教学目标
In this period, you will ·acquire some strategies of building up your vocabulary. ·have a better knowledge of the problems and strategies in intercultural communication.
教学内容
教学重点: The teacher helps the students learn and consolidate the usage of key words in this unit. 教学难点: The teacher helps the students acquire strategies of building up vocabulary.
教学过程
1.Warming-up Look and say. Use words to describe pictures. 2.Building-up vocabulary Activity 1. Think of a word that best fits each definition. ·The teacher stresses synonyms in the definitions. ·Pair work: One student writes down definitions of some new words in this unit. The other tries to guess the words. Activity 2. Complete the sentences with the correct forms of the words in the brackets. ·The teacher asks students to decide the function of the words before filling in the blanks. ·Students learn about suffixes to change verbs into nouns Activity 3. Complete the sentences with the correct forms of the words from the unit. ·The teacher instructs students to analyse why the answers are needed. ·Students try giving definitions to the phrases “culture shock”and “comfort zone”.Students realize the importance of stepping out of comfort zone. Activity 4. Read a story. Complete the passage with the correct forms of the words. ·Students read the story and get the main idea. ·Students complete the passage. The teacher checks the answer after students check with partners. ·Students list lexical chunks describing experience of studying overseas. ·The teacher stresses the importance of lexical chunks. Summary: The teacher gets students to summarize the strategies that they have learned in the activities. Extended Learning and consolidation ·Watch a video about culture shock. Students take notes of words for symptoms of culture shock. The teacher presents mind-map to show symptoms of culture shock. ·Read a short passage about the four stages of culture shock. Make choices to complete it. ·Group work: discuss and share in a group of four. Students play s role in the group discussion. Students discuss what we could do to overcome culture shock if we were to study overseas. Student A: the presenter to share your group’s ideas Student B: the recorder to list your group’s ideas Student C: the organizer to start the discussion Student D: the time-keeper ·Presentation. The presenters share their ideas with the whole class. The teacher offers more ideas about how to overcome culture shock. Assignment: Make up stories about your experience in a new culture with the following lexical chunks for next day’s presentation.
