C
Going through social media can quickly convince you that everyone’s life is more interesting than yours. During a particularly adventurous week on Instagram some months ago, I saw waterskiing in Maui, and swimming with wild pigs in the Bahamas. Wild pigs! I started googling flights to new places, imagining adventures. Then I ordered food from the place I eat at every week and … felt bad about not trying somewhere new.
Recent research about repeat and novel experiences suggests that we ought to reconsider those negative feelings associated with repetition. Ed O’Brien, a professor at the University of Chicago, launched a series of studies on this topic, “There’s a general belief that if you want to seem like an interesting, cultured person, the best thing you can do is to showcase that you’re open to new experiences,” he says. “That may be true, but I think we take for granted the value of really digging deep into one field.”
To test this hypothesis (假设), O’Brien and his team exposed all participants to the same stimulus (刺激), including museum visits, movies, and video games. Next, some people were asked to imagine repeating the experience, while others actually did repeat what they had done. The researchers found that on the whole, participants said that repeating experiences was often far more enjoyable than they had predicted.
There is joy in repetition partly because every human mind wanders. Consequently, we miss a good part of every experience. Repeating things can really be seen as another opportunity to actually experience something fully. O’Brien’s studies show that people are too quick to assume that they’ve seen all the layers even in those cases where they haven’t. It’s safe to assume there are more explorable layers in any experience. When we’re noticing new things in any experience, our brain becomes engaged. All we need to do is approach whatever task is at hand by searching for the things that we didn’t see in it the first time around.
28.Why does the author mention his experiences in Paragraph. 1
A.To introduce the bad feelings linked to repetition.
B.To show novel experiences are more interesting.
C.To tell us a common belief about social media.
D.To present to us his new imagined adventures.
29.What did O’Brien’s studies find
A.People were open to new experiences.
B.Imagination was exciting on the whole.
C.Repeating experiences made one bored.
D.Digging deep into one field was enjoyable.
30.How can we keep our brain engaged
A.By searching for the ignored elements.
B.By assuming we didn’t see all at first.
C.By approaching whatever task is at hand.
D.By keeping focused on every experience.
31.What is the text mainly about
A.The joy of social media adventures.
B.The value of repetition in experiences.
C.The importance of trying new things.
D.The benefits of travel and exploration.
【答案】28.A 29.D 30.A 31.B
再根据第二段开头“Recent research about repeat and novel experiences suggests that we ought to reconsider those negative feelings associated with repetition.”(最近对于重复和新鲜的经历的研究表明,我们应该重新考虑这些和重复相关的消极的感受。)
故选A。
根据第二段中“...but I think we take for granted the value of really digging deep into one field.”(但是我认为我们忽视了真正深入挖掘一个领域的价值。)再根据第三段中“The researchers found that on the whole, participants said that repeating experiences was often far more enjoyable than they had predicted.”(研究者发现,整体上来讲,参与者说重复经历比他们之前预计的更有趣。)以及第四段中“Repeating things can really be seen as another opportunity to actually experience something fully.”(重复可以被当作一个完全体验一件事的机会。)
根据第四段中“When we’re noticing new things in any experience, our brain becomes engaged. All we need to do is approach whatever task is at hand by searching for the things that we didn’t see in it the first time around.”(在任何一个经历中,当我们注意到新事物的时候,我们的大脑就忙起来了。
根据最后一段“There is joy in repetition partly because every human mind wanders. All we need to do is approach whatever task is at hand by searching for the things that we didn’t see in it the first time around.”(重复之所以有乐趣,部分是因为每个人的思维都在漫游。

