side.
Then, we stepped outside. It was a warm March Day and it had been a long time since the warmth of the sun had touched my cheeks. Mom led the dog and me down some dirt paths, through a big field and reached Halsey Pond. But the signs of spring had yet to appear and the scene was rather colorless throughout the entire journey.
“I’m tired! It’s boring, Mom! When can we go home ” “Not yet,” she’d say. Mom stopped to say hi to every jogger, dog walker, runner, and bicyclist who passed us. Sometimes she would get into a conversation. They would talk about weather, dogs, and all small talk topics. She seemed happy, and was literally glowing After walking for what seemed an age, Mom finally said it was time to go back.
When I got home, a new feeling seemed to be awakened.
A new Saturday found me asking Mom if I could take the dog out.

Hello, Jackson. It’s an honor to have my story published in this local newspaper. Thank your journal’s editor for allowing me to share my life experiences with the town where I grew up. (18) Although I’ve toured worldwide, participated in many dance competitions, and accepted various national TV interviews, nothing is as rewarding as presenting my story here, where my dreams began.
When I was a little girl, I accidentally discovered my love for dancing. However, fate(命运) had other plans. A blood disease left me with frequent illnesses and emotional ups and downs. And what’s worse, that made it difficult for me to move, let alone dance. It seemed my dream of dancing was broken. (19)
However, I refused to let this illness defeat me. I searched for lots of information and made plans to fight it. But it wasn’t until I met my coach that everything got better. I met him when I was only 14 years old, and I became a professional dancer two years later. With his guidance, I successfully realized my dream as an excellent dancer. (20) Therefore, I believe we can all change our lives by making efforts.

和A reusable thermal bottle部分中“Every good birding expedition needs a bottle of steaming hot tea. A reusable bottle decorated with lifelike drawings of classic British birds combines a natural aesthetic (美感) with practicality. It can keep not only hot drinks but also cold drinks.
B
C 5. A 6. B 7. D
由文章第一段中“Travelling seemed like falsehood to me. I grew tired of backpackers expressing too much praise about how petting a baby elephant in Thailand “transformed” them.(对我来说,旅行似乎是骗人的。我已经厌倦了背包客们对在泰国抚摸小象如何“改变”了他们的赞不绝口。)”可知,旅行影响的过度陈述让作者感到不安,觉得是骗人的。故选C。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。由文章第二段中“One day, Vasilis, my Greek best friend, reminded me of our decade-old promise: after our final exams, I would visit his hometown in Athens. Maybe, it was time to make good on that promise.(有一天,我最好的希腊朋友瓦西里斯让我想起了我们十年前的约定:期末考试结束后,我要去他的家乡雅典。也许,是时候兑现这个承诺了。)”可知,为了兑现履行承诺,作者去了雅典。故选A。
由文章倒数第二段“As the man continued welding, I felt a bit of envy. I envied his peace and contentment. I admired the simplicity he embodied. I imagined the welder happy, finding fulfillment in his craft (手艺) and returning to his loving family...The moment moved me to tears. Leaving the workshop, rain blending with tears, I realized how easily life’s poetry could pass unnoticed.(当那个人继续焊接时,我感到有点嫉妒。
通读全文,尤其是由文章最后一段“Home again in Montreal, I stop simply pursuing better things, better experiences and better people that are never grasped. I realize the real journey is inward — to appreciate life’s ordinary magic. That sure beats petting any baby elephant. I may not have returned home “transformed,” but I’ll always think of the welder and his cat.(回到蒙特利尔的家,我不再简单地追求更好的事物、更好的经历和更好的人,而这些都是永远无法抓住的。
C
DBAA
D
C 33. B 34. A 35. B
根据第一段“We live in the age of the short attention span. And yet: Finding a recipe in a post requires first scrolling past a “novel” detailing the chef’s personal experience with the dish. Even platforms once known for short-form media are stretching the limits: YouTube videos once were within 10 minutes; now they can and do reach 12 hours. Even TikTok is going long, reportedly testing a new limit of up to 15 minutes for some creators.(我们生活在一个注意力持续时间短的时代。
根据第二段“Online media are frequently lengthened not because the subject demands it but because creators are attempting to game algorithms (算法) to make more money.(网络媒体经常被加长,不是因为主题需要,而是因为创作者试图通过玩弄算法来赚更多的钱)”可推知,网络媒体创作者经常加长他们的内容是为了利用算法牟利。
根据第三段“But the solution only underscores the problem. Because it gives rise to all those ads that run before videos or between paragraphs. Any extra real estate for these ads, be it space on a page or time on a podcast, is a chance for platforms to make more money.” 故选A。
根据第五段“It’s even cheaper and easier for generative AI to produce long content. All of this is just a taste of what’s to come.(生成AI制作长内容的成本更低,也更容易。所有这一切都只是对未来的一次尝试)”可推知,AI的发展会促使内容更长,是火上浇油。故选B。

When I got home, a new feeling seemed to be awakened. It was a long-lost surge of warm current, maybe fueled by the sun's radiant beams and the soothing breeze, or more exactly, fueled by my mom's vibrant conversations and her glowing presence. The following few weekends witnessed my presence with my mom walking our dog. Still colorless though the journey was, I never uttered a word of complaint. Instead, I started to enjoy the warmth of sunlight and the crispness of the air. Patience became my virtue as I waited for my mom until she finished her routine of having small talks with others. Each outing became a chance for me to absorb positive energy.
A new Saturday found me asking Mom if I could take the dog out. She responded with a knowing smile. Leash in hand, I embarked on my healing journey, But this time, as if by magic, everything was decorated with vibrant colors along the way, where the green buds and the pink blossoms danced before my eyes, enveloping me in their warmth like a comforting embrace. “Hi. Emily, nice to see you! Say hello to your mom!” greeted one jogger, “Hi, Emily, how are you "echoed another dog walker. Amid the vibrant spring scenery, I sensed my once-struggling depression faded away, and in its place came an impulse to embrace the newly sprouted hope and joy in my life.
