In recent years, little free libraries of all shapes and sizes have popped up. Often built by community members, they could be found on street corners and the sidewalks across the United States, hoping to share their book collections with their neighbors. Minneapolis, Minnesota, even hosted the first Little Free Library Festival, where book fans came together to promote literacy (读写能力) in their communities.
For the most part, little free libraries have more in common with book sharing shelves in hotels, local parks, coffee shops and other public spaces than the traditional public library. Based on the rule of “take a book, leave a book,” these little libraries can take many forms from birdhouse-like wooden structures to redesigned newspaper selling machines, Robert Wirsing writes for the Bronx Times.
The little free library organization began when a citizen of Hudson, Wisconsin, named Todd Bol built a little one-room schoolhouse, filled it with books and placed it in his front yard to honor his mother who passed away in 2009. Together with a local educator named Rick Brooks, the two began placing little free libraries across Wisconsin and sharing the idea with people across the country.
“Something we are eager for in this information age is that connection between people,” Bol tells Margret Aldrich for Book Riot. “I want to show how Little Free Library is about readers inspiring readers. It goes on and on.”
While Little Free Libraries seem like a harmless means to promote literacy by sharing books with neighbors, a few of the roadside landing libraries have caused minor legal problems. officials in Los Angeles and Shreveport, Louisiana, have told some citizens that their homemade libraries broke city roles and that they would have to remove them to avoid being fined.
Still, little free libraries have been well accepted by their communities. For anyone interested in making their own at home, the organization has posted helpful tips and guides for building the little book lending boxes in their neighborhoods.
24. What can we know about the little free libraries in America
A. They are state-owned. B. They are popular nationally.
C. They are set up to sell books. D. They help those with no books to read.
25. What is a common character of little free libraries
A. They lie in many public places.
B. They share a large collection of books.
C. They compete with traditional public libraries.
D. They exist mainly in the form of wooden houses.
26. What is Todd Bol’s primary aim of building a library
A. To remember his dead mother.
B. To help people form a habit of reading.
C. To set an example to other communities.
D. To share his knowledge, with other citizens.
27. What does Todd Bol think of the little free libraries
A. They cause minor legal problems.
B. They should continue to exist.
C. They mean a lot to community members.
D. They should be supported by the government.

