Hiking(徒步)can be a great way to relax, get away and enjoy the natural beauty around us. Going on a hike sounds like a walk in the park, but there are some risks when you head out into the wildness. We spoke with Sgt. John Adams from the Search and Rescue unit(搜救部)to learn what you can do to keep safe.
Tell someone where you’re going
Especially if you’re hiking alone, it is important to make sure someone knows exactly where you’re going and when you expect to be back. And the information you left with a friend or family member will make it easier for Search and Rescue to find you.
Do some research and check conditions before you go
The weather can be very different even an hour from where you live, and trail(路径)conditions can change daily.

Adams suggests you should think about bringing along a personal locator beacon(定位信标)and a whistle(哨). He said there are several successful Search and Rescue cases in which hikers were found alive and rescued when using locators.
Don’t be afraid to turn back
If you are uncomfortable, uncertain or worried about your safety at any time, be honest with yourself. Don’t be afraid to call it a day and turn back.
If worse comes to worst
Stay calm(冷静), get to a safe place and stay there. If you’re lost, walking around is likely to take farther away from the known trail and make you harder to find. If you’re injured, trying to move around may lead to a worse situation. If you brought a whistle, use it to let Search and Rescue hear you.

Going to an art museum can be a fun activity. However, if you’re not sure what the art is about, it may seem boring. Here are many ways to understand different kinds of art.
You don’t need to visit the most famous museum in your area. Instead, have an adult help you look at the websites of a few local museums to see what exhibits(展览) they have. Choose one you’re interested in to visit. For example, if you enjoy taking photos, you might go to a photography exhibit.
If a piece of art (艺术品) catches your eyes, you may start by getting close to the artwork. Think about the story the artwork may be trying to tell. Bring a notebook and pencil with you, so you can make a quick drawing yourself. This way, you might see new details (细节) of it that you didn’t notice before.
If you want to find out more details of the artwork a volunteer at the museum maybe helpful to talk to you about it. Free brochures (手册) may also provide information. You can also ask yourself what the work means to you. For example, maybe the colors in the piece remind you of a place that’s special to you or the emotions you’ve been feeling.
After you leave the museum, consider which pieces of art stay in your mind and why. Talk to a friend who went with you, and ask them about their favorite pieces, too. The way artists make themselves understood through their work is the magic of art really.

Last summer holiday, I wanted to learn how to swim. I asked my father to teach me. I went to the swimming pool with my father. He taught me how to swim. At first, I was afraid of diving in the water. And I felt uncomfortable in the water. But my father always encouraged me. He said he would protect me. Then I began to swim, but I couldn’t swim forward at all. It made me upset. Then my father told me how to move, how to stretch out my hands and legs. Slowly I could move a little. It took me about four hours to learn to swim. I felt quite happy.
From this experience, I have learned a lot. The first step is always the hardest. But if you do it in a proper way and never give up, you will make it.
