“Why do you want to be a teacher ” I never explain it without the usual obvious reasons, such as my love of children or wanting to make a difference. It was not until I me t Kathy that I truly knew the reason I wanted to be a teacher.
I was running a summer program. A seventh grader, a young girl walked through the door and I thought to myself, “This is going to be a long summer.” She was a student at my school, and I was well aware of who she was even though I was an eighth teacher. Her reserved place in the principal office was well known by the eight teachers as we prepared our sales for those students who were going to need extra attention.
I racked my brain (绞尽脑汁) trying to figure out what I was going to do with her. I usually had my older students act as classroom helpers for the younger grades, so I decided that this would be a good spot for her. Little did I know how that one little decision would change my life.
Kathy transformed before my eyes. She showed love and patience with the children in that classroom. She was responsible and caring and she began referring to those students as “her kids”. I witnessed a natural teacher blooming. I had an unforgettable summer with Kathy.
Soon the school year began and Kathy and I were together again. This time I was her teacher. Kathy continued to volunteer with “her kids” at my after-school program. Her smile was infectious and her sense of humor amazing. Before graduation, Kathy thanked every person there for believing in her and giving her a chance. She was truly grateful. There was not a dry eye on the scene.
We continued to keep in touch when Kathy went to high school and then university. Once she sent a letter to me, thanking me again, for giving her a chance and believing in her. She also stated that she had made her final decision and she was going to be a teacher! I don’t know I could have felt more pride than I did at that moment.

6-year-old Quinn Hill became her family's hero when she took immediate action during an emergency that saved her mother's life with the help of her neighbor, Mrs. Smith.
Jennifer, a 39-year-old single mother, began the day by sending her child, Hill, to school. Having no idea what would happen, Jennifer was filled with anxiety. After all, it was the first day of a new school year for Hill, a fresh start! On the way to school, she repeatedly reminded Hill to solve problems positively and fit in. Though worried, Jennifer had to wave goodbye to her daughter, watching her towards the school gate.
The whole day was packed with housework. Jennifer tidied the house, washed clothes, and prepared for the evening meal. As the school bell rang, signaling the end of the day, Jennifer picked Hill up from school. On seeing Jennifer, Hill couldn't wait to hug her, sharing the school experiences. Chatting and laughing accompanied them all the way. Hill's innocent laughter was like Jennifer's ray of sunshine
Approaching home, they encountered Mrs. Smith, a most kind and thoughtful housewife living in their neighborhood for many years. Mrs. Smith often invited Jennifer and Hill to her home and shared her homemade desserts and cookies. The two families developed a close relationship and Hill liked to stay with Mrs. Smith, who always brightened her days with willingness and timely help. After exchanging greetings, they went back to their own homes.
On arriving home, Jennifer set out to prepare dinner. As the sun began to set, the house was full of a pleasant smell of cooking food. Jennifer and Hill sat at the kitchen table when Jennifer suddenly had a chest pain. She was sitting in a chair, looking up at the ceiling and experiencing abnormal breathing. She then fell out of the chair onto her left side, her hands balled into fists, and her body was shaking violently. Her eyes were open, and Hill kept calling “Mommy, Mommy”, but she fainted and could not respond.

Even now, I can still recall the moment when my dream finally came true during my last year of school.
The dream of becoming a member of my school cabinet took shape when I was just seven. Those school leaders were my role models as they always gave instructions, conducted activities and represented us to give speeches on school issues. So, for the next few years, I tried so hard to make it a reality.
When I was twelve, I entered my name. I prepared my election speech and then, on the afternoon that we all gave our speeches. Everybody voted. I was hopeful and I prayed that I would win. The next morning, at the school assembly I waited anxiously for my name to be announced. I was all set to realize my dream.
One by one, the names were announced and the whole school cheered as the girls with the highest votes walked up to the stage. I closed my eyes and waited for my name to be called. The last name was read and my name wasn't among them. I was totally brokenhearted. My dream had been shattered, and I just wanted to cry my heart out.
Then the reality struck me: I hadn't had a chance to win. I wasn't well known and wasn't pretty. Girls across the school hardly knew me. I just did not have what it took to win a school election. I was so depressed because I had nurtured this dream for a long time.
As I cried in my room that evening, I suddenly decided I was going to stop seeing myself as a failure. I decided that I would stand for elections again in my final year at school-and I would win.
I recognized that my competitors had a lot of things in their favor. Their personalities were their biggest strength. However, I had good grades, and I was friendly and helpful. And my biggest strength was the faith I had in myself to be a good leader.

