(19-20高二上·江西南昌·期中)I must have always known reading was very important because the first memories I have as a child deal with books. There was not one night that I don’t remember mom reading me a storybook by my bedside. I was extremely inspired by the wonderful way the words sounded.
I always wanted to know what my mom was reading. Hearing mom say, “I can’t believe what’s printed in the newspaper this morning,” made me want to grab it out of her hands and read it myself. I wanted to be like my mom and know all of the things she knew. So I carried around a book, and each night, just to be like her, I would pretend to be reading.
This is how everyone learned to read. We would start off with sentences, then paragraphs, and then stories. It seemed an unending journey, but even as a six-year-old girl I realized that knowing how to read could open many doors. When mom said, “The C-A-N-D-Y is hidden on the top shelf,” I knew where the candy was. My progress in reading raised my curiosity, and I wanted to know everything. I often found myself telling my mom to drive more slowly, so that I could read all of the road signs we passed.
Most of my reading through primary, middle and high school was factual reading. I read for knowledge, and to make A’s on my tests. Sometimes, I would read a novel that was assigned, but I didn’t enjoy this type of reading. I liked facts, things that are concrete. I thought anything abstract left too much room for argument.
Now that I’m growing and the world I once knew as being so simple is becoming more complex, I find myself needing a way to escape. By opening a novel, I can leave behind my burdens and enter into a wonderful and mysterious world where I am now a new character. In these worlds I can become anyone. I don’t have to write down what happened or what technique the author was using when he or she wrote this. I just read to relax.
We’re taught to read because it’s necessary for much of human understanding. Reading is an important part of my life. Reading satisfies my desire to keep learning. And I’ve found that the possibilities that lie within books are limitless.
4.Why did the author want to grab the newspaper out of mom’s hands?
A.She wanted mom to read the news to her.
B.She couldn’t wait to tear the newspaper apart.
C.She couldn’t help but stop mom from reading.
D.She was eager to know what had happened.

A.her own way to find herself
B.her eagerness to develop her reading ability
C.her growing desire to know the world around her
D.her effort to remind mom to obey traffic rules
6.The author takes novel reading as a way to___________.
A.explore a mysterious land
B.develop an interest in learning
C.get away from a confusing world
D.learn about the adult world
7.What could be the best title for the passage?
A.The Pleasure of Reading B.Growing Up with Reading

根据AVOID BIG EVENTS中关键句“Big sporting events, concerts and exhibitions can increase the cost of accommodation and make it harder to find a room. A standard double room at the Thistle Brighton on the final Friday of the Brighton Comedy Festival(19 Oct.)cost£169.15 at . A week later, the same room cost£118.15.(大型体育赛事、音乐会和展览会增加住宿成本,让人更难找到房间。布莱顿喜剧节最后一个星期五(10月19日),在上,布莱顿蓟酒店的标准双人房价格为169.15英镑。一周后,同样的房间价格为118.15英镑)”可知,文章提及布莱顿喜剧节是为了说明在大型活动时,旅行者会支付更多的住宿费用。故选D。
2. 细节理解题。根据LOOK AFTER YOURSELF中关键句“Really central hotels in cities such as London, Edinburgh and Cardiff can cost a fortune, especially at weekends and during big events. As an alternative consider checking into a self-catering flat with its own kitchen. Often these flats are hidden away on the top floors of city centre buildings. A great example is the historic O’Neill Flat on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, available for £420 for five days in late September, with room for four adults.(在伦敦、爱丁堡和卡迪夫这样的城市,真正的中心酒店可能要花一大笔钱,尤其是在周末和大型活动期间。你也可以考虑住一套带厨房的自助式公寓。这些公寓通常隐藏在市中心建筑物的顶层。一个很好的例子是爱丁堡皇家英里大道上历史悠久的奥尼尔公寓(O’neill Flat), 9月底的5天房租为420英镑,可容纳4名成人)”可知,奥尼尔公寓为游客提供烹饪设施。故选C。
3. 细节理解题。根据GET ON A BIKE中关键句“Among the smaller cities with their own programmes are Newcastle(casual members pay around £1.50 for two hours)and Cardiff(free for up to 30 minutes, or £5 per day).(一些较小的城市也有自己的项目,比如纽卡斯尔(临时会员两小时收费1.5英镑)和卡迪夫(30分钟免费,或者每天5英镑))”可知,Cardiff项目可以最多免费骑车半个小时。故选A。
4. C 5. D 6. A 7. A
根据第一段“We can probably all agree that it is good to be kind, nice to be kind, but does it lead to success in life After all, isn’t kindness about putting other people’s interests first Doesn’t it require self-sacrifice (我们可能都同意善良是件好事,善良很好,但它会导致生活中的成功吗?毕竟,善良不就是把别人的利益放在第一位吗?这难道不需要自我牺牲吗?)”可知,第一段的作用是引入话题。故选C。
5. 细节理解题。根据第二段“Yet consider these well-known people: James Timpson, boss of the Timpson chain of shoe repairers; Jacinda Ardern, the prime minister of New Zealand. These two are clearly “winners” in their fields, and yet both put kindness at the heart of their strategies for success. What they have found is that taking a more sympathetic and apparently “softer” approach to business, politics and sports management brings positive results, not just for the benefit of people who work for them, but for their own benefit.
