Paris, the capital of France, has some attractive bridges. These are four of the most beautiful bridges in
Paris: some in iconic (标志性的 ) places you’ve seen in the movies, and others in quiet places that you’ll
delight in discovering.
Pont des Arts
Connecting the Louvre Museum to the Institut de France, the Pont des Arts, first built by Napoleon
Bonaparte in 1804 and reconstructed in the 1970s, is a bridge only for people walking that is beloved by
tourists and locals alike. In the spring and summer months, Parisians and visitors come here for lazy picnics
overlooking the Seine.
Pont Marle
This lovely but little-known bridge is a gateway between the Marais district on the right bank and a
natural island on the Seine River. The current stone structure dates to around 1670, following a fire on its
wooden structure that destroyed much of the original bridge and the houses that once stood on it. It has
remained much the same since the 18th century, making it one of Paris’ oldest bridges.
Pont Alexandre Ⅲ
The Pont Alexandre Ⅲ is probably the most attractive of Paris’ many bridges. Built between 1896 and
1900, it connects the des Invalides with the gardens of the Petit Palais. It’s after dark that you can best
appreciate its delicate statues and other decorative elements.
Pont Neuf
First built in 1578 by King Henry Ⅲ, Pont Neuf has seen numerous reconstructions and changes over

easy and picturesque access to the left and right bank. Have some ice cream, explore the lovely riverside
paths and enjoy views of Notre Dame Cathedral.

C.It is the most attractive bridge in Paris. D.It is a bridge only for people walking.

Riding a motorbike in Uganda was something only men could do. At least that is what Allen Kisakye
Butundu was told when she said she wanted to learn to ride one. “The community were shocked to see a
female rider. Some people would even shout things at me and chase me.” she says.
The 27-year-old decided to learn to ride a motorbike two years ago. Initially, the decision was to save
money on travel between the capital, Kampala, and the more rural areas where she worked as a social worker.
But she is now one of just a few female riders of boda boda, as motorbike taxis are known, in Uganda.
Butundu earns up to 10 a day on her motorbike and is the chief breadwinner(养家活口的人) for her
children and husband, a trained vet, who has regular periods without work. But the journey has not been easy
in a society with engrained gender roles. Her husband “refused completely” when she asked him to teach her
how to ride.
“I didn’t give up.” she says. “I stopped boda boda drivers on the road and said: ‘ I’m not a customer but
I want to learn how to ride this bike. I want to do your business. ’ ”
Butundu was taught by other riders, paying them a small fee or buying petrol. Her husband eventually
came around to her new passion and bought a 1,400 bike. Last year, she became a full-time driver. Working
from about 10 am to 6 pm most days, Butundu decided to give up her former career because she could be
more flexible with her hours. She has recently bought another bike and rents one out to a friend.
“Being a woman can have benefits.” she says. Riders are constantly trying to avoid police officers in
central Kampala as they weave(穿梭) in and out of heavy traffic. This often leads to the police forcing
drivers to pay large fines. “But when they notice I am a woman, instead of being tough, they start smiling and
they let me go.”she laughs.
Butundu hopes her story will encourage other women to start riding boda boda in Uganda. She is
determined to keep on breaking gender boundaries. “Those who talk, let them talk.” she laughs. “This woman
is serious now. ”
24.Why did Butundu learn to ride a motorbike
A. She was unhappy with her job.
B. She was encouraged by her family.
C. She wanted to reduce her travel expenses.
D. She was moving to a rural area.

A. flexible. B. difficult. C. fixed. D. creative.
26.What made Butundu go full time
A. The chance to earn a higher salary.
B. The chance to learn from other riders.

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed to operate at human levels have greatly expanded in popularity
over the past year. These include OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s AI-powered search
engine Bing. Such tools, also known as chatbots or generative AI, are computer-powered systems. They are
designed to interact smoothly with humans and perform high-level writing and creative work.
In recent months, these tools have demonstrated an ability to produce high-quality work. This has led
some technology experts to warn that generative AI systems could end up replacing workers in many
industries.
This year, researchers at Harvard Business School and other organizations carried out an experiment. It
aimed to test how well AI tools could help workers perform their usual duties or tasks. It involved more than
700 business advisors, called consultants, from Massachusetts-based Boston Consulting Group.
Harvard Business School recently published the results from the experiment in a working paper. The
main findings suggest that AI tools like ChatGPT can greatly improve worker performance. For example,
researchers found that, on average, workers who used OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT 4 tool completed 12 percent
more tasks than non-ChatGPT users. Tasks carried out with help from the AI technology were completed 25
percent faster. And the team found the quality of work performed by consultants using ChatGPT 4 increased
by about 40 percent.
However, the paper also noted areas where the performance of consultants using ChatGPT 4 dropped.
The researchers said this was especially true with tasks the AI tool was not good at completing. “Of tasks the
AI was good at, the experiment showed it significantly improved human performance,” the paper said. “But
for tasks ChatGPT 4 was not right for, humans relied too much on the AI and were more likely to make
mistakes.”
The team suggests one of the biggest barriers to companies effectively using AI is not knowing which
tasks can be completed best with the technology. Finding this out will require businesses to carry out
thoughtful research and training efforts in order to find the right mix of AI and human-level work.
28. What is a purpose of designing AI tools according to the text
A. To perform low-level writing. B. To replace technology experts.
C. To finish high-quality work. D. To improve interpersonal communication.
29. Why does the author mention ChatGPT 4 in paragraph 4
A. To explain the disadvantages of AI tools.
B. To show how well AI tools could help workers.
C. To forecast changes in the future working environment.
D. To compare the work performance between humans and AI tools.
30. What can be learned from the last paragraph
A. Companies need to balance the work of AI and humans.
第 4 页 共 9 页
{#{QQABRQAEogggAIAAAAgCUwVCCEMQkACAAYgOgEAIsAABwRFABAA=}#}
B. It is useless to train so many workers to learn to use AI.
C. It is easy to find the right mix of AI and human-level work.
D. Research on using AI effectively has been made by businesses.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. ChatGPT Can See, Hear and Speak Now
B. Ways to Improve Your Performance at Work
C. The Fast Development of Artificial Intelligence
D. AI Tools Help but also Harm Worker Performance