Ever since my Dad died, my life had changed. My Mom was always really busy with her work, and she didn’t spend any time with me anymore. I had to go to a daycare every day after school, eagerly waiting for Mom’s work to be done and picking me up. It was even a luxury to stay with her on Sunday.
One day, at dinner time, I begged Mom to take me to the fair on Sunday.
“Lilly, you know I have to work that day.” Mom refused immediately.
“But we never get to spend time together anymore! Can’t you take Sunday off ” I asked.
Mom placed a plate in front of me and kissed my head. I smiled and licked my lips as she had given me a piece of cherry pie. Then I looked into my Mom’s brown eyes and asked one last time, “Can’t you take Sunday off ”
Mom raised one eyebrow, staring at me. Maybe she didn’t want to make me disappointed and agreed that she would attempt to spare some time on Sunday.
It was Sunday morning, and I ran to see if Mom was awake. She was making pancakes in the kitchen with her work clothes on. Mom felt my disappointed staring and tried to explain. She bent down next to me and put her hand on my shoulder, “Sorry, Lilly! I have to go to work today.”
Tears streamed down my face as I yelled, “You never have time for me!” And I ran into my room and slammed the door.
As I was crying on my bed I could hear Mom talk on the phone. She asked her friend Charlie to come over and watch me. Half an hour later, Charlie arrived and Mom left. I heard him knock on my bedroom door and say, “Lilly, your Mom made pancakes. Do you want to come out and have some ”
“No!” I screamed.
“Your Mom told me why you felt upset, and she left a note for you.” Charlie muffled.

Several years later, I came across Kathy while shopping one afternoon. You can imagine her excitement about our encounter. On seeing me, she cried with delight as she always did and gave me a huge smile and bear hug. And my happiness was no less than hers. Later, we shared a dinner. Over the dinner, she caught me up on everything that happened to her. She was a school teacher like me in a local school, getting along well with her kids. We chatted on and on, enjoying a wonderful evening.
Now when I think about why I became a teacher I think of Kathy. She truly loved life and I felt so special to be once a part of her life. I have a picture we took together hanging in my classroom as a daily reminder of why I am there. Whenever there are students testing my patience, I think of Kathy and remember what a difference she made in my life. I wish every teacher a Kathy. I am truly honored and blessed to have her in my life.

One possible version:
That evening, I began my election plans a whole year in advance. The first target I wanted to achieve was to familiarize myself with the girls and obtain their recognition. I did everything I could to assist them whenever they were confronted with unpleasant situations. I also attended a course on effective public speaking and occupied myself with intense training on a daily basis. With time passing by, everything seemingly went to my advantage. When the election rolled around, I delivered the speech with more confidence than before.
The day after the election, every minute seemed like an hour while I waited for the results. The question haunted me whether my efforts would bear fruit. While the girls kept encouraging me, I felt anxious that my imperfect performance would cost me the opportunity to win the election. Then came the thrilling moment when the result was announced. Instantly the principal read my name, the students erupted into thunderous applause. It dawned on me that I accomplished more than I had dreamed of.

67. One possible version:
Hearing Charlie’s words, I jumped off my bed and opened the door. Charlie led me into the kitchen table where Mom left me a plate of pancakes and a note. I grabbed the note and read it. Mom told me she was really sorry for not taking me to the fair and that she would come back home earlier and have dinner with me. Satisfied, I looked up and smiled at Charlie and told him what the note said. Then I poured some maple syrup on my pancakes and gobbled them all up. I waited for hours and hours for Mom to come home that day.
Finally, the familiar sound of the car engine announced Mom’s returning. I rushed outside without delay, flying into Mum’s arms, and gave her a big hug. Mom grabbed me, embracing me so tightly that it was almost hard for me to breathe. “Mum, you’re always at work, and I’m tired of going to daycare every day after school.” Then I looked down and muttered, “Sometimes I think you like work more than me.” Mum shook her head firmly and said: “No! I Love you so much, Lilly!” I’ve decided to take weekends off, and tomorrow... I’m taking you to the fair.” “Really Mom, I Love you too, and you are the best Mom ever!”

Sally was very surprised. She passively accepted the umbrella and said, “Thank you!”. But the man had left before he could hear her. Sally could do nothing but watch the man’s back disappearing into the rain. Then Sally quickly got to the car park under the umbrella and found her car. Getting in her car and closing the door, Sally, breathlessly, looked in the mirror, beautifying her face and carefully styling her hair again. After everything was ready, Sally drove out of the car park and headed to her office.
“How can I return his umbrella ” Sally thought on the way. “He was so friendly and warm-hearted. How eagerly I would say thank you to him, but where is he ” The stormy rain almost came to an end now. Sally looked at the sky where she saw the sun behind the clouds, and amazingly, a colorful rainbow. So happy and excited to see the rainbow, Sally couldn’t help but smile and say, “Thank you, sir!” Across the town, the man, on the way to his company, also saw the rainbow in the sky. He smiled as well and said, “My pleasure.”