根据第三段“There’s evidence that even small acts of kindness and cooperation by anyone can make a difference in a workplace. An example might be getting the printer mended, rather than leaving it broken for the next person to find, or watering the plants in the office. (有证据表明,即使是任何人的善意和合作的小举动也会在工作场所产生影响。一个例子可能是把打印机修好,而不是把坏了的打印机留给下一个人去发现,或者给办公室里的植物浇水。)”可知,在商业领域,如果方便的话,你应该让你的资深同事搭车。故选A。
根据第一段“We can probably all agree that it is good to be kind, nice to be kind, but does it lead to success in life After all, isn’t kindness about putting other people’s interests first Doesn’t it require self-sacrifice (我们可能都同意善良是件好事,善良是件好事,但它会导致生活中的成功吗?毕竟,善良不就是把别人的利益放在第一位吗?这难道不需要自我牺牲吗?)”以及最后一段“You can’t be a winner simply through being kind of course — you need motivation, devotion and skills too —but there’s more and more evidence that showing some kindness as you go after your goal is no barrier to success. (当然,你不可能仅仅通过善良就成为赢家——你还需要动力、奉献精神和技能——但越来越多的证据表明,在追求目标的过程中表现出一些善良并不是成功的障碍。)”结合文章主要论述了善良在某种程度上有助于成功,并且进行了举例说明。可知,A选项“善良对我们的生活有很大的影响。”最符合文章标题。故选A。

8. 根据上文“Some of us like to keep some things private-maybe we don’t want people to know about our relationship status, our age or where we live — because these details are personal.
9. 根据上文“On our social medial accounts, we often display things like our opinions, connections and holiday photos. The issue is, how do we stop everybody seeing everything Maybe we don't want a random stranger to know our favorite type of coffee. And cookies—there was a time they were just something nice to eat. (在我们的社交媒体账户上,我们经常展示自己的观点、人际关系和度假照片。问题是,我们如何阻止每个人看到所有的东西?也许我们不想让一个陌生人知道我们最喜欢的咖啡类型。还有饼干——曾经有一段时间它们只是好吃的东西。)”可知,人们不希望止每个人看到所有这些东西,不希望它们出现在网站上。故D选项“Now they seem to be popping up on websites (现在它们似乎出现在网站上)”能承接上文,符合题意。故选D。
10. 根据上文“There are some steps you can take. First, on your social media accounts, check your privacy settings. Many social media platforms allow everything to be visible by default, and the responsibility is on you to set your boundaries. (你可以采取一些措施。首先,在你的社交媒体账户上,检查你的隐私设置。许多社交媒体平台默认允许所有内容可见,你有责任设定自己的界限。)”和下文“There are many sites out there that help you to share documents —so a good tip may be to not put anything too private, like passwords, on there. One errant click may send it to the wrong person. (有很多网站可以帮助你分享文件,所以一个好的建议是不要在上面放任何过于隐私的东西,比如密码。一个错误的点击可能会把它发送给错误的人。)”可知,限制在网上的分享,有很多网站可以帮助你分享文件,所以限制你的分享量不仅限于社交媒体。故E选项“And limiting the amount you share isn’t only limited to social media (限制你的分享量不仅限于社交媒体)”能承上启下,符合题意。故选E。
11. 根据上文“Finally, cookies are designed to improve your browsing experience by tracking and saving information about your visits to a site, helping to personalize your sessions. (最后,cookies的设计是为了通过跟踪和保存您访问网站的信息来改善您的浏览体验,帮助个性化您的会话。但如果你觉得不舒服,有些应用程序可以屏蔽它们)”可知,上文提到了cookie的作用,且前半句提到了删除浏览记录,可知本句是在说明不想让cookie跟踪和保存网址信息的情况。结合下文“but there are certain apps which can block them if you don’t feel comfortable. (但如果你觉得不舒服,有些应用程序可以屏蔽它们。)”可知,C项“Deleting your browsing history may help (删除浏览记录可能会有所帮助)”衔接上文,说明了若想保护隐私,可以删除浏览记录,引出下文更直接的保护方法,即“有些应用程序可以屏蔽它们”,衔接恰当。故选C项。
