应用文写作:
Modern technology is changing our life
As the picture shows, many people enjoy playing with their mobile phones even when they are walking, riding a bike or driving a car. Such phenomenon deserves our attention.
Being addicted to playing with mobile phones is harmful to us. First, if we spend too much time on them, we are likely to ignore the people around us. As a matter of fact, many young people lack the communication skills to develop a pleasant relationship with others. Besides, it is dangerous to play with mobile phones while walking, riding or driving, which is a main cause of road accidents.
It is time to reflect on our behavior. The mobile phone is designed to help us communicate with others conveniently, not to spoil our life.
读后续写:
Robert was fast sinking. It seemed as if Robert would be drowned. Just at the moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry ran to the riverside, threw off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He reached Robert just as he was sinking the last time. By great effort, and with much danger to himself, he brought Robert to the shore.
Thus, Robert’s life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed at having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They said sorry to Henry for their rude behavior and asked for his forgiveness. Henry forgave them happily. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was: never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.

Text 10
W: A Dog’s Way Home is a family adventure movie. A young man named Lucas finds a puppy in a house where homeless cats and dogs live. The house’s owner wants to tear it down (拆掉). Lucas takes the puppy home and names her Bella. They become best friends. However, Bella is a pit bull (斗牛犬) and this kind of dog isn’t allowed to live in Denver. Lucas decides to send Bella to his girlfriend’s family, 400 miles away. Bella arrives at this new house but just wants to be with Lucas, so she runs away. After traveling 400 miles, Bella finally sees Lucas again.
I watched this movie with my 12-year-old son, David, my 10-year-old daughter, Melissa, and my sister, Michelle, on January 18, 2019. The kids seemed to love the movie very much. While we were watching the movie, I heard them laughing. And sometimes they looked worried. In one word, it’s a movie worth watching.曲阜一中阶段性检测题(2024.5月考)

When I was quite young, my family had a telephone. I would sit quietly and listen when my mother talked to it. I was surprised to discover that somewhere inside it lived a lady named “Information Please”.
One day my mother went out to visit a neighbor. I hit my head against the door while playing. It was painful, but I held back my tears because there was no one home to give sympathy (同情). Then, I noticed the telephone.
Quickly, I unhooked the receiver and held it to my ear. “Information Please,” I said into the mouthpiece. Then a clear voice spoke into my ear, “Information”. “I hurt my head,” I spoke into the phone. “Isn’t your mother home ” came the question. “Nobody’s at home but me,” I cried. “Can you open your icebox ” she asked. I said I could. “Then took out a piece of ice and hold it to your head,” said the voice.
After that, I called “Information Please” each time I met with a problem. When my pet canary (金丝雀) died, I called “Information Please” and told her the sad story. She comforted me, saying softly, “Paul, always remember there are other worlds to sing in.”
Later, we moved, but the memories of those conversations never really left. One day when I was alone, I dialed again and said, “Information, Please.” A different voice answered, “Information.” I asked for Sally. “Are you a friend ” he asked. “Yes, a very old friend. My name is Paul.” I answered. “Well, Sally left a message for you. Let me read it to you. It said, ‘Paul, always remember there are other worlds to sing in.’ I’m sorry to tell you that Sally has...” I stopped him and hung up, tears rolling down silently. I knew what Sally meant.

If you are given only 1 yuan, could you live in a city for one day It seems this may be a little difficult. But students from Xi’an did it.
On April 10, more than 60 students from the Middle School Attached to Northwestern Polytechnic University took part in the One Yuan Metropolis Survival. The charitable organization for teenagers called Imperceptible Education held this activity. Students not only have to live, but they also have to deal with a lot of hard tasks. It has happened in eight cities and is going to four others, including Beijing, in June.
To make money, many students looked for part-time jobs and saw how hard life was. Zhang Queue, 14, asked more than 10 restaurants for a job and finally got one chance. “We were sad when they said no. But gradually, we got used to it,” he said. After being a waiter for an hour, he got 25 yuan.
Some made use of their talents by singing and dancing in parks or shopping malls. Many people who walked by took notice and helped them. Zhao Jincheng, 14, drew pictures and made paper crafts (手工). “This showed it’s important to learn a special skill,” he said.
Living was hard, but finishing the tasks wasn’t any easier. They went to different places to finish tasks in a short time. The most amazing one was when they had to exchange things worth thousands yuan with only a piece of paper in half an hour. “We learned how to persuade others. From a balloon to a cake to a bottle of yogurt (酸乳) … after almost 20 tries, we got an expensive necklace,” he said. They will give all of the money they made to poor schools in Tibet.

