A mother of nine who started medical school when her youngest child was 4 years old graduated with her degree and plans to be a neurosurgeon(神经外科医生).
Sarah Merrill, now 41, said her journey to medical school began at age 17. She then met her husband and got married. Merrill first thought about going to school part-time to get a degree, but later she decided to follow her dream of attending medical school. Certainly, it was a challenge. Speaking of her successfully returning to university, Merrill was appreciative of her family. “When I was accepted into Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, we moved from Pennsylvania to Arizona,” said Merrill. “In fact, they volunteered these movements. I know it was tough for all of us.”
Merrill and her children often have “homework parties” where they study for their own courses. Merrill s choice has given a stimulus to her children. Merrill felt touched knowing her 11-year-old daughter wanted to become a surgeon and overhearing her son tell his friends his mom was going to be a cool brain surgeon, though he didn t understand that really.
Merrill s next step into a neurosurgery residency(实习期)will take her into a male-dominated field where only 5% of neurosurgeons are women. Dr. Michele Halyard at Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine said Merrill was known as a focused student. Halyard said, “If you can deal with nine children and keep your reason, the residency should be a piece of cake because no amount of stress will make you fail.”
Merrill had considered choosing a more family-friendly specialty; nevertheless, again she chose to follow her original pursuit. It s the same advice she would give to all, “Set the goal that is what you re really enthusiastic about. If you know what your interest is, focus on the next step. Then you ll get where you want to go.”
1.Why did Merrill speak of their movements
A.To show the support of her family. B.To stress her determination to be a doctor.

2.What does the underlined word “stimulus” mean in Paragraph 3
A.Entertainment. B.Inspiration. C.Commitment. D.Confusion.
3.What do Halyard s words mean in Paragraph 4
A.Merrill will have more stress to handle.
B.Staying focused and sensible is key to success.
C.Being Mom makes Merrill a better doctor.
D.She is confident of Merrill s being a neurosurgeon.
4.What does Merrill suggest at last

C.Being true to your passion. D.Having the courage to dream big.
We all want to be successful. 1 We tend to focus directly on the end goals, failing to realize our big goals are not going to happen overnight. It is worthwhile to celebrate small wins because they give us motivation(动力) to get through difficulties and move forward. Then how to celebrate small wins
Break large goals down into small goals. When faced with a large goal, your mind can slip into the habit of delay. Small goals can help avoid this. 2 Instead, make sure you create small, achievable goals that will allow you to see your progress more clearly. These small successes will help you feel good with each little step.
Reward yourself. 3 It could be anything from treating yourself to your favorite coffee to taking a trip somewhere. Having something to look forward to trains the brain in creating motivation, which can speed up your pace of success.
Don t pressure yourself. Putting strict deadlines on your goals can lead to possible feelings of failure, even when there are small victories along the way. 4 This will increase your happiness and motivation as you celebrate small wins.
Track your progress. Sometimes, you can give up because you are unaware of how close you are to success and forget how much you ve done. Then why not keep a record It will remind you how far you ve come in achieving your goal. 5
In short, small wins make huge successes. Celebrating small wins will make long-term goals easier to achieve in the long run.
A.Be flexible with your time limits.
B.Small wins can actually be easy to ignore.
C.So don t expect to realize your big dream instantly.
D.The negative feelings may slow down your success.
E.Do what you enjoy the most each time you complete a step.
F.But along the journey to success, we can feel upset sometimes.
G.Besides, seeing all the small wins written down can be a reward in itself.

根据画线词后“knowing her 11-year-old daughter...though he didn t understand that really”可知,Merrill 11岁的女儿想成为一名外科医生,她的儿子告诉朋友们他的妈妈会成为一名很酷的神经外科医生。
根据第四段中“If you can deal with nine children and keep your reason, the residency should be a piece of cake because no amount of stress will make you fail.”
根据最后一段中Merrill 说的话“Set the goal that is what you re really enthusiastic about. If you know what your interest is, focus on the next step. Then you ll get where you want to go.(设定一个你真正热衷的目标。如果你知道自己感兴趣的是什么,就专注于下一步。然后你就会到达你想去的地方。)”可知,Merrill 建议坚持自己真正的爱好。故选C。
