Not long ago, people could only buy organic food in small shops. Today it is common in most major supermarkets. The reason for the increase is that more and more people are demanding food grown without chemicals. Since the 1990s, organic farming production has gone up continuously. This pattern is expected to continue around the globe.
Australia leads the world in land used for organic agriculture. It has four times as much land devoted to organic farming as all of Asia. However, most of the land is not very fertile, and it only produces a modest amount of food. Argentina is a distant second, followed by Brazil, the United States and China. In Africa, only a very small amount of land is registered for organic farming. That does not mean Africa relies on chemicals. In fact, many farmers do not use chemicals because they cannot afford them. Yet there are no programmes for these farmers to prove they do not use chemicals. Without these programmes their food can never be proved organic.
India has had the most dramatic recent increase in organic farming. Like many other countries, India sees continual growth in organic food sales around the world. This, of course, leads to growth in profits. Sales of organic food were more than doubled from 2000 to 2005. Like India, many countries are trying to increase commercial organic farming to get a share of the sales. This has led to criticism. Some people believe that organic farming should not just be about making money. They think the goal is to help the environment. Others say organic farming will not continue if it is not profitable. They say that people should be able to make money while providing healthy food for mankind.

B.People do not want to eat food with chemicals in it.
C.Organic farming is growing around the world.

A.More and more people demand chemicals to grow food.
B.Profits from organic farming help make approved programmes.
C.There are fewer chemicals available to the human beings.
D.Organic food is good for the Earth and human beings.
3.From the passage, it can be said that .
A.India uses the least land for organic farming
B.the US is the fourth largest organic farming country
C.Brazil uses less land for organic farming than China
D.China and India have the same amount of organic farmland
4.What can be inferred from the passage
A.People who eat food with chemicals have a shorter lifespan.
B.India will soon become the largest country of growing organic food.
C.More countries will farm organically as the environment gets worse.

Tomato plants are adaptable to less-than-optimal conditions, but meeting their preferred conditions yields the juiciest and most delicious fruit.
Light. 1 In extremely hot conditions, the morning sun and afternoon shade are sufficient. Although the plants can grow in mainly shady areas, the production of fruit will be severely limited.
Soil and water. Tomato plants grow best when they have fertile soil and consistent moisture (水分). If the rainfall is less than 25.4 millimeters per week, you need to water them yourself. 2 Placing much around your tomato plants discourages weeds, maintains soil moisture, and prevents the rain from splashing the soil with diseases onto the leaves. Aim for a 3- to 4-inch-thick layer of the organic covering, such as straw, chopped leaves or finely shredded wood chips.
Temperature and humidity (湿度). 3 Wait until the soil warms in spring before setting out plants. Tomato plants grow well when the temperature is about 25℃. Although they love the sun, when the temperature rises above 40℃, they will stop growing. Tomatoes like a relatively high humidity level of 65 percent to 85 percent. Levels higher than this range negatively affect the plants.
4 Tomato plants grow best when fertilized at two specific times during the growing season: right after planting and just before the fruit develops. Apply balanced liquid plant food to them.
Pruning (打杈). Tomato plants don't have to be pruned. However, removing any side shoot(侧枝) growing between the main stem and a branch is a good idea. 5
A.Fertilizer.
B.The planting area.
C.Tomatoes are warm-weather fans.
D.In general, tomato plants require the full sun.
E.However, to prevent diseases, avoid wetting the leaves.
F.To make them grow better, water them as often as you can.
G.They can influence the growth of main branches growing fruit.

