(23-24高一下·江西宜春·月考卷)You might think people all over the United States have Wi Fi—wireless Internet service—and mobile phones. Jonah Bauserman is a technician. If he supposes there is a signal that is not allowed in the zone, he drives to the house where the signal is coming from and checks it. But once a week, when the device is cleaned, some banned devices are allowed near it.
People in the town respect the work of the scientists. (2022·海南·期中)Four Tips to Discover Your True Passion
True passion is the emotion, feeling, and desire that arises out of love for something. It’s the force that magnifies (放大) your capabilities for the benefit of excellent performance. This is because it’s a powerful motivation for best performance and everyone wants to get there. 8 Finding what you’re passionate about is a long road that requires effort and the following are some useful tips.
Search your childhood.
The purity and truth of your being are in the early stages of life. To that end, going back to the things you loved back then is always an excellent indication of marked preferences. Did you want to be a doctor 9 These are all clues that begin to point the way. While it’s true that children have several preferences in their early stages, it’s actually quite easy to figure out which they prioritize (优先考虑).
Experiment and discover.
Doing the same activities day after day closes any probabilities to succeed in finding your true passion. 10 This creates a trial-and-error scenario (设想) that promotes a positive outcome in less time.
Focus to find your true passion.
You must forget about the myth that doing what you’re passionate about will be easy and pleasant. This is because there’ll always be inconveniences in any activity you undertake. Beyond that, don’t lose focus on the fact that these are temporary moments. 11
Remember that your age doesn’t matter.
12 Encouraging yourself to take the first step can be difficult due to some of society’s obsolete (被淘汰的) barriers. The truth is that you must allow yourself to achieve and show your tastes leaving aside any obstacles, especially those that are self-imposed (自己强加的). It’s never too late!
A.Were you interested in insects
B.Take a variety of courses each month.
C.Do you know the meaning of passion
D.Age isn’t necessary to find out your true passion.
E.Be calm while finding out your motivation.
F.It’s vital to figure out what you’re passionate about.
G.Understanding this will make it easier to keep motivated.

(19-20高一上·湖南长沙·期末)A trip to Paris is not complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower. To get the most out of your visit read our tips below:
Visit at Night
Riding up the Eiffel Tower at night and looking out over the streets of Paris, you’ll see why Paris is known as the “City of Light”. At street level, the spotlights on the top of the Tower and the reflections (倒影) of the Tower in the Seine (塞纳河) are sights not to be missed.
Purchase (购买) Your Ticket in Advance Online
Avoid the long ticket lines at the Eiffel Tower by purchasing your ticket online from the Eiffel Tower website.
You’ll pick a time to visit and then select whether to print out the ticket or display it on your phone or iPad, a convenient choice if you buy your ticket in Paris without a printer.
Don’t Bring Valuable Objects with You
Before entering the Eiffel Tower, your bags will be examined by a security officer. If an item you are carrying sets off the metal detector, the officer will take you away from the line for further inspection. Probably you will miss the chance to go up the Eiffel Tower.

Joseph asks half of the questions, and Mike handles the other half. Joseph reads his questions again and again to get them in his brain well. It is a lot of work, but Joseph says it is “a lot more fun than homework”. Joseph has also learned to speak up and speak clearly. He has to listen and to go with the flow of the conversation. For example, he said, “If the guest is talking about sports in the 1990s, you have to think about sports in the 1990s.”
When asked how long he and his dad will continue doing the show, he answered, “Until my dad starts growing gray hairs.” Joseph has other ambitions when he grows up—to be a sports player, a sports broadcaster or to own a basketball team. Those are big dreams, but Joseph is already living a dream: talking sports and spending time with his dad.

