West Potomac Park in Washington, DC, lies just west of the National Mall. It is home to some of Washington's most iconic(标志性的) sites. But what is the park's most famous attraction Cherry blossoms.
Thousands of cherry trees bloom around the waters of the Tidal Basin(潮汐湖), which reflect the trees' images. The basin was created in the late 1800s to prevent the Potomac River from flooding. The original cherry trees were a gift from Japan. On March 26, 1912, more than 3,000 cherry trees arrived in Washington. Most were planted around the Tidal Basin. But cherry trees were also planted near the Washington Monument and the White House.
Mike Litterst, a spokesperson for the National Park Service, which maintains West Potomac Park, helps protect the cherry trees. “This wonderful gift is over 100 years old now and, if you will, the gift keeps on giving. You can enjoy its beauty every year.”
The cherry blossoms also serve as a symbol of the beginning of springtime. Every year, Washington celebrates the arrival of spring with a two-week Cherry Blossom Festival. More than 1.5 million people from around the world visit the nation's capital during the festival. They all hope to see the cherry trees at their “peak bloom”,which lasts several days each year. Experts begin making peak bloom predictions in February. Visitors make their travel plans to Washington based on these predictions. Last year, officials correctly predicted the peak bloom six weeks in advance. But this year, unpredictable weather in March in Washington has made guessing it difficult. “Peak bloom” dates have changed many times.
The cherry blossoms have also become a worldwide symbol of Washington itself. Bowen moved to Washington from China seven years ago. He comes to the Cherry Blossom Festival. “It's so famous. Everywhere you can see the Washington DC Cherry Blossom Festival, on like Twitter and Instagram.”

Reflections of Hope in the Snowstorm
I was homesick. My husband, Keith, was attending Utah State University in Logan, Utah.We lived eight hundred miles away from my family in California. We couldn't afford to go home for Christmas. We would just stay home in Hyrum.
Then a most unexpected gift arrived in a Christmas card: enough money for gas for the eight-hundred-mile drive home. We were so excited. Keith took time off from his part-time job and we packed the car. We prayed for safety and good traveling conditions.
We drove all day to the west coast of California. Everything went well and we finally drove up the familiar driveway, honking the horn(按喇叭) to signal our arrival. My family rushed out to greet us, welcoming us with love and Christmas cheer. We celebrated Christmas in my childhood home, all of us together again for the first time in three years. All too soon, the time came for us to return to Utah. My parents gave us some money for gas. With tears and hugs, we started on our way.Hoping to make good time, we drove steadily through the day.
Toward evening, snow flurries swirled(盘旋飞舞)around the car. We stopped just long enough to fuel up the car. With no credit card and very little cash, we did not even consider staying overnight in a motel.
If the road and weather conditions were good, we had about two hours of driving to get to Salt Lake City, where we could just make it to Keith's parents' home that night for a rest. Then we could go on to Hyrum in the morning, and he would make it to work on time. We drove into the darkening night. Snow swirled wildly about the car. Keith was having trouble seeing the road, as the headlights seemed dim. He pulled over, and got out to brush the snow away from them.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Then he climbed back into the driver's seat and told me,“We have only one headlight.”
Hours later, we reached the welcome streetlights and shovelled roads(铲好雪的道路)of Salt Lake City following the truck.

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
Dear Mr. Smith,
I feel it a privilege to invite you to join us in visiting Mount Tai this Saturday.
As is known to all, Mount Tai stands out among the mountains of China, which arouses many poets' inspiration. Once you set foot on the mountain, you will find it particularly attractive. We will meet at the school gate at 7:00 in the morning and set off at 7:20. After enjoying the extremely wonderful sunrise on Sunday morning, we'll return.
Your absence will make us depressed, so inform me at your earliest convenience in case you have other arrangements.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Then he climbed back into the driver's seat and told me, “We have only one headlight.” Full of anxiety, we had no choice but to head slowly through the snowy darkness. We desperately tried to keep our eyes on the white line on the road, but it disappeared quickly in the accumulating snow. We seemed alone on that dark freeway with no traffic in either direction. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a truck appeared, gaining quickly upon us. The driver could have sped ahead. Instead, he stayed right with us, lighting our way. We cautiously crept along, following the truck.
Hours later, we reached the welcome streetlights and shovelled roads(铲好雪的道路) of Salt Lake City following the truck. To signal our gratitude, Keith made our one headlight blink at the truck driver in front of us. Our one headlight had reflected off the back of his truck as he had lighted our way in the dark night. As I gratefully lay down at last that night, the images of the steadily blowing snow drifted before my eyes. More importantly, though, my mind's eye was fixed on the reflection of the truck driver who had stayed with us, giving us hope through the darkest hours of that snow-filled night.
