2024年中考英语(阅读理解之记叙文)模拟真题速递(浙江专用)
(2024·浙江湖州·二模)It just hadn’t been a very good week. On Tuesday, Sam’s father lost his job. Then on Wednesday, Sam’s mother announced that the rent (房租) on their apartment was going up. Now it was Friday, and Sam received an invitation from Rosa to her birthday party.
Sam knew Rosa from Adventure (冒险) Club. He knew he would enjoy Rosa’s party, but he didn’t want to go without a gift. What could he possibly buy her with the little bit of money he had Sam knew he couldn’t ask Mom or Dad for any money—not this week!
Later that afternoon, Sam noticed a second-hand book sale going on. He went there and had a quick look. Two books caught his eye. The first was a cookbook of Puerto Rican foods, and the second was a book about woman explorers (探险家). “Rosa would like these,” Sam thought, “but would it be tacky (蹩脚的) to give her second-hand books for her birthday ”
Sam decided that a second-hand gift was better than no gift at all. Besides, Rosa supported recycling in that way. So, she would probably like it. With his last dollar, Sam bought the books and went home. He felt a little better.
The party was on Saturday. Rosa opened all her gifts and thanked everyone for the nice things they had given her. She paused (停顿) when she opened Sam’s gift, which made him wonder if she liked the books, but nothing was said.
When Sam got home, he opened his e-mail and found this note from Rosa.
Dear Sam,

How did you know I would love a book about woman explorers and a cookbook of Puerto Rican foods Now I have something to read that will inspire me to follow my dream of becoming an adventurer, and I have a book that I can share with my grandmother. ①American teenager Rain Price was waved off (挥手) to school from the bus stop outside his house, by his dad, every day for a whole school year. OK, so that doesn’t sound too bad, but this was no ordinary goodbye, because each day Rain’s dad did it while wearing a different fancy-dress costume.

Companies these days spend thousands of dollars on their computer security. They buy the best firewalls and computer programs. However, Kevin Mitnick thinks the biggest danger these days is not a weakness in technology.
In the 1990s, Kevin Mitnick was an infamous hacker (黑客). He hacked into government and corporate computer systems. After being punished and sent into prison, Mitnick decided to use his skills in a different way. He started his own computer security firm. He now advises people on how to keep their computers safe.
According to Mitnick, the biggest danger to security is people. However, by this he doesn’t mean hackers. In fact, he means the people using the programs. “If an attacker can get one trusting person to give his or her information, the attacker gets in. All that money spent is basically wasted.” A hacker can get around everything with just one person within the company.
Unfortunately, people are still too trusting. In a recent test of the US tax office (the IRS), security experts called 100 managers. They posed as IRS computer technicians. The experts were able to fool 35 of the managers. They gave both their passwords and IDs. In the hands of real hackers, this would have been a disaster!
17.What is the main idea of this reading
A.Managers need to be more careful about who they talk to.
B.Technology is not helpful if people aren’t careful.
C.Hackers can help us make our computers safe.
D.It’s really important to get the newest technology.

A.Experts. B.Technicians. C.Hackers. D.Managers.
20.What is Kevin Mitnick’s advice to us
A.Don’t give information to strangers. B.Buy the newest firewalls.
C.Test your computer systems often. D.Don’t put important information on computers.
(2024·浙江杭州·一模)“Welcome to our new ‘classroom’!” said Chen Dong, one of the three astronauts of the Shenzhou XIV mission.
They were giving a science class 400 kilometers above Earth on Oct 12, 2022. It was the third space class from the Tiangong space station, but the first one from the Wentian module. The first two classes were held in the Tianhe module.
What does the new “classroom” look like Chen, together with Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe, showed us around. “The beds in the Wentian module are kept upright,” said Liu. That means astronauts in the Wentian module need to sleep standing up! But as Liu explained, people don’t feel any difference because there’s no gravity (重力) in space.
The astronauts also showed their “space farm”, where lettuce, wheat, thale cress and rice are grown. “Take a picture!” “Send the picture!” Through a voice-controlled camera, Chen has already sent a picture of the thale cress to scientists on Earth. Then he used scissors to cut a sample (样本). “I’ll put it into a fridge at -80℃ and later give it to scientists on Earth,” said Chen. Scientists will study how the environment of space affects the growth of plants.
“Can you see the water drops coming from the leaves This is called ‘guttation’ (植物吐水).” said Liu, holding the well-grown rice. In space, the water drops are much bigger than those on Earth. So people can clearly see the guttation.