12. 根据上文“So if you want to maintain your privacy online, maybe only share things you'd be happy with a stranger seeing—and if you don’t feel comfortable with cookies, you might decide to invest in some tech to block them. (因此,如果你想在网上保护自己的隐私,可能只分享你愿意让陌生人看到的东西——如果你对cookie感到不舒服,你可能会决定投资一些技术来屏蔽它们)”以及后文“just don’t accept them and visit another site (不要接受他们,访问其他地点)”可知,本句属于过渡句,指出上文的做法如果无效的话,可以采取访问其它地点的做法。故A选项“If that’s not enough (如果这还不够的话)”符合语境,故选A。

STAY AWAY FROM THE STATION If travelling to your destination by train, you may want to find a good base close to the station, but you could end up paying more for the sake of convenience at the start of your holiday.
Don’t be too choosy about the part of town you stay in. Booking two months in advance, the cheapest room at Travelodge’s Central Euston hotel in London for Saturday 22 September was£95.95. (23-24高一下·江西景德镇·期中)We can probably all agree that it is good to be kind, nice to be kind, but does it lead to success in life After all, isn’t kindness about putting other people’s interests first Doesn’t it require self-sacrifice
Yet consider these well-known people: James Timpson, boss of the Timpson chain of shoe repairers; Jacinda Ardern, the prime minister of New Zealand. These two are clearly “winners” in their fields, and yet both put kindness at the heart of their strategies for success. What they have found is that taking a more sympathetic and apparently “softer” approach to business, politics and sports management brings positive results, not just for the benefit of people who work for them, but for their own benefit. The traditional idea that you have to be cruel, driven and focused on number one if you want to achieve success is becoming less popular.
It’s notable that in the field of business research, kind leadership is more often referred to as “ethical” (有道德的) leadership, maybe because it sounds less soft. But whatever you decided to call it, studies have shown that it can result in a more positive atmosphere at work and that employees perform better too. There’s evidence that even small acts of kindness and cooperation by anyone can make a difference in a workplace. An example might be getting the printer mended, rather than leaving it broken for the next person to find, or watering the plants in the office. These actions aren’t required as part of the job, but if we carry them out, the working environment is a little better for everyone.
Of course, there are still plenty of examples of people who do well in life, but they are self-centered and unkind to others. But the point is that despite what we might see, you don’t have to be hard-nosed (不讲情面的) to get on in business or other highly competitive walks of life. You can’t be a winner simply through being kind of course — you need motivation, devotion and skills too —but there’s more and more evidence that showing some kindness as you go after your goal is no barrier to success.
4.What’s the function of paragraph 1
A.To entertain the readers B.To attract readers’ interest
C.To introduce the topic D.To inform readers of the fact
5.What inspiration can we get from James Timpson and Jacinda Arden
A.They both think kindness is the deciding factor in success.
B.Being sympathetic can only benefit people working for them.
C.Traditional ideas cannot think highly of kindness too much.
