英语中，音标是拼读单词的基础，就像汉语拼音对于汉字的重要性。学好了音标有助于学生自己拼读单词，也有利于学生记忆单词。
音素和音标。
音素是语音的最小单位，指字母和字母组合在单词中的发音。记录音素的符号叫作音标，用双斜线“//”或中括号“[ ]”表示。
英语中有48个音素，其中包含20个元音和28个辅音（具体见下图）。
三、考点分析.
小升初考试，一般侧重对元音音素的考查。究其原因，元音音素发音多样，同一个字母在不同的单词中会发出多个音；同时，原因中还有长短音的区分。对于中国学习者，长短音的学习也是一个难点。
小升初考试中，还喜欢对一些辅音字母组合的发音进行考查，比如th, sh,ch等等。不管怎么说，辅音及其字母组合的发音比较固定，辅音音素相对容易掌握，题目也相对简单一些。