(2024·浙江杭州·一模)Soon after we arrived, the whole family sat down at the table for dinner. The farmer put me on the table, with some small pieces of bread and meat. I was very afraid of falling off the table. The farmer and his family were happy to watch me eating with my small knife and fork.
But when I started walking across the table to the farmer, his youngest son, a boy of about ten, picked me up by the legs. He held me so high in the air that my whole body was shaking. Luckily his father took me away at once, and angrily hit the boy hard on the head. But I remembered how bad children can be to small animals. So I decided to forgive him. I fell on my knees and asked them not to punish the child any more. They seemed to understand.
Just then I heard a noise behind me. It sounded like twelve machines running at the same. I turned my head and saw a huge cat, three times larger than one of our cows. The farmer’s wife held it in her arms, so that it could not jump at me. But in fact, because I showed no fear, there was no danger, and the cat even seemed a little afraid

(2024·浙江宁波·一模)Conner Wright is in his final year at university, but he still has many classes to attend. He is studying Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson—and how to wash clothes.
The young man is preparing for his post-college life. He realized it was not enough to know how to understand literature. So he signed up for a class on “adulting”. He has been learning many basic life skills.
There are now thousands of “adults in training”. Wright is only one of them. Not only college students but
many others are discovering they need help. Some middle schools have scheduled (预定) adulting classes.
But why don’t parents teach their children these life skills We interviewed many students. Their parents, they say, care a lot about test scores. Almost everything else is considered unimportant. As a result, colleges are filled with students with perfect test scores. Many of them, however, don’t know how to cook.
Sometimes, students come up with their own solutions. Neither Belle Lau nor Jenny Zhou felt fully prepared for life away from home when they arrived at their university. But by their second year there, they had learned to live on their own. The two noticed that many of their classmates had been experiencing similar difficulties. They decided to set up an adulting course. When it was first offered in 2018, its 30 spots (名额) were quickly filled up. 70 students had to be refused. The next year, there were more courses, but Lau and Zhou still had to turn down 100 students.
Lau says that she and Zhou don’t have all the answers for their students. That is in fact part of becoming an adult. As kids, we could wait for our parents to step in and take care of things for us. But after we become an adult, that's no longer available to us. When difficulties appear, we must depend on ourselves to “hunt for” a solution.
29.What is the adulting class that Conner Wright attended on
A.Improving test scores.
B.Solving common study problems.
C.Making foreign friends.
D.Developing necessary life skills.
30.Why do some parents pay less attention to teaching life skills
A.Because they are short of knowledge of life skills.
B.Because they expect schools to teach life skills.
C.Because they focus too much on test scores.
D.Because they believe life skills are unimportant.
31.How many students signed up for Lau and Zhou’s adulting course in 2018
A.30. B.70. C.100. D.130.
32.What can be the best title for the text
A.Away from Problems
B.Back to Basics
C.Off to College
D.Just for Friends
(23-24九年级下·浙江宁波·阶段练习)I spent a lot of time making a large shelf for my cave. I found a big tree and chopped it down. This took three days. Then, I chopped off the branches. This took another two days. After that, I chopped the wood away from one side, and then from the other side. This took more than one month. Altogether it took forty-two days. In England, two men with a good saw could have made six of these shelves from that tree in half a day.
I also spent a lot of time looking after my corn and rice crops. I had to protect them from wild animals and birds, so I made a fence around them. I shot some of the birds and hung them up near the corn. After that, all the other birds stayed away. I used one of the old swords I had taken from the ship to cut down the corn when it was ready. I was very proud of my corn and rice and worked hard to increase my crops. A few years later, I would have enough corn to make bread. I had to find a way to grind the corn into flour, but the rocks on the island were not hard enough. I finally discovered that a very hard piece of wood would do. I used some cloth to separate the meal from the husks. Not having an oven, I made some square pots with lids and covered them with hot ashes. This baked the dough, and I had bread! I made my cave bigger again to hold the corn and flour so that I could make bread whenever I needed to.
I sometimes wondered how I could get to the land which was visible from the other side of the island. I went to the ship’s boat that was blown onto the beach in the shipwreck. However, I could not get it to the water. It was too heavy. I tried many different ways of doing it, but none of them were successful.