D.Being kind contributes to their success to a certain degree.
6.In the field of business, you are expected to _______.
A.give a ride to your senior workmate if it’s convenient
B.lend money to your colleagues whenever they ask
C.leave the broken printer for the next person to find
D.always ask for help from your boss when in trouble
7.What’s the best title of the passage
A.Kindness makes a great difference to our life. B.It is kindness that matters most in business.
C.Successful people give us lots of inspiration. D.Being self-centered and unkind leads to failure.

(23-24高一下·上海·期中)Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
At first, the scientists wondered whether it was a mistake. Just 21 days 28 leaving the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen, an arctic fox had arrived in Greenland. And in less than three months, the fox made it to Canada.
The fox averaged nearly 30 miles a day — some days, though, it walked almost 100 miles. The data was real, the scientists decided as the fox kept going. The creature’s traveling last year, 29 (document) in a recent paper, wowed Tarroux and his fellow Norwegian researcher Eva, 30 the animal is known for its endurance and ability to survive in harsh polar areas.
Scientists already knew that some of the foxes, native 31 Arctic areas all around the Northern Hemisphere, made long journeys: DNA exchange links far-flung fox populations in areas connected only by sea ice.
But the fox these researchers followed stood out for just 32 fast it covered more than 2,700 miles — and shed light on far-north fox sighting which explorers wondered about as far back as the 1800s.
“We didn’t really know how they 33 (do) that and how long it would take for an individual to do this kind of trip,” Tarroux said.
The coastal fox the researchers tracked, also known as a blue fox, landed in Ellesmere Island in Canada on 1 July 2018. Of the 50 or 60 animals the scientists put trackers on for a study, it was the only one 34 ventured outside of Norway.
The researchers think the fox 35 have set off because of a food shortage, but they’re not sure. The tracker stopped 36 (work) in February, so researchers no longer know the fox’s whereabouts, but it 37 (detect) for the last time on the same Canadian island in the Nunavut territory.

根据第一段“In southeastern Brazil, local fishers walk into dark waters in search of mullet (鲻鱼). On their own, it would be tricky to find the silvery fish. But the humans get help from an unusual partner—wild bottle-nose dolphins. (在巴西东南部,当地渔民走进黑暗的水域寻找鲻鱼,独自一人要找到这种银色的鱼是很困难的。但人类得到了一个不寻常的伙伴的帮助——野生宽吻海豚。)”以及第二段中“A signal from the dolphins—usually a deep dive—indicates when they should cast their nets. This fishing partnership has passed down through the generations, lasting for more than a century. (海豚发出的信号——通常是深潜——表明它们应该在什么时候撒网。这种捕鱼伙伴关系世代相传,持续了一个多世纪。)”可知,前两段主要讲了巴西渔民在海豚的帮助下收获了更多的鱼。故选C项。
10. 细节理解题。根据第三段“Now, in a new study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers suggest cetaceans that hunt with humans have more chances to live than those that don’t. (现在,在《美国国家科学院院刊》上的一项新研究中,研究人员表示,与人类一起捕猎的鲸类动物比那些不与人类一起捕猎的鲸类动物有更多的生存机会。)”以及第四段““Human-wildlife cooperation in general is an uncommon phenomenon (现象) at a global scale,” says Mauricio Cantor, a biologist at Oregon State University and leader of the study. (“在全球范围内,人类与野生动物的合作总体上是一种罕见的现象,”俄勒冈州立大学的生物学家、该研究的负责人毛里西奥·康托尔说。)”可知,毛里西奥·康托尔的研究表明和人类一起工作的海豚存活率更高。故选D项。
11. 词句猜测题。根据第五段中“Fishers were more successful when they worked with the dolphins. (当渔民和海豚一起工作时,他们更成功。)”可知,渔民和海豚的合作是取得成功的原因。结合划线词所在句“Eighty-six percent of all 4,955 mullet caught during the study period came from their interactions at the same time — when the allies organized their actions perfectly with one another. (在研究期间捕获的4955条鲻鱼中,86%来自于他们同时的互动——当allies们完美地组织他们的行动时。)”可推知,大多数的鱼都是渔民和海豚合作配合捕获的,所以,是“渔民和海豚”完美地组织了他们的行动,他们是“盟友,合作伙伴”,划线词allies与partners意思一致。故选A项。
通读全文,结合第一段“In southeastern Brazil, local fishers walk into dark waters in search of mullet (鲻鱼). On their own, it would be tricky to find the silvery fish. But the humans get help from an unusual partner — wild bottle-nose dolphins. (在巴西东南部,当地渔民走进黑暗的水域寻找鲻鱼,独自一人要找到这种银色的鱼是很困难的。但人类得到了一个不寻常的伙伴的帮助——野生宽吻海豚。)”和最后一段“The study also revealed dolphins hunting with humans had a 13 percent increase in survival rate over other dolphins. These cooperative dolphins are more likely to stay near the shore, reducing their chance of entanglement in illegal fishing equipment. Besides, the dolphins can take some fish directly from the fishers’ harvest.

