Although the piano keys come in black and white, the music they produce is full of color. Chinese pianist Tian Jiaxin explores creative performances and crossover cooperation with traditional Chinese music, with the expectation of bringing the music of the East to the Western world.
Tian attended a regular school instead of studying at a music school in her childhood. This enabled her to absorb China’s rich culture and understand the bigger picture later in her pursuit of a career as a professional pianist. “There’s so much to grasp when explaining a piece. What we’re conveying are the notes, with the culture behind the music for good measure,” Tian said.
As a Chinese pianist, Tian is looking to add more depth to her performances, stressing the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures. “No matter which country I am performing in, I always include Chinese music in my program. With Western pieces, I hope to show the world that a female musician from China can perform the music that they are familiar with and love.” Tian says that she believes her mission is to make China heard on a wider stage.
Tian believes that music is developing over time and that music from different ages has its own unusual meaning. “I’ve found that people’s understanding of Chinese music is often limited to certain pieces like Jasmine Flower,” Tian said. “However, there are so many great pieces of Chinese music that are unacquainted outside of China. So, I always try to feature both the time-honored classics of Chinese music and the newly created pieces,” she added.
“Chinese music has the magic to cause resonance(共鸣) with the audience and convey the various and deep culture of Chinese civilization,” Tian said.

Music is good for health. And drumming may be the best of all. As well as being physically demanding, it requires people to adjust their limbs and to react to outside stimuli, such as what the rest of the band is up to. It is particularly helpful for children who have emotional and behavioral difficulties.
Researchers at the Clem Burke Drumming Project—an organization named after Blondie’s drummer, who was one of its founders—have shown that teaching such children to drum helps them to control their reactions more generally, to focus more effectively on tasks they are given, and to communicate better with other people.
The project’s latest work, led by Cahart of King’s College London, goes a step further. It looks at the neurological(神经系统的) changes which accompany these variations.
Ms. Cahart and her colleagues found 36 autistic(自闭症的)teenagers and divided them into two groups. One had drum lessons twice a week for eight weeks. The other did not. At the beginning and end of the project everyone was asked to stay still for 45 minutes in a machine to see how the activity of their brains had changed. Their behaviour was also recorded.
As expected, most of the drumming group showed positive behavioral changes. And these were indeed reflected in their brains. The machine scans showed that several groups of connections between parts of those brains had strengthened during the experiment. In particular, two regions involved in attention control, formed strong links, separately, with places associated with introspection(内省) and with areas involved in understanding facial expressions.
These changes in the brain thus nicely match the changes in behaviour which learning to drum brings. Not a surprise, perhaps. But a confirmation of drumming’s power to heal.
5.Which is not the benefit of drumming for children who have emotional and behavioral difficulties
A.To be more brilliant and active. B.To control their reactions more generally.
C.To communicate better with other people. D.To focus more effectively on tasks they are given.
6.What was recorded in the process of the project
A.The way and frequency of drumming.
B.The teenagers’ attention control on drumming.
C.The teenagers’ emotion and their behaviour.
D.Activity of the teenagers’ brains and their behaviour.
7.What are the main changes in the brain caused by drumming
A.Places associated with introspection are more active.
B.Connections between parts of brains are strengthened.
C.Regions involved in attention control become stronger.
D.Changes in the brain cannot match the changes in behaviour.
8.What is this article mainly about
A.The way of keeping healthy.
B.The healing effect of drumming.
C.The relationship between the brain and behaviour.
D.The relationship between drumming and brain changes.

故选A。

故选A。
通读全文,尤其根据第一段中的“Music is good for health. And drumming may be the best of all.”和最后一段中的“But a confirmation of drumming’s power to heal.”

Researchers have shown是主句的主语和谓语;“named after...founders”是过去分词短语作后置定语,修饰organization,其中“who was...founders”是who引导的定语从句,修饰先行词Blondie’s drummer;“that teaching...other people”是that引导的宾语从句,作have shown的宾语,其中“teaching such children to drum”是动名词短语作主语;由and连接的三个并列的动词不定式短语“to control...generally”“to focus...given”和“to communicate...people”作宾语补足语,“they are given”是省略引导词的定语从句,修饰tasks。