(23-24高一下·河北石家庄·阶段练习)Much meaning can be conveyed clearly with our eyes, so it is often said that eyes can speak.
8 In a bus you may look at a stranger but not far too long. And if he sensed that you are staring at him, he may feel uncomfortable.
The same is true in our daily life. If you are stared at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. 9 Eyes do speak, right
Looking too long at someone may seem to be side and aggressive 10 If a man stares at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to look away from her, his intentions are obvious. He wishes to attract her attention, and let her know that he is admiring her.
However, when two persons are engaged in a conversation, the speaker will only look into the listener’s eyes from time to time to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking. 11 If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking as if trying to control you, you will feel awkward. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim. He wrongly believes that looking straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication. 12 Actually, eye contact should be made based on specific relationship and situation.
A. On the contrary, it will give him away.
B. Do you have such a kind of experience
C. That’s what normal eye contact is all about.
D. Actually, continuous eye contact is limited to lovers only.
E. After all, everybody likes to be stared at for quite a long time.

G. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel annoyed at being stared at that way.

(23-24高一上·广西崇左·期末)Paris, the capital of France, has some attractive bridges. These are four of the most beautiful bridges in Paris: some in iconic (标志性的) places you’ve seen in the movies, and others in quiet places that you’ll delight in discovering. Pont des Arts
Connecting the Louvre Museum to the Institute France, the Pont des Arts, first built by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804 and reconstructed in the 1970s, is a bridge only for people walking that is beloved by tourists and locals alike. In the spring and summer months, Parisians and visitors come here for lazy picnics overlooking the Seine. Pont Marle
This lovely but little-known bridge is a gateway between the Marais district on the right bank and a natural island on the Seine River. The current stone structure dates to around 1670, following a fire on its wooden structure that destroyed much of the original bridge and the houses that once stood on it. It has remained much the same since the 18th century, making it one of Paris’ oldest bridges. Pont Alexandre Ⅲ

First built in 1578 by King Henry Ⅲ, Pont Neuf has seen numerous reconstructions and changes over the centuries. But it conserves its Roman-inspired arch (拱形) structures. (23-24高一下·河北石家庄·阶段练习)I must have always known reading was very important because the first memories I had as a child dealt with books. There was not one night that I don’t remember mom reading me a storybook by my bedside. I was extremely inspired by the elegant way the words sounded.
I always wanted to know what my mom was reading. Hearing mom say “I can’t believe what’s printed in the newspaper this morning” made me want to grab it out of her hands and read it myself. I wanted to be like my mom and know all of the things she knew. So I carried around a book, and each night, just to be like her. I would pretend to be reading.
This is how everyone learned to read. We would start off with sentences, then paragraphs, and then stories. It seemed an unending journey, but even as a six-year-old girl I realized that knowing how to read could open many doors. When mom said “The C-A-N-D-Y is hidden on the top shelf”, I knew where the candy was. My progress in reading raised my curiosity, and I wanted to know everything. I often found myself telling my mom to drive more slowly, so that I could read all of the road signs we passed.
Most of my reading through primary, middle and high school was factual reading. I read for knowledge, and to make A’s on my tests. Occasionally, I would read a novel that was assigned, but I didn’t enjoy this type of reading. I liked facts, things that are concrete. I thought anything abstract left too much room for argument.
Yet, now that I’m growing and the world I once knew as being so simple is becoming more complex I find myself needing a way to escape. By opening a novel, I can leave behind my burdens and enter into a wonderful and mysterious world where I am now a new character. In these worlds I can become anyone. I don’t have to write down what happened or what technique the author was using when he or she wrote this. I just read to relax.
We’re taught to read because it’s necessary for much of human understanding. Reading is a vital part of my life. Reading satisfies my desire to keep learning. And I’ve found that the possibilities that lie within books are limitless.
4. Why did the author want to take the newspaper suddenly out of mom’s hands
A. She was dying to know what had happened.
B. She wanted mom to read the news to her.
C. She couldn’t wait to destroy the newspaper.
D. She couldn’t help but stop mom from reading.
5. What does the author’s reading of road signs show according to paragraph 3
A. Her special way to find a place.
B. Her eagerness to develop her reading ability.
C. Her effort to remind mom to respect traffic rules.
D. Her growing desire to know the world around her.
6. What does the author think of novel reading
A. A way to develop a love for learning. B. A way to create a mysterious land
C. A way to get away from a confusing world. D. A way to learn about the adult world.
7. What could be the best title for the passage
A. The Methods of Reading B. Growing Up with Reading
C. The Process of Reading D. Reading Makes a Full Man

