Many people get nervous sometimes, like when giving a speech. But social anxiety disorder (SAD) (社交焦虑症), or social phobia (社交恐惧症), is more than just shyness. It includes strong fear of certain social situations—especially situations that are unfamiliar or in which they feel they will be watched or judged by others. They may be afraid that people will think badly of them. So they try as much to avoid social situations.
Social phobia has a bad influence on their relationships, performance in school or at work, and daily life. So people with social phobia make efforts to stop it. Unluckily, they usually fail. For example, a person with a phobia of speaking in public prepares his speech again and again to make sure he does not fail. However, this only makes him pay more attention to any mistakes he makes. Even a small mistake may make him anxious (焦虑的).
PHOBIAS BY AGE AND GENDER
So here comes the question: Can social anxiety be overcome
Of course you can ask for professional help. However, there are also other things you can do to self-manage. Below are some ideas:
Number the social activities based on how anxious you feel from 1 to 10. Number 1 means the activity gives you the least anxiety. Taking small steps means to do several activities numbered “1” every week. Just get yourself out there and be more comfortable with social situations. It is one of the best ways to beat the anxiety itself. Once you feel better, you can try other activities numbered “2”, “3” and so forth.
Record your thoughts
Write down your feelings and how you deal with them in social situations. And write down things you can improve on. Whether it’s changing your mind, doing something in a better way, or finding another choice, there are many things to do in a healthy manner. Gradually, you will find the cause and the solution.
Focus on physical health
Each body part can’t work independently. To keep your mental health, you must care for your physical health. Try to eat well, sleep well and exercise often.
DID YOU KNOW According to The World Health Organization (WHO), “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
If you find yourself a little nervous in social situations, just actively face it, you can learn to be comfortable in social situations and enjoy your life.
1.When might people with social phobia feel anxious (One example is OK.)
2.According to Chart II, which age group are most likely to experience social phobia What could be the reason
3.Why does the writer talk about the person who prepares for the speech
4.What’s the subtitle (小标题) of the first advice
5.Why should people record their thoughts
6.What’s your understanding of health How can you keep healthy
【答案】
Being the focus of attention.

Traditional learning is not always working—at least not for all students. So are there any better methods for kids to learn Problem-based learning (PBL) is one of them. What is PBL
Problem-based learning is a student-centered method. Students learn about a subject by working in groups to solve a real-world problem. A well-designed PBL project provides students with the chance to develop skills related to working in teams, speaking and written communication, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and using different subjects in daily life.
In 1969, Doctor Barrows created PBL teaching method in Canada. The method needed to combine (结合) students’ self-learning with teachers’ guidance. In the 1980s, PBL developed quickly in North America and spread to Europe after 1990. Now it is popular with more and more colleges and universities.
What are the differences between traditional learning and PBL
Traditional learning needs teachers to tell students what they need to know, ask students to remember it and explain how to use it to students. However, with PBL, teachers only need to organize problems, identify (确认) what students need to know and then students think of ways to solve the problems.
How to put PBL into action
First, make sure of learning goals, such as what students can really learn after completing the learning goals. Then, find a real-world problem that is related to the students and may appear in their own life or in the future. Next, explore what they have already known and make sure what they need to learn and where they can get the information and tools to solve the problem. After that, work in groups to communicate and discuss the possible ways to solve the problem. Finally, solve the problem and report their findings.

With the development of technology, our city life is becoming more and more “smart”.
In recent years, Chinese technology companies have worked hard to speed up the use of robotaxis. In June 2023, Baidu carried out its driverless ride-hailing (打车) service in Shenzhen, Guangdong. Its Apollo Go robotaxis have been put into use in Shenzhen from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Passengers can download Apps like Apollo Go or Baidu Map to their smartphones. Then tell the App where they are and where they want to go. After that, a car will appear. With sensors (传感器) and cameras placed all over the car, a computer takes full control of the drive safely. A screen on the back seats shows how the robotaxi’s software (软件) looks at the space around the car to see other cars, humans, bikes, and anything else that might get in its way.

