教学目标 在本课学习结束时,学生能够: 感知与了解亚马逊雨林的地理特征、重要性及其面临的威胁; 了解文章结构,理解数字、衔接词在说明文当中的作用,提高说明文语篇分析能力; 描述亚马逊雨林面临的威胁,思考如何阻止人们破坏亚马逊雨林; 写一条呼吁人们保护亚马逊雨林的标语,树立保护树木、爱护森林的意识。
教学内容 分析 本课时的教学内容选自沪教版英语教材七年级下册Unit 4 Save the trees的More practice板块的文章:The Amazon rainforest。 【What】 本文是一篇“人与自然”主题语境下的文章,主要介绍了亚马逊雨林的地理特征、重要性及其面临的威胁,呼吁人们保护亚马逊雨林。 【Why】 本文能够帮助学生感知与了解亚马逊雨林的地理特征、重要性及其面临的威胁,激发学生热爱大自然的情感,培养学生保护树木、爱护森林的意识。 【How】 本文是一篇说明文,全文共有3个段落,第一段简单介绍了亚马逊雨林的地理特征;第二段强调了亚马逊雨林对于生态环境的重要性,并指出由于人类砍伐树木,亚马逊雨林正面临着极大的威胁;最后,作者呼吁人们保护亚马逊雨林。用语言上看,作者通过five and a half million, nine, thousands of等数词增强了文章的可靠性和感染力;使用代词和衔接词增强了文章的逻辑性和连贯性,如:it, this, because, however, because of, as a result等;运用了现在进行时来描述亚马逊雨林的现状,引发读者对亚马逊雨林生态环境的关注。
学情分析 本课时是本单元的第四课时,在前三个课时当中,学生已基本掌握本单元中与树木和环境保护有关的重要词汇,对树木的作用有了一定的了解,初步认识到了树木的重要性。学生能够通过速读、寻读了解亚马逊雨林的地理特征、重要性、面临的威胁。但由于亚马逊雨林离学生的生活遥远,学生基本没有去过亚马逊雨林,难以与作者对亚马逊雨林的担忧产生共鸣。此外,学生对语篇的结构、连贯、衔接等方面知识较为欠缺,对说明文的语言特征还不太了解,需要教师进一步地引导。
教学重难点 【重点】利用说明文的结构特征和语言特征来分析文章,引导学生了解亚马逊雨林的地理特征、重要性、面临的威胁以及作者的呼吁。 【难点】通过问题驱动、多模态辅助材料以及篇章的语言特征来激发学生对亚马逊雨林的关注,激发学生热爱大自然的情感,培养学生保护树木、热爱森林的意识。
教学策略 采用任务型教学法、问题驱动、启发式教学法、多模态教学法。
前置作业 通过到图书馆查阅书籍资料或网络搜索等方式收集了解关于亚马逊雨林的相关知识,课前2分钟进行亚马逊雨林知识小测试。
教学环节 教与学活动(师生活动) 设计意图
Step 1 (Lead-in) Activity 1: Complete a quiz Ss complete a quiz about some facts of the Amazon rainforest. Activate Ss’ existing knowledge about the Amazon rainforest; arouse Ss’ interest in the Amazon rainforest.
Step 2 (Pre-reading) Activity 2: Brainstorming Ss brainstorm aspects that can be included in a passage about the Amazon rainforest. Create reading expectations.
Step 3 (While-reading) Activity 3: Skim and summarize T asks Ss to skim the passage and decide the text type of the text. T asks Ss to find out what aspects are mentioned about the Amazon rainforest and complete the mind map. Identify the genre and the structure of the text to prepare Ss for retrieving the basic information of the text.
Activity 4: Read and think T asks Ss to scan the first paragraph and complete the notes. According to a map, T guides Ss to figure out the nine countries that the Amazon rainforest spreads across. pay attention to the numbers in the passage and asks Ss to answer the question: Can we remove the numbers in the passage Why T asks Ss to read the second paragraph and answer the following questions: Why is the Amazon rainforest very important Is the Amazon rainforest safe now What happen to the Amazon rainforest What does “This” refer to What is the result of deforestation T guides Ss to pay attention to the linking words and asks Ss to answer the question: Can we remove the linking words in the passage Why T asks Ss to read the third paragraph and answer one question: What is the purpose of the passage Retrieve information about the Amazon rainforest, including its geographical features, its importance, the threats to the Amazon rainforest and the purpose of the passage; guide Ss to understand the functions of numbers and linking words in the passage; develop Ss’ ability to make inferences.
Step 4 (Post-reading) Activity 5: Watch and discuss T plays a video clip about the Amazon rainforest. Ss describe the problems of the Amazon rainforest with some pictures and words from the video clip. Ss discuss how to stop people from destroying the Amazon rainforest. Ss write a slogan in groups of four to help protect the Amazon rainforest. Develop Ss’ ability to describe environmental problems; develop Ss’ critical thinking ability; develop Ss’ analytical ability; develop Ss’ creative thinking.
Step 5 (Summary) T makes a summary by a slogan to raise Ss’ awareness of protecting trees. Raise Ss’ awareness of protecting trees.
Homework 【Option 1】Make a poster to call on people to protect the Amazon rainforest. It must include four kinds of key information: ①geographical features of the Amazon rainforest; ②the importance of the Amazon rainforest; ③the threats to the Amazon rainforest; ④your hope to protect the Amazon rainforest. 【Option 2】Search the Internet and figure out the environmental problems in China. Write a short passage to call on people to solve the problems and protect the environment. It must include four kinds of key information: ①geographical features; ②the importance; ③the threats; ④your hope.