Native plants planted by the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia near the GA-10 Loop in Athens, Ga., are changing the area from being covered in kudzu back to a more natural state.
The project, funded by Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful, was planted in November 2021. Volunteers and students from the UGA College of Environment and Design all participated to plant the area along the entrance ramp (斜坡) next to the GA-10 Loop at Milledge Avenue.
Zach Wood, the grasslands coordinator (协调人) at the State Botanical Garden, said all the plants chosen for the project are native to Georgia. He said that they selected hardy species of plants they felt pretty confident would survive. In total, 22 native plant species are planted at the site.
“Native plants function to support their ecosystem, and that’s important because our roadsides are turning into monocultures of non-native species that don’t support our native wildlife,” Wood said.
He added that non-native species don’t filter (过滤) water as well as native species, which is significant on roadsides to handle stormwater runoff.
When they’ve checked on the plants, all the species planted were established and growing. Wood said there was concern the plants would succumb to drought, but the value of native plants is their ability to survive in stressful conditions.
The team doesn’t water the area at all.
“It would go against the spirit of doing it, “Wood said. “We’re trying to figure out the least effort to put native plants back into a place that’s been kind of beat up.”
“This project is so important because it’s so visible,” Wood said. “It’s going to demonstrate an alternative way of managing roadsides.”
“We’re always looking for ways to make things sustainable,” said Richard Littleton, state agronomist (农学家) manager at GDOT. “The more we can do that’s natural, it helps everything. It’s the right thing to do to be a good caretaker of our lands.”
32.Why was kudzu replaced
A.Ugly-looking.
B.Too large.
C.Nonnative.
D.Artificial.
33.What does the underlined phrase “succumb to” in paragraph 6 mean
A.Survive from.
B.Give in to.
C.Add to.
D.Get rid of.
34.In what aspect is the project the most beneficial
A.Environmentally.
B.Financially.
C.Academically.
D.Politically.
35.Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text
A.Planting Green Species at Roadside Areas.

