Do you love learning foreign languages I love it so much that I like to learn a new language every two years, now working on my eighth one. As a successful language learner, people always ask me, “How do you speak so many languages like a polyglot ” They wanted to know why they are spending years trying to learn even one language, never making it.
To be honest, I really don’t know why. I’m curious to know what makes me speak several languages faster than other people. I decided to meet other people like me and find that out. I met Benny from Ireland, who told me that his way is to start speaking from day one. He learns a few phrases from a travel phrasebook and goes to meet native speakers and starts talking with them right away. He doesn’t mind making even 200 mistakes a day, because that’s how he learns, based on the practice.
I met some people who always start by learning sounds of the language, and others who always learn the 500 most used words of the language. And yet others who always start by reading about the grammar. As I was listening to these people telling me about their ways, it suddenly hit me that we simply found ways to enjoy the language learning. All of them use different ways, but they always make sure it is something that they personally enjoy. I realized that this is actually how I learn languages myself.

Have you ever heard of the Northward Family, a herd of Asian elephants that made their journey in Yunnan They were a bit naughty for they invaded villagers’ fields. Scientists who took part in scientific research and conservation have also used unmanned aerial vehicles (无人机) and other advanced means to carry out monitoring and early warning of the herd’s arrival. The government also made fences around villagers’ houses, which make effective protection of elephants from humans, making sure the safety of humans and elephants.
In addition, safety signs, warning signs and solar-powered street lights have been fixed along the roads where the herd may appear, to remind passers-by to be careful. The government has also set up a “canteen” for the elephants, providing them with food such as banana, corn and so on.
Is this amazing “migration” just a journey or a “survival revolution” in search of a new home A lot of friends who care about the Northward Family are wondering: Is elephants’ migration related to the destruction of their living environment Only time will tell.
What do humans think of the elephant’s journey On the one hand, it is no accident. We humans can help elephants by respecting their activities. It is within our power to respect science, follow the advice of experts, guide and urge our friends and children to keep their distance. If elephants really become our “neighbors”, how to deal with the “neighborly relations” will certainly become a problem we have to face.
On the other hand, the elephant’s journey has shown China’s achievements in protecting its natural environment and wildlife in recent decades. There is no doubt that the normal rotation of the earth cannot depend on the human species alone. The preservation of biodiversity is the “secret” of the earth’s ecological sustainability. When nature becomes something that animals and plants desire, humans will live a wonderful life too.

C. Their purpose was still unknown. D. Their living habitat was destroyed.
35. What can we learn from elephant’s journey

It was a week before Christmas. Despite all the encouraging words I had given myself, I was having a really hard time staying positive. In a few days I would be facing the wedding anniversary (纪念日) on December 23rd. I had always looked forward to this time of year.
I was wandering about in the street, looking for a gift for my husband. The clock read 4: 00p. m. I still didn't find anything satisfying. I decided to head to a neighboring town to find the perfect gift for my dear Joey. I made it into town and stopped by a few local shops, festive with holiday music and bright Christmas light. Shoppers hurried from one place to another, eagerly picking out the perfect gift for their loved ones. I left empty-handed but not completely discouraged. I still had two more stops and I was determined to find something before I headed home.
I wondered that the local trading post would have a few good “gifts.” I headed that way and arrived at 6: 04 p. m. The sign on the locked gate showed I had missed it by four minutes. I took a deep breath. The thought of having to go out another day and do this all over again was unbearable. I shook my head. It wouldn't come to that because my next stop was a huge, multi-level store where I knew I would find the perfect gift for my husband.
I arrived at the huge store and was surprised that the parking lot wasn't all that crowded. Great! I started walking toward the front door when I saw a lady coming out of the building. She was wearing the blue uniform, looking at me with that “look”.
You know, the “I know something you don't know look.” I recognized it and stopped. “Are they closed ” I asked her. “Yes ma’am. We close at 6: 00,” she pleasantly answered. My head fell forward and my feet were painful. I felt upset. This was a huge store. It was the holidays. How could they be closed I couldn't help crying in the parking lot.

The lady walked toward me and asked: “Are you ohey ”

根据空前“As we know, Shennongjia Forestry District was added to the United Nations World Heritage list on July 17, 2016. But there are so many important places not yet on this list.( 我们知道,神农架林区于2016年7月17日被列入联合国世界遗产名录。但是还有很多重要的地方还没有在这个名单上。)”可知,神农架林区被列入联合国世界遗产名录,结合下文中的“UNESCO awarded Shennongjia Forestry District this status because it meets two criteria required by the list.
可知,神农架被授予森林保护区称号的原因是它含有一个自然平衡环境,结合空后的“It is also one of the rare locations in the world where scientists can observe in real time the ecological and biological processes that occur as the plants and animals develop and evolve.(它也是世界上为数不多的科学家可以实时观察动植物发展和进化过程的生态和生物过程的地点之一。)”可知,此空处应进一步阐述被授予森林保护区称号的原因,B选项“It allows various species to live and prosper(它使各种物种得以生存和繁荣)”讲述的是神农架使各种物种的一生存和繁荣,与空前和空后内容衔接。故选B项。
【38题详解】
分析语篇,此空应为本段的主题句,结合空后的“Firstly, Shennongjia is apparently one of the most “complete” natural areas in the world. The region rises from about 400 meters to over 3, 000 meters above sea level, giving it the name the “Roof of Central China”. Secondly, it has incredible biodiversity.
根据空前的“It is a challenge to look after so many species in freezing cold winter. Scientists walked in heavy snow to supply food to the Golden Snub-nosed Monkey.(在寒冷的冬天照顾这么多的物种是一项挑战。科学家们在大雪中行走,为金丝猴提供食物。)”可知,本段的主题介绍的是在冬季照顾这么多物种是一种挑战,进而以照顾金丝猴为例做出解释,D选项“If they hadn’t made efforts to save these monkeys(如果他们没有努力拯救这些猴子)”讲述的内容与空前照顾猴子的事例吻合,且与空后的“the monkey’s population wouldn’t had doubled since the 1980s.(自20世纪80年代以来,猴子的数量不会翻倍。)”
根据本段的主题句“But the most impressive aspect of Shennongjia is the local people.(但神农架最令人印象深刻的是当地的人民)”可知,本段讲述的是神农架地区的当地人民是最令人印象深刻的,结合空后的“A local village is known for its home-made honey.(当地一个村庄以自制蜂蜜而闻名。)”

The lady walked toward me and asked: “Are you okey ” Now, if you are a woman and you have ever had a really bad day, you know what happens when someone asks if you are okey. You spill the beans about whatever it is that has got you down. And that’s exactly what I did. I told her I was looking for a perfect gift for my husband and I had spent the whole afternoon wandering without any results.
Hearing what I said, the lady thought of a good idea. She reappeared a minute later. She was excited as she told me the manager had agreed to open the store for me. She led me to the back of the store and showed me where I could find the perfect gift. I stood there looking at the huge empty space that was normally filled with hundreds of people and I knew this woman had already lit my day. I was grateful for what she had done for me.
