I first realized that plastic was a serious matter for our planet during my travel in Western Australia. One day about 12 years ago, I stopped at a supermarket along the Coral Bay coast to buy some groceries. But the lady at the counter told me that the supermarket didn t sell any shopping bags to prevent plastic going into the ocean and help preserve the endangered turtles (海龟) living in that area. After a first reaction of surprise, I gathered all purchases in my arms and left, reflecting on what I had been told.
The experience in that trip made me more conscious of my impact and pushed me to adopt various habits to travel and live more sustainable. For example, I always carried a cotton bag when I went shopping.
My travel to Indonesia was another life-changing experience that strengthened my determination to turn to a zero-waste lifestyle. In Indonesia, finding safe drinkable water was always a challenge, so I traveled with my water bottle, managing to avoid almost entirely the use of plastic during my trip.
However, I was seriously struck by my stay on the Libaran Island, where a sustainable turtle conservation project was launched 10 years ago. Despite the big efforts by the project staff and the community at cleaning up the beaches and creatively reusing plastic, the shore was washed daily with tons of plastic coming from the tides. Walking on a carpet of plastic that almost prevented me from seeing the beach underneath was quite shocking.
Facing this global issue in person, I felt a sense of sadness and anger that soon turned into determination: to do as much as possible to reduce plastic in my life. Sometimes we might feel helpless in front of big problems, but we should be aware that small changes could actually make a difference step by step!

A.Cut back on travel. B.Shop less frequently.
C.Lead a green life. D.Purify drinking water.
3.What do we know about the project in Paragraph 4
A.It had no clear goal. B.It didn t work out very well.
C.It met the islanders needs. D.It aimed to prevent turtle attacks.
4.What does the author think of the plastic problem
A.It is permanent. B.It is manageable.
C.It is easy to solve. D.It is lacking in attention.

The grizzly bear (灰熊) is one of the many impressive and beautiful animals that can be found in Yellowstone National Park. Grizzlies hibernate (冬眠) during the winter, and this is when the baby bears are born. Consider it the chance of a lifetime if you can see a grizzly bear on your visit to the park, since these animals are not commonly seen by visitors.
Grizzlies in Yellowstone, usually weighing as much as 350-600 pounds, are omnivorous, feeding on other animals, pine nuts, grass, roots, and some fruits as well. They even eat dead bodies of some animals.
Although the snow is still deep in the park during March, mild sunny days become common. It is the time of year when the grizzlies of Yellowstone begin to get out of their hibernation places in search of water and food. Spring is also the time of year when bear mothers introduce their newborn babies to the outside world. A mother grizzly can be extremely dangerous. It is very important to remember that bears will defend the young bears from any danger.
In an effort to reduce the probability of a human-bear chance meeting, within Yellowstone National Park, certain areas that have higher degrees of bear activity are closed to off-road human activity in spring.
When you visit Yellowstone, stop by the visitor center in Mammoth, where the park will provide you with more specific information on bear activity at any given time.
The best way to avoid a bear attack is to take protective measures. First, always respect any closure sign for both your safety and the benefit of the bears. Second, always remember to make a noise to let any bear in the area know of your presence. If a bear is aware of your presence, it will usually leave the area immediately. However, if you disturb a bear, the chances of an attack are much greater.
The sense of smell for bears is among the best in the animal world. Another rule to remember is that when camping, hang your food from a tree 100 yards away from your camp. Never store food in your tent or close to where you will be sleeping.
5.Which word can best describe your chance to see a grizzly bear at Yellowstone
A.Fortunate. B.Frightening. C.Hopeful. D.Regretful.
6.What does the writer use the underlined word “omnivorous” to describe in the second paragraph
A.The speed of attack. B.The animal species.
C.The massive body size. D.The food variety.
7.What is the best suggestion for you when visiting the park
A.Keep quiet when visiting the park. B.Hang food away from your camps.
C.Touch the lovely baby bears softly. D.Feed some food to the baby bears.
8.What is the writer s purpose of writing the passage
A.To introduce the grizzly. B.To protect the grizzly bear.
C.To avoid a possible attack. D.To make an advertisement.

protect...from...
故填is called。
a large group of意为“一大群”,后跟名词复数。故填a。
fail to do sth. 故填to address。
故填with。
故填their。
改变;变换 3.as usual 照常 4.appeal to 呼吁 5.efficiently adv.
It warns that the world will face “untold human suffering” if we do not make deep and lasting shifts in human activities that influence climate change.
Ⅲ.A
根据第四段中“Despite the big efforts by the project staff and the community at cleaning up the beaches and creatively reusing plastic, the shore was washed daily with tons of plastic coming from the tides.(尽管项目工作人员和社区在清理海滩和创造性地重复利用塑料方面做出了巨大努力,但海岸每天都被潮汐带来的成吨的塑料冲刷着。)”
根据最后一段中作者面对这个全球问题的情感变化:a sense of sadness and anger→determination: to do as much as possible to reduce plastic in my life→feel helpless in front of big problems→be aware that small changes could actually make a difference step by step可推知,作者认为塑料问题一定是可以解决的。
2.sustainable adj.
根据第一段中的“Consider it the chance of a lifetime if you can see a grizzly bear on your visit to the park, since these animals are not commonly seen by visitors.” 故选A。
根据画线词后的“feeding on other animals, pine nuts, grass, roots, and some fruits as well. They even eat dead bodies of some animals.”
易错归因 本题易根据画线词前边的“weighing as much as 350-600 pounds”而错选C项。“usually weighing as much as 350-600 pounds”是“Grizzlies”的定语,与“omnivorous”没有直接联系,“omnivorous”后边的“feeding on other animals, pine nuts, grass, roots, and some fruits as well”才是对“omnivorous”的解释,且文中没有明确说灰熊的体形庞大,故排除C项。
根据第七段中的“Another rule to remember is that when camping, hang your food from a tree 100 yards away from your camp.”
文章的前三段介绍了灰熊的生活习性;第四、五、六、七段尤其是第六段中的“The best way to avoid a bear attack is to take protective measures.(避免被灰熊袭击的最好办法是采取保护措施。)”
2.mild adj.
When you visit Yellowstone, stop by the visitor center in Mammoth, where the park will provide you with more specific information on bear activity at any given time.
“When you visit Yellowstone”是When引导的时间状语从句;“stop by the visitor center in Mammoth”是祈使句;“where the park will...any given time”是where引导的定语从句,修饰先行词the visitor center in Mammoth。
