Unit 2 Hobbies can make you grow as a person
Ⅰ. Analysis of the teaching materials and student
Analysis of the teaching materials:
This unit is about how hobbies effect our daily life, after learning this unit, students are able to talk about their hobbies with friends.
Analysis of the student:
Students are in grade 8, they are about 14 years old. They can understand and speak some English, still need to improve their abilities.
Ⅱ. Teaching objectives:
Knowledge objective:
Students can learn some new words and expression: skill, activity, sailing, come out, result, as a result…
Ability objectives:
Students can develop their reading ability by fast reading and careful reading practice and improve their speaking skill by discuss in groups.
Emotion objective:
Students are able to talk about their hobbies and become more interesting in creating hobbies.
Ⅲ. Teaching key point and difficult point:
Teaching key points:
How to help students learn the new words and expression, and help students improve their reading skills.
Teaching difficult points:
How to lead students to develop hobbies.
Ⅳ. Teaching Methods:
Pre-reading, While-reading, Post-reading
Ⅴ. Teaching aids:
A multimedia, PPT, blackboard and some chalks
Ⅵ. Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Warming up (2 mins)
Present a question and ask two students to answer it.
Question: Do you have a hobby What is it
(Justification: Lead students into this topic.)
Step 2 Pre-reading (10 mins)
Work in pairs, talk about their hobbies and use the words in the text book from activity 1 and 2. After discussing ask some pairs to share their opinions.
(Justification:discussing can get students’ mind closer to the text.)
Step 3 while-reading (20 mins)
Fast reading: Ask students to find out the main idea of the passage.
Careful reading: Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions:
What advantages can hobbies bring to young people
What hobbies does David have
When did David become a successful writer
Will David’s new books be successful
(Justification: Through fast reading and careful reading, students can get the ability of reading a passage.)
Step 4 Post-reading (8 mins)
Ask students to do the activity 4 on the textbook, and then discuss in pairs.
(Justification: Students can make clear about how to use the new words.)
Step 5 Summary and homework (5 mins)
Summary: Make a conclusion of how hobbies influence our life, encourage students to create a hobby of their own.
Homework: Listen to the tape and read the text aloud, copy the new words and phrase on exercise book.
(Justification: Homework can make students be familiar with the new words and phrase we’ve learned in the class. )