根据第一段“Native plants planted by the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia near the GA-10 Loop in Athens, Ga. , are changing the area from being covered in kudzu back to a more natural state.”(佐治亚州雅典市GA -10环线附近乔治亚大学乔治亚州立植物园种植的本土植物,正在将葛草覆盖的地区恢复到更自然的状态。)以及第三段中“Zach Wood, the grasslands coordinator (协调人) at the State Botanical Garden, said all the plants chosen for the project are native to Georgia.”(扎克·伍德是州立植物园的草原协调员,他说所有为这个项目选择的植物都是格鲁吉亚本土的。)
根据第六段中“but the value of native plants is their ability to survive in stressful conditions.”(但本土植物的价值在于它们在压力条件下生存的能力。)以及第七段“The team doesn’t water the area at all.”(这支队伍根本不给这片区域浇水。)
根据最后一段““We’re always looking for ways to make things sustainable,” said Richard Littleton, state agronomist (农学家) manager at GDOT. “The more we can do that’s natural, it helps everything. It’s the right thing to do to be a good caretaker of our lands.””(“我们一直在寻找可持续发展的方法,”GDOT的州农学家(农学家)经理理查德·利特尔顿(Richard Littleton)说。“我们做得越自然,对一切都有帮助。这是我们管好自己土地的正确做法。”)可推知,这个项目在环保方面最有利。故选A项。
根据文章大意以及第一段“Native plants planted by the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia near the GA-10 Loop in Athens, Ga. , are changing the area from being covered in kudzu back to a more natural state.”(佐治亚州雅典市GA -10环线附近乔治亚大学乔治亚州立植物园种植的本土植物,正在将葛草覆盖的地区恢复到更自然的状态。)
Loneliness is a bigger health threat than smoking 15 cigarettes a day, according to a new research. Our ancestors likely did not suffer from a lack of companions. Why has loneliness become such a threat How might it be addressed
In the distant past, there were few complaints about loneliness. Indeed, every person in a community including children was up to speed on every detail of the lives of everyone else. Instead of suffering from loneliness, our distant ancestors were oppressed (被压迫) by a lack of privacy. 36 They facilitate distance. How did loneliness take over contemporary life
Typically, people move away from family and friends for work opportunities. Yet, cities often function as gatherings of relative strangers rather than functional communities. The many people wandering around in a city are irrelevant if we have no social connection with them. Migrants to cities may establish various meaningful social links. 37 These might be the people we work among, those who frequent a coffee shop, or members of a gym or sports club. Such associations are not made automatically. 38 In some cases, those who eagerly need social connection can fare poorly in cities.
39 According to the U. S. Surgeon General’s Report on Loneliness, people who spend more time online are lonelier. People who claim thousands of online “friends” are often chronically anxious, disconnected and depressed. Perhaps, they would gain better social bonus by being kind to people in real life.
Virtually, not everyone needs constant companionship. This is not merely a question of how extroverted a person is. 40 People with a strong sense of external purpose barely suffer from loneliness, whether they perfect their dance moves, get involved in political activism or train service dogs. In this vein, anyone who cultivates a love of nature may become a part of the natural world. That is an endless source of peace, happiness, and connection.
A.Their habits contributed to loneliness.
B.They require openness, initiative and effort.
C.Rather, it reflects how someone leads their life.
D.Outgoing people will live a busy life with social media.
E.Today, social media bring back the invasions of privacy.
F.Many turn to social media for companionship with mixed results.
G.However, associations are often formed through accidental networks.
36.根据上文“In the distant past, there were few complaints about loneliness. Indeed, every person in a community including children was up to speed on every detail of the lives of everyone else. Instead of suffering from loneliness, our distant ancestors were oppressed by a lack of privacy. (在遥远的过去,很少有人抱怨孤独。事实上,一个社区里的每个人,包括孩子,都能迅速了解其他人生活的每一个细节。我们的远祖并没有遭受孤独的折磨,而是受到缺乏隐私的压迫)”及下文“They facilitate distance. How did loneliness take over contemporary life (它们促进了距离。孤独是如何接管当代生活的)”可知,上文主要讲过去我们的祖先的生活,他们不孤独,没有隐私空间,而下文是讲述我们现在的生活,人们常常感到孤独。由此可知,E. Today, social media bring back the invasions of privacy.(今天,社交媒体带来了对隐私的侵犯)符合语境。空后They指代social media。故选E项。
37.根据上文“Migrants to cities may establish various meaningful social links.(迁移民到城市可以建立各种有意义的社会联系)”及下文“These might be the people we work among, those who frequent a coffee shop, or members of a gym or sports club. Such associations are not made automatically. (这些人可能是我们的同事,经常去咖啡店的人,或者是健身房或体育俱乐部的成员)”可知,上文说在城市工作可以建立有意义的社会联系,而下文却列举了一些随机组成的社会群体,由此可知,G. However, associations are often formed through accidental networks(然而,联系往往是通过偶然的网络形成的).
38.根据上文“These might be the people we work among, those who frequent a coffee shop, or members of a gym or sports club. Such associations are not made automatically. (这些人可能是我们的同事,经常去咖啡店的人,或者是健身房或体育俱乐部的成员。这种联系不是自动形成的)”可知,这些社群是要主动积极参与。由此可知,B. They require openness, initiative and effort.(它们需要开放、主动和努力)符合语境,其中they指代上文中Such associations。故选B项。
According to the U. S. Surgeon General’s Report on Loneliness, people who spend more time online are lonelier. People who claim thousands of online “friends” are often
chronically anxious, disconnected and depressed. Perhaps, they would gain better social bonus by being kind to people in real life. F. Many turn to social media for companionship with mixed results.(许多人转向社交媒体寻求陪伴,结果好坏参半)符合语境,后文提到了寻找网络朋友的弊端。故选F项。
40.根据上文“Virtually, not everyone needs constant companionship. This is not merely a question of how extroverted a person is. (事实上,并不是每个人都需要持续的陪伴。这不仅仅是一个人有多外向的问题)”及下文“People with a strong sense of external purpose barely suffer from loneliness, whether they perfect their dance moves, get involved in political activism or train service dogs. In this vein, anyone who cultivates a love of nature may become a part of the natural world. That is an endless source of peace, happiness, and connection.(外在使命感强的人几乎不会感到孤独,无论是完善自己的舞蹈动作,参与政治活动,还是训练服务犬。从这个意义上说,任何培养对自然的热爱的人都可能成为自然世界的一部分。这是和平、幸福和联系的无尽源泉)”可知,上文指出,有些人并不需要他人的持续陪伴,性格外向程度是一方面,却不仅限于此,由此可知,C. Rather, it reflects how someone leads their life.(相反,它反映了一个人如何过自己的生活)契合上文,有的人不需要他人持续陪伴,这还可能反映了他的生活方式,下文例举了一些生活方式的例子。故选C项。