Many people now get a lot of their news on electronic devices, instead of traditional media, such as newspapers, television or radio.
分析:此句主干部分是Many people ..get …news ,句中有instead of 的介词宾语electronic devices和 traditional media,还有such as 列举的成分newspapers, television or radio。
One is able to present newscasts in English; the other, in Mandarin Chinese.
One is able to present…the other …; 后一句是省略句,省略了重复部分,补充完整应为the other(is able to present newscasts)in Mandarin Chinese.
The London-based company that developed the system says its goal is to "remove the language barrier" for many different kinds of video across the Internet.
分析:此句主干部分The London-based company … says…,句中有从属连词that,引导定语从句that developed the system;says后为宾语从句its goal is to "remove the language barrier" …,省略了宾语从句引导词that。

(2022·江苏·模拟预测)Laurie Horam never thought of himself as musical. At home, his dad never listened to music, while one of his boarding school teachers labelled him tone deaf. But last month he started to play the harmonica (口琴)on the streets of Bradford. People clapped, danced and threw coins into his case for the local food bank. Horam caught himself thinking. “How, at the age of 79, do I come to be playing music to people on the streets ”
The question preoccupied him, because, some years ago at a family gathering, Gavin, his eldest son, said: “You know what, Dad It can’t be coincidental. We must have got our musical abilities from you.” Horam has three sons and they cover a range of instruments. He was surprised. “There can’t be music in me, because I can’t play! ”he said.
Eight years ago, Horam, a retired civil servant, was on his way back from a trip with his family. Gavin stopped at a music shop. He walked out and said: “Here you are. I bought this for you, Dad. It’s a harmonica. I’ll try to show you how to play a bit.”
They went to a session at their local pub. Gavin played the guitar and Horam sat in the corner with his harmonica, trying to make a sound that no one would hear. After six months, he was invited into the group. He discovered a talent for improvisation(即兴表演),responding to a note within a millisecond without batting an eyelid. “I don’t play by ear. I play by heart.” Actually, Horam says: “My harmonica plays me-how I feel, what I am, what I’ve been.”
Music has enriched life with friendship and made Horam feel “part of something much bigger” than himself. “At a time when the circle of life might be shrinking, mine is expanding,” he says. “Maybe we never know completely who we are or what we can do.”

D. Unclear.
3. What does playing the harmonica allow Horam to do
A. Enjoy the quiet.
B. Listen to his heart.
C. Express himself.
D. Sharpen his hearing.
4. What does music bring to Horam
A. A lost soul.
B. A comfortable life.
C. A broader circle of life.
D. A new perception of family.

(23-24高一下·河北石家庄·阶段练习)Recently scientists have announced some good news: Several important tuna (金枪鱼) species have stepped back from the edge of extinction.
Two bluefin tuna species, a yellowfin, and an albacore are no. longer seriously endangered or have moved off the leading international list of endangered species entirely.
The unexpectedly fast recovery speaks to the success of efforts over the past decade to end overfishing. But tuna are not the only species scientists are thinking carefully at the 2021 World Conservation Congress in Marseille, France, which is organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Researchers warn that many other sea species continued to be imperiled. For example, more than a third of the world’s sharks are still threatened with extinction due to overfishing, habitat loss, and climate change.
