【原文】I started my own company, CyberEdit, when I was a freshman. Most students have to write essays, and I aimed to provide computer editing services for them. During one summer vacation, I worked for an Internet company in the daytime and spent another four hours working on my website in the evening. It’s not easy to develop a business. If you hope to be financially independent, you must do something while you are young and you can work long hours. For a long time, I edited nearly ten documents a night and spent fifty hours a week doing this. It was hard and I hired my first four employees later. The next year, I turned down my summer job at a big investment bank and spent the vacation expanding CyberEdit. In December, the magazine Wired contacted me and asked me to write an article about my life. After the article appeared in March, many investors began to contact me. In June, one of them decided to invest a large sum of money in my company — over one million dollars in funding! My advice to young people who consider starting a company is: Do it now! Don’t delay starting it until you’ve finished school or had some “real-world experience”.
第二部分 阅读(共两节, 满分50分)

If you were wondering whether there were any quiet, peaceful, undeveloped beaches left in Mykonos, you have found it. Featuring a wild landscape on a rocky bay in the northern part of the island, Fokos Beach is one of Mykonos’ “hidden beaches”, free of crowds. It’s faced by a taverna (小餐馆), but is usually nearly deserted, with only a few sunbathers. This is the top destination for those looking for a peaceful beach and natural beauty.
There are better beaches for swimming — here the sea can be quite rough and it’s often windy. It is, however, a popular spot for riding, so don’t be surprised if you see horses coming down the road towards the beach.
How to Get to Fokos Beach
There are no buses to Fokos, so you’ll need to rent a car. It’s about 13km and a 20-minute drive from Mykonos Town, partly through a dirt road before you reach the beach.
Where to stay in Fokos Beach
There are no hotels in Fokos, but it’s close enough to the many choices in the center of the island:
·Hotel Adonis: Just a short walk from the Fabrika bus terminal (终点站), with different types of classically-styled rooms.
·Leto Hotel: Facing the sea in the old port, with spacious rooms and an open-air restaurant.
·Mykonos Theoxenia Boutique Hotel: Next to the windmills, with a wonderful garden and pool area.
·Mykonos Town Suites: A combination of traditional Cycladic style and contemporary design, with apartments where you can prepare your meals.
21.What do we know about Fokos beach
A.It’s accessible by bus.
B.It’s off the beaten track.
C.It’s famous for local snacks.
D.It’s too rocky for sunbathing.
22.What is a favored activity on Fokos Beach
A.Swimming. B.Surfing.
C.Horse riding. D.Mountain climbing.
23.Which hotel best suits a guest passionate about cooking
A.Hotel Adonis.
B.Leto Hotel.
C.Mykonos Theoxenia Boutique Hotel.
D.Mykonos Town Suites.

Tilly Williams, a Parkside primary student, has broken a world distance running record, beating other girls who were eight years older than her to run 5,000m in just 17 minutes and 22. 7 seconds.
Tilly started running just three years ago and has already shot straight to the top. When some of her friends told her about the international record, she decided to give it a go while competing at the SA State Championships.
“Some of my running friends told me about it and I was like, wow, it would be crazy if I got that and here I am,” Tilly said. “I am the kind of person who really enjoys the challenge,” she added, “I really love surfing and I love bike riding and hiking - all different kinds of adventures and sports.”
She started running in 2021 when she joined her school’s cross-country team. Since then, she has run two to three times a week with her dad, Mark Williams, or at the Adelaide Harriers Athletics Club.
Tilly said, “It’s good knowing that my family’s on my side and my friends are on my side as well. Usually I just go out and run with my running group and with my dad as well because it is like a bond.”
Tilly doesn’t follow a strict diet, so her favourite food is still on the menu - her dad’s home-cooked pizza. “I do love pepperoni pizza,” she said.
“You never think that anyone’s going to get a world record at this age, at any age really. It’s just surreal,” Mr. Williams said, “It’s very important to recognise these achievements, but also to stay very much grounded and just enjoy the other pursuits that she likes. She loves her running, but she does so many other things as well and I think it’s really important that the focus is on life rather than just one thing.”
24.What do we know about Tilly
A.She prefers surfing to bike riding.
B.She failed at the SA State Championships.
C.She holds the 5000m record of her age.
D.She’s lucky to have her dad as her coach.
25.What might Williams agree
A.We’d better concentrate on a single thing.
B.Tilly deserves the reputation and praise.
C.Tilly should make efforts to keep her record.
D.People should consider needs more than hobbies.
26.Which of the following can best describe Tilly
A.Gifted and persevering. B.Optimistic and careful.
C.Determined and humorous. D.Dynamic and warm-hearted.
27.Where can we find this text
A.www. . B.www..
C.www. . D.www..