We might often say “I don’t have time”. Every time we say “I don’t have time”, it makes us feel weak and out of control. In fact, how to make use of our time is up to us.
Step 1 Find out what matters to you Ask yourself: What activities really matter to me Cooking, reading, and playing sports are all important things — if they make you happy! No matter how busy you are, there’s still enough time as long as you save a little time every day.
Step 2 Know what stops you Be honest: How long do you spend on the screens every day Are you doing what you don’t really like After knowing what stops you, you can think about useful things that satisfy you.
Step 3 Whatever you want to do, the time is now. The solution is to make your own calendar. Put activities like reading, calling a friend, and even walking your dog on your calendar.
Step 4 Change your language Words have power. Saying “I don’t have time” is an excuse for not wanting to do something. Just change your words. You can say some powerful words like “I’d love to read that book after my homework is finished!”
To make use of your time, dealing with the jobs in order of importance is important. However, clearly planning is more important when you must do each job. This way, you are in control of your hours and your life. Every day, we have little pockets of time that can be used, for example, you can review your notes on the subway. All these things can add up over time more than you believe! Yes, it might feel strange at first. But you’re holding your power. It’s your life and your hours. They’re all you’ve got!

Glaciers (冰川) are formed in areas of high snowfall in winter and cool temperatures in summer. They are large rivers of ice that moves slowly over land. They can come in lots of different shapes and sizes from small glaciers found in mountains which may only be a few meters wide, to large glaciers which are over hundreds of thousands of kilometers.
About 10% of the world’s land is covered by glaciers. They serve as natural reservoirs (水库) because 75% of all the freshwater in the world is frozen in glaciers. That’s why glaciers are quite important.
Scientists believe that the disappearance of glaciers will lead to more serious results in the near future.
There will be more earthquakes. Large glaciers stop small earthquakes because the plates (板块) can’t move much under these huge objects. In Southeast Alaska, some glaciers are gone and the land is lifted. So the plates can move more quickly, and this leads to more earthquakes there.
Volcanoes will become “hot” again. Volcanoes (火山) are waking up because of the disappearing glaciers. Even volcanoes that weren’t lively have broken out for several times in recent years. Scientists said that the glaciers have something to do with it. The volcanoes will become “hot” again after the glaciers get thin.
____▲____ For example, coral (珊瑚) grows in saltwater. Too much freshwater is not good for coral. People, animals and plants need freshwater from glaciers to live. They will be in danger if this freshwater goes into the sea.
Something must be done. Many people are now living a low-carbon life which is a way of
living with less carbon dioxide (CO ). For example, they prefer to take public transportation, turn off the tap after using it and use both sides of the paper. These are helpful to slow down global warming. As long as people help cut down on the carbon dioxide emissions (排放), glaciers will exist for a little longer and continue to serve humans.
31.What are glaciers
32.Why are glaciers important
33.What can we learn from the chart (图表)
34.How do glaciers influence volcanoes according to the table

Most of Chinese people can think of one or two lines of this famous poem written by Yu Guangzhong when it comes to homesickness. It seems far away from you. However, in a few months, you will enter senior high school and move into a school dormitory (宿舍). When you are away from your family for a long time, you may sense homesickness.
Sadness plays a big part in feeling homesick. People always have some good memories about home. When we compare everything in our day to our experience back home, we will feel very upset.
Different people deal with homesickness in different ways. Some ring home and have a chat with the people who they think represent ‘home’ —often their mum or dad. This may be a good idea for you to feel that you are not lonely. It reminds you that home is still there. However, it can make you miss them and want to be home even more. For this very reason, some people find better not to contact home but to let the lonely feeling pass by doing fun activities. This can work well to help you get used to the place which you are living or staying in. Besides, we should pay more attention to the people around us. For example, share your feelings with your roommates, which makes you have a better understanding of the homesickness.
Reminding yourself where you are can make you see the bigger picture. So remind yourself
home is great, but where I am right now is also great for different reasons!
37.What does Yu Guangzhong want to show in his Nostalgia