“I think the good news is that sustainable (可持续的) fishing industry is possible,” says Beth Polidoro, a biologist at Arizona State University. “We can eat fish without reducing the population to the point where it is on the road to dying out or extinction.” At the same time, she warns that the recovery should not encourage us to catch as many fish as we want. “We need to keep doing what’s working.” Polidoro adds.
The IUCN, which determines the world’s most endangered species on its Red List of Threatened Species, also announced at the meeting that some animals are moving in the other direction, onto the Red List. Like the Komodo dragon, an lizard (蜥蜴), it is at particular risk from climate change.
Of course, the work of protection is never over, and it will require close and continuous attention to make sure neither tuna nor Komodo dragons return to the edge of dying out. But for now, people can celebrate a few wins for the animal world.
5. What is the good news about tuna
A. They have been removed from the list of endangered species.
B. The fishing of tuna has been put to an end completely.
C. The population of some tuna species has recovered.
D. The number of some tuna species increases slowly.
6. What does the underlined word “imperiled” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Dangerous. B. Sustainable.
C. Disappointing. D. Endangered.
7. Why does the writer mention “the Komodo dragon” in paragraph 5
A. To introduce a topic. B. To make a comparison.
C. To explain an idea. D. To give an example.
8. What is the writer s attitude towards the recovery of the tuna species
A. Positive. B. Concerned. C. Critical. D. Doubtful.
C
(22-23高一下·四川眉山·期中)In southeastern Brazil, local fishers walk into dark waters in search of mullet (鲻鱼). On their own, it would be tricky to find the silvery fish. But the humans get help from an unusual partner—wild bottle-nose dolphins.
With nets in hand, the fishers patiently wait as their cetacean (鲸类的) partners drive the fish toward the shore. A signal from the dolphins—usually a deep dive—indicates when they should cast their nets. This fishing partnership has passed down through the generations, lasting for more than a century.
While researchers knew humans profited from this pairing, they couldn’t confirm whether it benefited the dolphins. Now, in a new study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers suggest cetaceans that hunt with humans have more chances to live than those that don’t.
“Human-wildlife cooperation in general is an uncommon phenomenon (现象) at a global scale,” says Mauricio Cantor, a biologist at Oregon State University and leader of the study. “Usually humans gain the benefit, and nature pays the cost. But this interaction (互动) has been happening for over 150 years.”
Fishers were more successful when they worked with the dolphins. When dolphins were present, the fishers were 17 times more likely to catch prey (猎物) and netted nearly four times more mullet when they timed their casting with the cetaceans signals. Eighty-six percent of all 4,955 mullet caught during the study period came from their interactions at the same time—when the allies organized their actions perfectly with one another.
The study also revealed dolphins hunting with humans had a 13 percent increase in survival rate over other dolphins. These cooperative (合作的) dolphins are more likely to stay near the shore reducing their chance of being caught in illegal fishing equipment. Besides, the dolphins can take some fish directly from the fishers harvest.
9. What do the first two paragraphs talk about concerning Brazilian fishers
A. They trick dolphins into fishing for them.
B. They have been training dolphins over a century.
C. They harvest more fish with dolphins’ help.
D. They throw the fishing nets when dolphins are on the top of water.
10. What does Mauricio Cantor’s research show
A. Nature supports human beings at no cost.
B. Fishers benefiting from cooperation with cetaceans is common.
C. Human-wildlife interaction is a new global trend.
D. Dolphins working with man have higher survival rate.
11. What does the underlined word “allies” refer to in paragraph 5
A. partners B. preys C. dolphins D. researchers
12. What’s the author’s main purpose in writing the text
A. To call on the protection of sea creatures.
B. To support development in fishing research.
C. To show a unique human-dolphin relationship.
D. To encourage fishers to better draw on dolphins.
D
(23-24高一下·河北张家口·阶段练习)Tai chi, a traditional, slow-moving form of Chinese martial art, is known to increase flexibility and improve balance. Now, new research suggests it’s better than more energetic aerobic exercises (有氧运动) for lowering blood pressure in people with prehypertension (高血压前期). Prehypertension is considered a warning sign that heart disease may be ahead, and it raises the risk of having a heart attack.