【导语】本文是记叙文,叙述了一名来自Parkside的天才女孩在家人、朋友等多方支持下,艰苦训练,打破5000米长跑世界纪录的故事。
24.细节理解题。根据第一段“Tilly Williams, a Parkside primary student, has broken a world distance running record, beating other girls who were eight years older than her to run 5,000m in just 17 minutes and 22. 7 seconds.(蒂莉·威廉姆斯是帕克赛德的一名小学生,她以17分22.7秒的成绩击败了比她大8岁的其他女孩,跑完5000米,打破了世界长跑纪录)”可知,Tilly打破了5000米长跑的世界纪录,即,她是当前同年龄段的5000m纪录保持者,故选C。
25.推理判断题。根据最后一段““You never think that anyone’s going to get a world record at this age, at any age really. It’s just surreal,” Mr. Williams said. (“你永远不会认为任何人在这个年龄,在任何年龄都能打破世界纪录。这太超现实了,”威廉姆斯说)”及“It’s very important to recognise these achievements, but also to stay very much grounded and just enjoy the other pursuits that she likes.(认可这些成就非常重要,但也要脚踏实地,享受她喜欢的其他追求)”可知,Williams认为在女儿这样小的年纪就能创下世界纪录是无法想象的、超现实的,必须承认达成这样的成就很困难,换言之,他觉得女儿实至名归,故选B。
26.推理判断题。根据第二段第一句“Tilly started running just three years ago and has already shot straight to the top.(蒂莉三年前才开始跑步,现在已经一马当先了)”和第四段第二句“Since then, she has run two to three times a week with her dad, Mark Williams, or at the Adelaide Harriers Athletics Club.(从那以后,她每周会和父亲马克·威廉姆斯一起跑步两到三次,或者在阿德莱德哈里斯田径俱乐部跑步)”可知,Tilly才训练了三年就达到了世界巅峰水平,由此看出她天赋异禀;她每周都会坚持和爸爸一起跑步或者去俱乐部进行2~3次训练,由此看出她坚持不懈,故选A。
27.推理判断题。根据第一段“Tilly Williams, a Parkside primary student, has broken a world distance running record, beating other girls who were eight years older than her to run 5,000m in just 17 minutes and 22. 7 seconds.(蒂莉·威廉姆斯是帕克赛德的一名小学生,她以17分22.7秒的成绩击败了比她大8岁的其他女孩,跑完5000米,打破了世界长跑纪录)”及全文内容可知,文章讲述了天才女孩在家人、朋友等多方支持下,艰苦训练,打破5000米长跑世界纪录的故事,所以最有可能在儿童新闻这个网站找到这篇文章,故选C。

NASA (美国航空航天局) is looking for a new way to get its precious Mars samples back to the earth. Those samples are being collected by the Perseverance rover in Mars’Jezero Crater, which hosted a lake and a river delta billions of years ago. Getting the samples is one of NASA’s top science goals. Studying unspoiled Red Planet material in well-equipped labs around the world could reveal key insights into Mars, including whether it has ever hosted life.
The agency has had a Mars sample return (MSR) structure in place for some time now, but repeated delays and cost overruns seem to have made the original plan hard to realize. “The bottom line is that $ 11 billion is too much, and not returning samples until 2040 is unacceptably too long,” NASA chief Bill Nelson said during a call with reporters. That price tag is the upper-end estimate calculated by an independent review board. A team from within NASA analyzed those September results, determining that the agency won’t be able to get Perseverance’s samples back to Earth until 2040 with the established structure.
NASA is now seeking a new way forward in an attempt to cut costs and get the samples here sooner. Saving money will aid other agency science projects, and speeding up the timeline could help the agency plan out manned Mars trips.
The wheels on the new plan are already turning. NASA is asking the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California — its lead facility for robotic planetary exploration — and other agency research centers for innovative MSR ideas. NASA will hold an industry day and accept proposals. The goal is to have enough information on hand by late fall or early winter to begin charting a new path forward on MSR. MSR remains a top priority for NASA, despite the difficulty of the task. After all, no country has ever launched a rocket from the surface of another planet, though three countries have launched from the moon.
“I think it’s fair to say that we are committed to bring back the samples, for this is an important national objective.” Nelson said.
28.What’s the main function of paragraph 2
A.To draw readers’ attention to this topic.
B.To warn the readers of a possible failure.
C.To stress the importance of Mars samples.
D.To introduce some background information.
29.What does Bill Nelson think of the original MSR structure
A.Efficient. B.Impractical. C.Sensible. D.Conservative.
30.Why is NASA seeking a new way to get its Mars samples back to Earth
A.The current method is costly and takes too long.
B.The current method is too risky and unreliable.
C.It takes a sophisticated container to convey the samples.
D.The samples have been spoiled and need to be handled differently.
31.What can be the best title for the text
A.NASA’s huge project
B.MSR, a promising plan
C.NASA’s Mars sample return plan calls for overall adjustments
D.NASA’s campaign to return Mars Samples to Earth is on hold