As we move through life, we find that there are many things out of our control. One thing that we can control is who our friends are. It is important because it either makes our lives colorful and enjoyable or more stressful and disappointing.
Why Do We Need Friends

◇ Friends help you improve your healthResearch shows that healthy relationships actually help you stay in good physical health.
◇ ▲ Great friends have the power to bring out the best in you. They encourage and push you to do better and be the person you want to be-your “ideal self”. ◇ Friends help you beat stress Friends can help you deal with stressful situations. If you know there’s someone you can depend on, you may be less stressed.
How Many Friends Should We Have
You might think that you need to have tons of friends to be happy, but actually, it isn’t the number of friends, but the quality (品质) of friends, that leads to the true happiness.

Kites were invented by the ancient Chinese about 2,300 years ago! In very early times, kites were used by the military (军方). They were used as messages. They provided a special form of communication similar to ship flags at sea. Soldiers could see them flying and knew what they meant. Legend says: They also made kites make terrible sounds to scare the enemy. By Tang times, kites had become a lively folk activity for pleasure. And they were designed to act like birds with wings and color, especially the color red, which meant good luck.
The History and Development of Kites
It’s said that in the city of Weifang, Marco Polo, in 1282, watched the flying of a kite with people in it. When he returned to Italy, Marco Polo brought with him a Chinese kite, and soon, the

After
that, work in groups to communicate and discuss the possible ways to solve the problem. Finally, solve the problem and report their findings.
13.Who are paid close attention to in PBL
14.What skills can a well-designed PBL project provide for students to develop according to Paragraph 2 (Two examples are OK.)
15.What is the best subtitle (小标题) of Paragraph 3
16.Which needs students to think of ways to solve the problem, traditional learning or PBL How can students solve the problem

How do people use Apollo Go to get a ride
Chart Ⅰ
The following is about the user satisfaction rating (比率) for the Apollo Go App during the first quarter of 2023. According to the latest data (数据), 97.12 percent of the reviews are five-star ratings.
Meanwhile, drivers in the city can also enjoy the convenience of smart transportation, In Guiyang, at some smart parking lots, drivers only need to park their cars at an induction line (感应线). A smart system(系统) can put the cars into a specific (特定的) area. When drivers want to get back their cars, they make a request on the terminal device (终端设备) and the car will come out of the parking lot by itself in about one minute.
All in all, smart transportation uses new technologies to make moving around a city easier and safer.

25.How might people feel when they say “I don’t have time”
26.According to Step 2, why do you have to know what stops you first
27.What’s the best subtitle (小标题) of Step 3
28.“I don’t have time to do homework.” is an excuse for not wanting to do homework. How could you change it into powerful words
29.Which is more important if you want to make use of your time, “dealing with the jobs” or “planning when to do each job” Why
30.Are you good at making use of your time What will you do to manage your time better

The
volcanoes will become “hot” again after the glaciers get thin.
____▲____ For example, coral (珊瑚) grows in saltwater. Too much freshwater is not good for coral. People, animals and plants need freshwater from glaciers to live. They will be in danger if this freshwater goes into the sea.
Something must be done. Many people are now living a low-carbon life which is a way of living with less carbon dioxide (CO ).
35.Please fill in the blank with a proper sentence.
36.What’s the advantage of a low-carbon lifestyle As students, what else can you do to lower carbon dioxide emissions

This can work
well to help you get used to the place which you are living or staying in. Besides, we should pay more attention to the people around us. For example, share your feelings with your roommates, which makes you have a better understanding of the homesickness.
Reminding yourself where you are can make you see the bigger picture. So remind yourself home is great, but where I am right now is also great for different reasons!