When I was a boy growing up, I cannot once ever remember either my mom or my grandmother wasting food. Anything we didn't eat at one meal was 1 , stored, and served as leftovers later on. I can remember my grandmother making a huge pot of brown beans with a large cake of cornbread. We would all eat until we were 2 but there were always about half of the beans 3 . A few days later Grandmother would take those 4 out of the refrigerator, boil pasta(意大利面食), add parsley(欧芹) and 5 them all together into a delicious meal. And I also remember that when I 6 my mom fry bacon for us in the mornings, she would always take the butter and carefully pour it into a container. Then she would 7 it to flavour so many other dishes.
I learned their 8 well and after I grew up I tried to never waste food myself. I always 9 the week's meals ahead of time and only bought what was on my shopping 10 so nothing went to waste. Every meal went into our stomachs and any leftovers were later eaten by either myself, my boys, or my dogs. To me throwing food in the trash was just 11 . All the work it took to grow it, harvest it, and prepare it needed to be 12 and not wasted.
I learned something else over the years, however: When it comes to 13 there are no leftovers. Each moment that you don't live is 14 forever. Life cannot be saved. Life cannot be 15 . Life has to be lived, TODAY!

Part 2 Learning About Language &Using Language
Ⅰ.1.expands 2.chemical 3.celebrities 4.urban
投炸弹”,the library和bomb之间为被动关系,所以用被动语态,the library为单数形式,故填was bombed。
It is suggested that...; It is reported that...; It is assumed that...
That a substance which is left in food could get into the human body while the person is eating may be possible.,所以that引导的从句是句子真正的主语,空处应用it作形式主语,且位于句首,首字母应大写,故填It。
whether...or... 故填Whether。
故填has。
1.It is apparent/obvious that 2.When the meeting will be held 3.what we can do 4.What we should know 5.It is suggested that;should be put off 6.Why she didn't take part in 7.It is a fact that
Para.
Para.
Para.
根据第一段第三句“The reason for the increase is that more and more people are demanding food grown without chemicals.”
根据第二段第一句“Australia leads the world in land used for organic agriculture.”和第四句“Argentina is a distant second, followed by Brazil, the United States and China.”
根据第一段以及最后一段第五句“Like India, many countries are trying to increase commercial organic farming to get a share of the sales.”

根据设空处前的“Light(光线).”
上句“If the rainfall is less than 25.4 millimeters per week, you need to water them yourself.”
根据段首提到的“温度和湿度”以及下文的“Wait until the soil warms in spring”和“Tomato plants grow well when the temperature is about 25℃.”
4.A 主旨句。 故A选项“Fertilizer(肥料).”

1.C 根据下文“stored, and served as leftovers later on”可知,此处表示把剩菜“保存”起来。
2.B 根据“We would all eat”和“but there were always about half of the beans”可知,此处描述吃饭的情节,结合选项可知full符合语境,指一直吃到“饱”,但是还会有一半左右的豆子剩下。
pick out精心挑选;be left over剩下,残留;make use of利用;be fed up with厌倦。故选B项。
4.D 根据上文“Anything we didn't eat at one meal was...and served as leftovers later on.”和“there were always about half of the beans”可知,吃饭剩下的东西后面会再吃,所以此处指从冰箱里拿出“豆子”。
5.C 根据下文“all together into a delicious meal”可知,祖母把豆子、欧芹和意大利面食“混合”到一起,做成美味的一餐。
6.A 根据下文“my mom fry bacon...pour it into a container”可知,这是描述妈妈做饭的动作,所以此处指“看”妈妈煎培根,小心地把黄油倒到一个容器里。故选A项。
7.D 根据“to flavour so many other dishes”可知,此处指“用”它给很多菜调味。
8.C 根据下文“after I grew up I tried to never waste food myself”可知,作者长大后也不浪费食物,很好地学习了家人这种节约食物的“经验”。
9.A 根据“ahead of time and only bought what...so nothing went to waste”可知,为了不浪费任何东西,作者会提前“计划”好一周的饮食。 故选A项。
11.A 根据上文“Every meal went into our stomachs and any leftovers were later eaten by either myself, my boys, or my dogs.” 故选A项。
13.A 根据下文“Life cannot be saved.” 故选A项。
14.B 根据下文“Life cannot be saved.”
15.C 根据下文“Life has to be lived, TODAY!”可知,此处和上文“Life cannot be saved.”
容器 4.ahead of time提前 5.harvest v.