56.traditionally 57.to 58.which 59.is based 60.chewing 61.a 62.floats 63.but 64.snake’s 65.to buy
故填to。
故填which。
故填is based。
故填a。
故填but。
从句谓语动词是expressed,此处为非谓语动词,根据a desire to do sth. 故填to buy。

An Outdoor Activity
Last Sunday, our school led us to a forest park, which is about 20 kilometers away from our school.
At 8 a.m. we boarded a bus at the school gate, and it took nearly an hour to reach there. The moment we entered the park, we were immersed in a sea of flowers. Walking along the path, we encountered some wild animals, such as peacocks and monkeys. When we finally approached a river, some went boating, while the others sat by the river side, enjoying snacks and drinks. Not until 12 p.m. did we leave.
The hiking not only alleviated our stress, but also enhanced our love for nature.

Maria and Peter lived in a coastal city. The greatest pleasure in summer for them was to swim at their local beach after school. But one day they started to lose their enthusiasm for swimming in the waters. More often than not, they would find plastic bags thrown on the beach. Worse sill, as they swam in the water, some plastic bags would
float around them and even stick to their legs when they walked to the shore.
They were upset and decided something needed to be done to stop the beautiful sea becoming consumed by waste. One weekend,Maria and Peter brought a big bag to the beach and determined to clean it up. Sweat streamed down from their forehead while they bent down and picked up the plastic bags. To their disappointment, after a day’s hard work, there were still many plastic bags lying on the beach or floating in the water. Going home with aching legs and arms, Maria and Peter were almost defeated by a strong sense of failure.
That night over dinner with their parents, the pair ale silently. Noticing their low spirits, Mother asked gently, “You two looked so down. What happened ”Exchanging glances with Peter, Maria replied in a low voice,“It’s those annoying plastic bags. We tried to clean up but it was just impossible.”Understanding the pair’s disappointment, their father patted them on the back and comforted,”Well, it’s really hard for just two of you to fix such a big problem.”“Just two of us.”complained Maria and Peter, looking at each other.Suddenly, an idea lashed through their minds, their eyes shining with excitement.“Yes,that’s the point! We should make more people aware of the problem and encourage them to take action!” the pair said in chorus.

答案:
Quickly finishing their dinner, the pair went upstairs and started planning. Maria and Peter decided to take advantage of the Internet. “Maybe we can write an article to arouse people's awareness.” Maria proposed. “Good idea! We can also make a video!" Peter added. The next few hours witnessed their heated discussion and growing confidence in a clean and beautiful coast. The next day, they went to the beach and filmed a short video showing plastic bags lying on the beach and floating in the sea. Peter, who was good at writing, wrote an article talking about the present situation of the beach and asking people to take part in the clean-up.
Excited and nervous, they posted the video and article on WeChat. To their amazement, their post went viral online immediately. Countless comments flooded in saying how heartbroken they were when looking at the polluted beach and ocean. What amazed Maria and Peter more was that numerous people in their community, encouraged by
their efforts, offered to join in their clean-up. More and more people came to the beach to collect plastic bags and they also appealed to others to avoid throwing or using plastic bags. A year later, with their joint and continuous effort, the coast regained its beauty and Maria and Peter regained their long-awaited pleasure.

That is an endless source of peace, happiness, and
connection.

Maria and Peter lived in a coastal city. The greatest pleasure in summer for them was to swim at their local beach after school. But one day they started to lose their enthusiasm for swimming in the waters. More often than not, they would find plastic bags thrown on the beach. Worse sill, as they swam in the water, some plastic bags would float around them and even stick to their legs when they walked to the shore.