For many Americans, home is where the heart is. However, some people are forced to leave their homes because of rising costs.
“Hawaii is everything. Of course, it’s very beautiful. The weather is beautiful, but you only get a deeper connection to a place when it’s connected to you,” said Lehua Kalima, who grew up and raised her kids in Hawaii.
Nearly three years ago, Kalima and her husband left the Hawaiian islands for Clark County, Nevada. According to United Van Lines, the US’s largest household goods mover, Clark County has about 20,000 native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. The Kalimas represent some of the 7 million Americans who move to a different state every year.
“You know, we were already working really hard to make ends meet, but with three college tuitions (学费) now to pay, it was almost impossible,” Kalima said.
United Van Lines has long tracked state-to-state migration (移居), as well as the main reasons people move. In 2018, nearly half of the people surveyed said they moved due to changes in employment. Four years later, a third of respondents said employment was the reason they moved. A rising number said they wanted to be close to family, and 8% stated a reason that three years earlier wasn't even on the survey — the improved cost of living.
“If you have roots in a place, you have a relationship with a place, with a piece of land, only then can you really understand what it’s like to have to go away from it,” Kalima said.
Despite missing her home, Kalima looks at the other side of things.
“The things we do in life don’t necessarily keep us in one place. Sometimes they take us to all kinds of different places, but that's necessary because, you know, that'll take us to where we're eventually supposed to be,” Kalima said.
28. What was the Kalimas’ life like before moving to Nevada
A. They had nowhere to live. B. They lived beyond their means.
C. Kalima and her husband lost their jobs. D. Kalima’s children failed to get into college.
29. What do the numbers in paragraph 5 mainly show
A. The effects of state-to-state migration.
B. The change of American family connections.
C. The reasons for people moving to other states.
D. The connection between employment and migration.
30. What feeling did Kalima express in paragraph 6
A. Her pain of being away from home.
B. Her worries about her life in Nevada.
C. Her fear of being misunderstood by others.
D. Her dissatisfaction with new social relationships.
31. What is Kalima’s attitude to life
A. Doubtful. B. Passive. C. Uninterested. D. Positive.
D
Due to social events in recent years, the relationship between social media and teenagers mental health has been under heated discussion.
On Sept 30 a British court decided that content on social media platforms contributed to the depression of 14-year-old Molly Russell. Russell interacted with 2,100 posts related lo pessimistic, self-harm in the six months, leading up to her depression, reported the Observer website.
The connection has also been proved by science. A study in 2019 showed that the frequent use of social media by teenagers can lead to a decrease in their mental health.
So, how can we make sure that teenagers won’t get hurt while using social media Chan, 18, from the University of Macao shared her experience. Chan said that she once came across short videos romanticizing mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. She immediately reported them to the platform.
But she said that the users’ power to regulate videos is still limited. “It is ultimately the responsibility of the social media platforms to filter (过滤) out content that is potentially harmful.” She also noticed that the age of social media users has become increasingly younger. Society should pay attention to this, she said. “Since it’s not possible to cut off access to social media for younger users, why not introduce a ‘supervision mode’ with which parents can regulate the content to be viewed by teenagers beforehand ” she said.
Wu Chengyu, 18, studies at Tianjin Experimental High School. He said that several years ago he came across a game that tricks teenagers to self-abuse and depression. He quickly chose to ignore it so he wouldn’t be influenced. This is the same way he reacts when exposed to negative content on social media.
In Wu’s opinion, teenagers today should improve their social media literacy (素养), telling real from fake and good from bad. “Also, everyone can be a content creator on social media.” he said, “We should all strengthen our awareness of ethics”.
32. What led to Russell’s depression according to a British court
A. Her interaction with others online.
B. Negative information on social media platforms.
C. Short videos she watched on the Internet.
D. Her addiction to online posts.
33. Which of the following statements does Chan probably agree with
A. The number of younger Social media users should be limited.
B. Parents should monitor the content to be viewed by teenagers in advance.
C. A supervision mode ought to be introduced by parents.
D. It is the responsibility of the society to romanticize mental illnesses.
34. Who should be ultimately responsible for removing negative content according to Chan
A. Parents. B. Social media platforms
C. Content creators. D. Social media platforms.
35. What does Wu suggest teenagers should do
A. Use social media wisely. B. Reduce social media usage.
C. Stay away from online games. D. Learn more about social media.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Have you ever tried reading music If so, you probably noticed a lot of new symbols and words. Maybe you saw the word presto at the beginning. Perhaps you read piano and crescendo throughout the song. 36 Or maybe you didn’t — if you knew how to read Italian!
Italian is sometimes called the language that sings. 37 However, the link between Italian and music is deeper than that. Today, musical vocabulary is full of Italian words.
However, it wasn’t always so. Thousands of years ago, people didn’t write music. Instead, they passed songs down orally and taught each other to play them on instruments. 38 Later, people in Spain and Italy began putting music to paper for use in church choirs (教堂唱诗班).
Around 1000 CE, an Italian man named Guido d’ Arezzo came up with the four-lined staff (四线谱), which eventually led to the development of the five-lined staff still used in modern music today. Over the next few centuries, many of the people writing music were Italian. Of course, people in other parts of the world were writing music, too. In an effort to standardize written music, many of them used Italian terms. 39 For example, Beethoven sometimes used German words instead of Italian. Claude Debussy used French in “Clair de Lune”.
40 You might already be familiar with some terms! One example is tempo — the speed of a piece of music. Markings in written music tell the player when the music should be adagio (slow), or allegro (fast). The dynamics, or volume, of a piece of music might begin with piano (soft), then crescendo (get louder) and finally fortissimo (very loud).
A. Many think it sounds musical.
B. Others wrote music in their own languages.
C. Still, Italian is the primary language used in music.
D. You probably needed to ask your teacher what these words meant.
E. Learning to read music is an important part of practicing those skills.
F. People who write music even have ways to communicate techniques.
G. Ancient people in Babylonia, Greece, and Rome were some of the earliest to write music.

(Last Tuesday afternoon witnessed a chorus competition for the senior one students in the school hall with the aim of promoting Chinese culture and providing patriotism education.)
Nearly all of the senior one students took an active part in it, all of whom showed great talents. They presented many different classic red songs and the audience even sang with them together. They had such a fierce competition that it left a rather difficult job to the judges. The perfect performance was a feast for the ears of teachers and students, who thought highly of them.
In all, not only did the competition provide a platform for students to show their talents, but also enriched their school life.

I'd also like to thank all the great teachers in our wonderful art department, of course. None of these would have been possible without all of your hard work You're truly encouraging to all of us. But our students are the ones I'd like to thank most of all. You went above and beyond working tirelessly in order to share your talent through the beautiful works. 'm very excited to see all of your paintings and drawings. But before we go in, let’s express our thanks to our excellent students again.