(2024·全国·二模)Kristin Schell is the founder of The Turquoise Table, a movement of ordinary people who want to create community right in their own front yards. Ten years ago, she and her family moved to a new home in Austin, Texas.
One day, Kristin tried to connect with her new neighbors by hosting a party. She bought a few picnic tables but the delivery driver set one table down in her front yard by mistake. “After the party, I painted the table turquoise—my favorite color—and put it in the front yard, just a few feet from the sidewalk,” she says.
That turquoise table became the place where Kristin and her kids hung out. They played games, did crafts and ate snacks. “We got intentional about where we spent our time,” Kristin says. “We became ‘front yard people’.”
Neighbors began to stop by to introduce themselves and sit down for a chat. Kristin invited people to join her at the table for coffee or iced tea. Then neighbors asked Kristin if their family could put a picnic table in their front yard too. A movement was born. “It was a simple way to slow down and connect with others,” she says. The turquoise table was inviting and had a shared feel.
People often hesitate to invite others into their homes. They think their house is too messy, it’s not big enough or they don’t have enough time. “Our perfectionism can cause us to miss out on the joy of connecting with others,” Kristin says. Her picnic table takes away the excuses—and the pressure.
She likes how it enables her to take a small step toward easing loneliness and building relationships in her community. “People’s greatest need is to know that they are loved and that they belong,” she says.
A decade after their Texas beginnings, thousands of Turquoise Tables exist in all 50 states and in 13 countries around the world. Not all of them are actually turquoise. “No matter what color it is, it’s a friendship table,” Kristin says.
4. Why did Kristin Schell start the movement
A. To host more parties in her front yard. B. To entertain her friends and neighbors.
C. To engage with people in the neighbourhood. D. To create harmonious communities worldwide.

C. Generous and ambitious. D. Cautious and responsible.

(23-24高一下·河北张家口·阶段练习)Sometimes it’s easy to get overwhelmed (不知所措的) with parenting. We worry we aren’t doing enough for our children, so we give more. Then we worry we are doing too much, so we pull back. Then we stress out. So if you’re worried about being a better parent, worry no more. 8
●Have a “yes” day. So much of the relationship between a parent and a child is saying no. “Can I wear my shorts to school ” “No, it’s 30 degrees outside.” “Can I walk in the rain ” “No, we just blow-dried your hair.” As a parent, most of the time it’s easier to just say no. So for one day, say yes as much as possible. 9 Let your children know you are saying yes to have more fun with them today.
●Go on a nature walk. The fun part of a nature walk is that you get to do something completely different with your child—something you don’t get to do every day. Before you go out adventuring, get out a bird book, print off an insect guide and go on a long walk. Try and learn together and explore together. 10 Don’t rush and just enjoy your time together.
●Let them dress you up. For one day, let your child dress you up! 11 Let their imagination flow, and get into character once your children have picked your outfit. Then, take it one step further and go out to eat together. Don’t suggest in any way that you look unusual. Just enjoy it.
●Go through old pictures. There is nothing that makes someone feel more loved like going through old memories. Children love to hear stories about themselves. Take an hour, sit down and open up their baby book, a picture album or a Facebook album. Go through the pictures one by one and tell your child about that memory. 12
A. They will feel so special and loved.
B. Whatever they choose, just go along with it.
C. It’s great to join their world by hearing their music.
D. Make up stories about the birds you see as you walk.
E. Try and say yes to things you wouldn’t normally agree to.
F. Take some time to go on a date with each of your children.
G. Focus on these easy ways to connect with your child today.