Learning a second language is tough at any age. Now, in a new study, scientists have found out the exact age after which your chances of reaching fluency (流利) in a second language seem to plummet: 10.
The study, published in the journal Cognition, found that it’s “nearly impossible” for language learners to reach native-level (母语水平) fluency if they start learning a second language after age 10. “It turns out you’re still learning fast,” says study co-author Joshua Hartshorne. “It’s just that you run out of time, because your ability to learn starts dropping at around 17 or 18 years old.” People who start a few years after age 10 may still become quite good at a language, the authors say, but they are unlikely to become fluent.
Kids may be better than adults at learning new languages for many reasons. Children’s brains are more plastic than those of adults, meaning they’re better able to adapt and respond to new information. Kids may also be more willing to try new things than adults are. Their comparatively new understanding of their native language may also be advantageous.
These findings may seem discouraging, but it was inspiring for scientists to learn that the key period for fluent language learning might be longer than previously thought. Some scientists believed that the window begins to close shortly after birth, while others made it longer to very early pared with those judgments, age 17 or 18—when language learning ability starts to drop off — seems relatively old.
For this study, the researchers created an online test promising to guess people’s native language and home country based on their responses to English grammar questions. Almost 670,000 people took it, giving the researchers huge amounts of data from English speakers of many ages and backgrounds. Examining the responses and grammar mistakes allowed them to made unusually exact judgments about language learning.
32. What does the underlined word “plummet” in paragraph 1 mean
A. Drop sharply. B. Increase greatly.
C. Appear gradually. D. Double suddenly.
33. What can we learn from the study
A. Adults tend to perform badly in learning a second language.
B. Children are at an advantage in acquiring a new language.
C. All these new findings are quite discouraging for scientists.
D. People have different key periods for mastering a language.
34. What does the last paragraph mainly focus on
A. The purpose of the study. B. The findings of the study.
C. The subject of the study. D. The process of the study.
35. What’s the best title of the text
A. Kids Are Better at Learning New Languages
B. Adults Can’t Learn a Second Language Well
C. Never Say Die When Learning a New Language
D. Better to Learn a New Language Before Age 10
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
When kids tend to learn new skills, supervision (监督) is necessary to ensure kids stay safe. 36 Give kids chances to try something new, make mistakes and learn from them.
If your son wants to learn how to make a butter sandwich, show it, set up the materials and let him try. Will he make a mess Almost certainly. But be patient if he messes up. 37 If you step in, your boy will think, “well, I guess I can’t make sandwiches.”
But if you have patience for the mess and the time, the payoff will be real. Someday he’ll say, “I’m hungry, so I’m going to make my own sandwich.” Certainly, sometimes kids can give up. Help by encouraging them to do it one more time. 38
Once kids reach a goal, you can not only praise the result but also encourage them to try another. For example, after your son has mastered making the butter sandwich you might show your confidence by saying, “ 39 ” That’s not a huge achievement, but is a further step in the right direction—toward your child’s independence.
Throughout childhood, parents have chances to prepare kids to take care of themselves. It’s great to feel needed, but as kids gain confidence and independence, their relationship with you can be even richer. 40
A. Will you make a butter sandwich for me
B. Next time, why not learn how to fry an egg
C. It is a clear sign of your faith in his abilities.
D. In fact, it’s also important not to stay around.
E. Avoid any behavior that could discourage him.
F. Your kids will share pride in all they’ve achieved with you.
G. By trying again, kids learn that difficulties can be overcome.

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day Robert and Henry were going home from school, when, on turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let’s go and see!”
“No,” said Henry. “Let us go quietly home and not meddle with (插手) this quarrel (吵架). We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me. ”
“You are a coward (胆小鬼), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.
But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn’t want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn’t angry with Robert for his rude behavior, because he learned that true courage is shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn’t invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn’t go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled, and screamed (尖叫) for help, but all in vain. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did not even try to help him.