The new findings, published in the journal JAMA Network Open, add to a large body of research pointing to health benefits from tai chi.
In the study, researchers in China randomly assigned 342 adults with prehypertension to one of two interventions. The average age of participants was 49. Roughly half the people participated in aerobic exercises, including jogging, climbing stairs, brisk walking and cycling. The other half was trained to practice tai chi. Both groups got hour-long sessions four times a week.
After 12 months, those in the tai chi group saw bigger drops in their blood pressure than those in the aerobic exercise group. What’s more, nearly 22% of the people who practiced tai chi saw their blood pressure fall to within normal range, compared with nearly 16% of people in the aerobic exercise group. And fewer patients in the tai chi group went on to develop hypertension than in the aerobic exercise group.
How does tai chi help lower blood pressure The practice tends to cause more of a response from the parasympathetic nervous system (副交感神经系统), says Ruth Taylor-Piliae, a professor at the University of Arizona’s College of Nursing, who was not involved in the study. The parasympathetic nervous system is the network of nerves that relaxes your body after periods of stress or danger.
“I think the beauty of tai chi is that you don’t have to have a special gym membership or special clothing,” Taylor-Piliae says. “Once you learn tai chi, you can do it anytime, anyplace, anywhere. And it does kind of provide that calming, relaxing effect.”
13. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The result of the research. B. The process of the research.
C. The purpose of the research. D. The application of the research.
14. How does the author mainly organize Paragraph 4
A. By giving a definition. B. By providing examples.
C. By making comparisons. D. By presenting different opinions.
15. What is Taylor-Piliae’s attitude towards doing tai chi
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Unclear.
16. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. Tai chi Helps Relax Nervous People
B. Tai chi Helps People Prevent Prehypertension
C. Tai chi Plays a Crucial Role in Treating Patients
D. Tai chi Reduces Blood Pressure Better than Aerobic Exercise

(19-20高二上·安徽宿州·期中)Technology is forever changing the way we get our news. Many people now get a lot of their news on electronic devices, instead of traditional media, such as newspapers, television or radio. Now, there is a new way we get the news: computer-created news readers.
Recently, China's Xinhua launched (推出) the world's first AI news presenters with the Chinese search engine Sogou. The news readers created by machine learning technology are based on two real-life newsmen. One is able to present newscasts in English; the other, in Mandarin Chinese.
One Xinhua's report said machine learning was used to examine video images and sounds of the two newsmen, which look and sound like real people.
Some machine learning experts said the system showed off China's latest progress in voice recognition, text-to-speech technology and data analysis. But several experts suggested that the term AI does not correctly describe abilities of the robotic news readers.
On social media, many Chinese noted that the AI presenters did not seem real. People blamed them for not being more lifelike. Others wondered about the effects robots might have on employment and workers. Some people argued that only low-level jobs requiring heavy labor will be easily replaced by robots. Others praised the technology as a way for companies to make money from low-cost labor machines.
Some businesses have experimented with similar technology for possible use in news operations. Britain's BBC recently released a video that used machine learning to make it look like one of its news readers speaking different languages. The London-based company that developed the system says its goal is to "remove the language barrier" for many different kinds of video across the Internet.
17. What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 1
A. Introduce the topic of the text.
B. Summarize the different opinions.
C. Add some data about the AI presenters.
D. Compare different ways of getting news
18. What is the machine learning technology used to do
A. To keep AI presenters from making any mistakes.
B. To make AI presenters speak more fluently.
C. To ensure images and sounds are like real persons.
D. To bring newscasts up to date every hour.
19. What are some people worried about when AI presenters were launched
A. Robots will eventually replace human all over.
B. Robots may threaten some people's employment.
C. Robots may endanger most people's health.
D. Robots will rule over the world in the end.
20. From the last paragraph we know that______.
A. BBC has removed the language barrier in newscasts
B. BBC's news readers can speak different languages
C. BBC shows interest in Xinhua's AI news presenters
D. BBC has done similar experiments as Xinhua does作业考试化40分钟卷