(23-24九年级下·浙江宁波·阶段练习)Home from the Navy (海军), I started school at Greenville College in my hometown of Illinois. I’d been out of high school for four years, but my high school headmaster, Mr. Gardner, invited me to a Valentine’s Day dance party at school. The thought of seeing my former teachers was exciting. So I agreed.
When Friday came, I cleaned up, dressed up and drove to the high school gym. I chatted with my teachers and thanked Mr Gardner before leaving. Just then, the band started playing and a young girl stood up to sing. One look at and I was crazy—I had never seen such a beautiful girl!
I asked Mr. Gardner who she was, and he answered, “That’s Marilyn Riley, Cut Riley’s daughter. ” I was shocked to say the least. They lived just around the corner from me. I walked across the gym floor to introduce
myself, “Hi, I’m Jack Joseph. ”
“I know who you are, ” was her not-too-friendly response.
“Would you like to dance ” I asked. “No! I’m working, ” she shot back.
“Can I call you next week for a movie date ” I asked. “No, ” was her response.
For the next month I phoned, trying to set up a date. She always had the same answer: No. Then one rainy afternoon in March as I was driving home after basketball practice, I saw Marilyn, walking with no umbrella, no raincoat, no hat. Zhi Nong was born in a small town in Yunnan Province. When he was young, he moved to Kunming with his mother. Feeling like a caged bird in big city, he was bored with the busy and noisy city life and looked forward to nature.
His chance soon came. In 1983, he helped shoot a documentary about birds. That experience led him to learn photography and take photos of flying birds.
In the 1980s, the Internet was not that popular in China and cameras were expensive. He managed to borrow a camera and threw himself into studying how to use it. During that time, the library became his favorite place where he first read some magazines about nature. It opened a door for him to connect with nature.
In 1992, a research program was organized to protect a type of unusual monkeys which only lived in China. Usually the home of these monkeys has half a-year-long winters. It created great challenges for Zhi Non’s work, but he never drew back. “I didn’t see the monkeys in the wild until I went into the mountains the third time,” said Zhi Nong. When Oxford University Press (出版社) chose “rizz” as its 2023 Word of the Year, many people asked, “Rizz Is there such a word ” At the same time, many young English speakers laughed out loud “Jeepers, haven’t you ever heard of rizz ”
Rizz means the ability to attract a person. Are you good at making friends Do your classmates often laugh loudly at your jokes Then you probably have rizz. As in “to rizz up someone”, it means to attract someone. The word first appeared on social media as teen slang (俚语) and became popular after the Spider-Man actor Tom Holland said he had “no rizz.”
★ “Jeepers” is another. People use it to express shock. And the word “tea” is no longer just a “drink”. It also means “gossip (闲聊).” Similarly, here in China, words like “xianyanbao” have a new meaning. Teens are also saying “dazi” ( pal or friend ) and “qimengle” (What ).
These changes show that both English and Chinese are alive. A health language, researchers say, should always see new words being created, words being borrowed from other languages and old words taking on new meanings. The changes also show that young people have more influences on society.
When we look back on 2023, one thing stands out: artificial intelligence (puters have become cleverer than ever. Some AI systems (系统) have “rizzed up” many users with their ability to write long articles, create poems and draw pictures. But they can only use language. Can ChatGPT coin a slang word and make it popular Can it give a word new meanings Can it change how we humans speak and write
You should be proud of your ability to play with words. But while you try to create another slang word, remember to be polite. Also, don’t use slang in your compositions—it won’t “rizz up” your teachers!
56.The young English speakers laughed out loud to express their ________.
A.embarrassment B.happiness C.surprise D.pride
57.Which of the following can be put in ★
A.Have you ever heard of “jeepers” B.Rizz is not the only hot slang word.
C.Teens like using slang a lot. D.Maybe you know how to use rizz.
58.What made languages alive according to the writer
A.The change of society. B.The influence of researchers.
C.The development of AI. D.The creativity of young people.
59.What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards using slang
A.He can’t stand it. B.In general, he supports it.
C.He’s against it. D.He doesn’t care about it.