Many of us would probably say that lying is a matter of moral choice. But in his philosophy book A History of Lying, Juan Jacinto Mu oz-Rengel takes us in a different direction, which he calls “non-moral”.
He takes several persuasive steps to redirect us. First, he asks us to take into account how we represent reality to ourselves, and how we see it in relation to the self. This requires us to employ awareness of not just the world but also the concepts to describe it to ourselves and others. Moreover, “the reality” we believe we see and know might be an illusion (幻觉). So how do we even know when we’re telling the truth, and when we’re lying about it
His second step is to say that our sense of personal identity should be treated with doubt, since we’re frequently wrong about our own experiences. If continuing personal identity might be an illusion, then the reality we see might be an illusion as well. But we choose to take part like actors in this illusion.
From here Mu oz-Rengel takes a third step towards what he calls “evolutionary epistemology (认识论)”, which shows everything we claim to know should be evaluated through an evolutionary angle. For instance, to stay safe from natural enemies or hunt for food, some animals evolve into being capable of mixing with the surroundings to delude others. The thing is, the species continues through natural selection processes. Equally, we grow myths to explain the natural world and our place in it… As individuals and as societies, various forms of lies are built into our DNA.
The arguments in this book are strongly made, but more than a few of Mu oz-Rengel’s viewpoints need far more evidence as support. But anyhow, in separating the discussion from conventional morality-based studies of lying, he has produced a lively and distinctive work. But still, there is one thing to remember — we perhaps will be liars, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t ask ourselves when it is acceptable to lie and when it isn’t.
32.What can be implied about Mu oz-Rengel’s first persuasive step
A.We can hardly control what we do in real life.
B.We are able to tell illusions from reality.
C.We choose to lie or not in different cases.
D.We tend to see reality in a subjective way.
33.Why does Mu oz-Rengel give the examples in Paragraph 4
A.To make a comparison. B.To clarify a concept.
C.To raise a problem. D.To change a topic.
34.What does the underlined word “delude” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Surprise. B.Trick. C.Amuse. D.Protect.
35.How does the author find the arguments in this book
A.One-sided but convincing. B.Conventional but impressive.
C.Poorly-based but novel. D.Serious but understandable.
根据第二段第二句到第四句“First, he asks us to take into account how we represent reality to ourselves, and how we see it in relation to the self. This requires us to employ awareness of not just the world but also the concepts to describe it to ourselves and others. Joe was an old man aged 75. His children grew up and moved to different cities in pursuit of a good career and future. He lived in a small village carrying the memories of his deceased wife. Joe had 4 grandchildren and they used to visit him during their holidays. And it was the vacation time and Joe was eagerly waiting for his grandchildren. He was making preparations for their arrival, cleaning the house, mowing (修剪) the lawn, rearranging the household items and buying snacks and dresses for the children, etc.
However, in the busy arrangements, he lost his favorite watch, which was given by his late wife when their first child was born. Joe treasured the watch and it became his only companion (伴侣) after his wife’s death. He didn’t realize that he had lost the watch and received the kids happily at home. It was only the next day when he was about to take a bath that he remembered the watch was missing. He was shocked and very upset. His grandchildren asked him why he was so sad and what troubled him.
Joe said, “Dear children, I lost the most precious watch I have ever had in my life. It was gifted by your grandma and I lost it while cleaning the house. I feel like I’m missing my heart.” Joe was in tears and the children promised him that they would find the watch for him.
One granddaughter, Mary, asked, “Grandpa, do you remember when you saw the watch last before you lost it ” Joe said, “I guess when I was cleaning the barn.”
The children immediately began to search for the watch in the barn. The barn was full of waste materials, books, broken furniture, etc. They searched for more than three hours with the help of Joe, but failed.

After a fruitless search for the watch, Joe gave up. He was so tired and disappointed and asked the children to stop searching. The kids were also very sad and they comforted the grandfather. At that time, Mary moved to the barn again, and the little girl requested others not to follow her and to remain silent. While the others were a little confused, they still followed what she said.
Mary stayed alone in the barn for about 10 minutes quietly and then rushed to her grandfather. Yes, she got the watch and happily gave it to Joe. Seeing his watch again, Joe was so surprised and asked how she was able to find it. The little girl replied, “I sat there without making a noise and the barn was so silent. After a few minutes, I heard the ‘tick tick’ sound and found the watch.” Joe hugged her tightly and thanked the little girl again and again.

Maximalism, as a design aesthetic (审美), is rooted in cultural shifts throughout history. In the mid-20th century, minimalism dominated social aesthetic, which laid great emphasis on the idea of less was more. In the late 1960s, postmodernism challenged the ideas of minimalism and embraced a more playful approach to design. 36 During the 1980s, maximalism reached its peak and continued to evolve in the following decades.
Today, maximalism has become a noticeable design style characterized by celebrating individuality, embracing the unexpected, and creating st unning and expressive spaces. 37 They hold that maximalism can make homes blossom into spaces that radiate with warmth and joy, and reflect the personalities and tastes of everyone in the house.
38 Even hallways can be turned into gallery-like spaces with unique art collections, vibrant wall coverings that enhance visual impact. Mirrors, if strategically placed, can add to the pleasant feel of a space that could otherwise be a boring passage.
The living room unfolds with patterns and decor items, creating a dynamic and cozy atmosphere which is all about individuality and comfort. 39 A combination of decoration items such as sculptures, vases, and books are also on display.
Breaking free from regular kitchen aesthetics, maximalism transforms kitchens into exciting and inspiring environments. Using unexpected kitchen lighting options can add some home atmosphere. 40

The power of silence