You probably like blue, and you’re not alone. Across the globe, a majority of people tend to select blue
as their favourite colour. A new study from University of Wisconsin found that not only do we adore blue, but
we start to give meaning to colours as we age.
During the study conducted by psychology professor Karen Schloss at the University of Wisconsin in
2019, the researchers investigated the science of how different people perceive colour. They noted that
subjects with a preference for a sports team found their favourite team’s colours more favourable. The more
they valued their team, the more they favoured the specific colour. “It tells us that our experiences with the
world are constantly influencing the way we view colour,” Schloss says.
So, why does blue dominate lists of favourites From previous surveys the researchers found that blue
has been a favourite colour. Even the earliest-recorded colour studies from the 1800s show that blue is
universally loved, due at least in part to our fondness for blues in nature. Many colours in nature that we love
are blue, especially a blue sky, the sea and many flowers. A blue sky is enough to make many people very
happy. It’s possible then, that blue offer plenty of positive experiences, which we unconsciously link to our
favourite colour.
But blue isn’t the only attention-grabbing colour. The other finding of the research was that our colour
interests change as we gain new experiences. The younger you are, for instance, the more likely you are to
enjoy a brighter colour. As you age, you’re more likely to take on darker colours as your favourites; younger
women, according to the researchers, tend to enjoy purples and reds, while younger men may lean toward
green or yellow-green. The studies showed that dark yellowish-brown was the world’s least liked colour.
Simply put, the things we enjoy most in our lives will drive our colour preferences.
32. What does the underlined word “It” refer to in paragraph 2
A. The specific sports team. B. A subject’s personality.
C. People’s preference of a colour. D. The feature of colours.
33. What do the early colour studies tell us
A. Human beings are fully linked to nature.
B. Our preference for blue is longstanding.
C. It’s a coincidence that blue is our favourite.
D. Blue is associated to the sky and the sea.
34. What was the second finding of the research
A. Our colour preferences may shift over time.
B. We may prefer brighter colours as we age.
C. We tend to stick with just one colour in our lives.
D. Blue is a top choice for favourite colour in the world.
35. What can be concluded from the text
A. Older people can understand the colours better.

第二节 (满分 25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Mark was a 11-year-old boy. One day he was selling magazines for his school fees, walking up to a
house that people rarely visited. The house was very old and shabby and the owner hardly ever came out.
When he did come out, he would not say hello to his neighbors or passers-by but simply just glared at(怒视)
them. It was said that the old man’s name was Henry.
Mark knocked on the door and waited, sweating due to fear of the old man. Mark’s parents told him to
stay away from the house, and a lot of other neighborhood children were told the same thing by their parents.
Dusk found Mark wandering and hesitating(犹豫) what to do. As he was ready to walk away, the door
slowly opened: “Why are you standing here ” the old man Henry said impatiently. Mark was very afraid but
he had to sell a certain number of magazines for his school fees... So he got up the courage and said, “Uh, sir,
I am selling these magazines and, uh, I was wondering if you would like to buy one from me.”
Henry just stared at Mark without saying a word. Mark could see that Henry had dog figurines(小雕像)
on the shelves inside his house. “Do you collect dog figurines ” Mark asked. “Yes, I have many collections in
my house. They are my family here and they are all I have.” Mark then felt sorry for Henry, as it seemed that
he was a very lonely soul.
“Well, I do have a magazine here for collectors. It is perfect for you. I also have one about dogs since
you like dogs so much.” Henry was ready to close the door on the boy and said, “No, boy. I don’t need any
magazines of any kind, now goodbye.”
Mark was sad that he was not going to achieve his goal of selling a certain number of magazines. He
was also sad for the old man being so alone in the house that he owned. Mark went home and then had an
idea. He had a little dog figurine that he had got some years before from an aunt. The figurine did not mean
so much to him since he had a real living dog and a large family.
