Advances in digital technology ,including computers, smartphones, and mobile apps, have changed the way people communicate and learn at home and in classrooms around the world. Now,an international team of researchers are working to ensure that this changing educational landscape will help to support literacy(读写能力) in deaf children.“We're using digital technology to encourage children to learn," said Leandro Florez-Aristizabal.
Leandro and his co-workers are working to design and test a storytelling app for sign language-speaking deaf children. They began by designing a series of black and white cards describing images. A single student would change the order of the cards he or she chose and then tell the story to the rest of the class through sign language.
The researchers conducted a case study with 5th graders. One thing that attracted the researchers as they watched the performances was the response of other students in the classroom. As one student was chosen to change the order of the cards, other students got up and began offering suggestions about a general storyline.
Then, the researchers added details and colors to the cards and tested those out with kids. Finally, they changed the colorful cards to digital form. And the kids appeared to love it. The researchers reported that children's motivation(积极性) increased when technology was part of the activity. They had more impressive performances.
While their original target audience at the moment are deaf children,Leandro says the app might also be used as a means for hearing kids to learn sign language.“We started with deafness, but we don't want to stop there," Leandro said. “We want to invite other researchers to join us on this journey and to help us develop improved functions to serve other disabilities and other educational goals. In this way, we're trying to fill the gap with them. Finally, we want to forget about disabilities and think about different abilities."
8.How did Leandro and his co workers carry out their study
A. By testing deaf children's learning habits. B. By inviting students to design images.
C. By introducing a new sign language. D.By taking a storytelling approach.
9. What interested the researchers about the students in the study
A.They were full of curiosity. B. They were good storytellers.
C.They actively helped each other. D.They had an excellent memory.
10.What did the researchers find out in the study
A. Kids preferred to play fun games before class.
B. Deaf kids could communicate with others well.
C.Digital technology benefited the kids' performances
D.Digital technology took kids' attention away from their studies.
11. What does Leandro mainly want to express in the last paragraph
A. He plans to widen the usage of the app.
B. He is faced with new challenges in the research.
C. He expects other researchers to play a leading role.
D.He calls on people to care about disabled children.

It’s said that about one third of the world's citizens live in substandard housing. But researchers have created free plans now available online for building houses using pre-made parts that fit together perfectly, which could help solve this housing problem.
The world population is expected to grow to more than 8 billion by 2030,and the housing situation in city is already a huge problem. Building new homes in the traditional way still takes weeks or months.
In a London neighborhood, a group of volunteers are constructing a house made of pre-made plywood panels(预制胶合板面板)and parts, the so-called WikiHouse. All parts were precisely cut in a Computer Numerical Control, or CNC machine, following a free plan downloaded from the Internet.
Founder of the UK-based on WikiHouse Foundation, architectural designer Alastair Parvin, said this could be the solution for affordable housing. WikiHouse is essentially a series of technologies we're developing aimed at simplifying the process of making really sustainable high-performance houses to a point where almost anyone can do it.
Precise cutting allows a perfect fit for all parts, which speeds up the process of assembly (装配).No special tools are required. The WikiHouse was built in 10 days for exhibition purposes. Then, it was taken apart and reassembled elsewhere for permanent use.
“Open-source(开源)software is now really established; it drives a lot of the software we use,” Parvin said. “What's happening now is that that's coming into the world of physical things, so we're effectively building a kind of Wikipedia for physical material.”
Parvin said the project is in its early stages, with limited availability. But he said he expects it to grow as more people start showing interest in houses whose assembly requires no special skills.
12.What does the author think of the housing situation in urban centers
A. Serious. B. Acceptable. C. Good. D.Common.
13. Why is Alastair Parvin developing Wiki- House
A. Because it looks more beautiful.
B. Because it saves the trouble of designing.
C. Because workers are fond of the work.
D. Because it makes the process of making houses simple.
14. Which is one of the advantages of the WikiHouse
A. It is solid. B. It takes up little room.
C. It saves time. D. It is environmentally friendly.
15. Judging from the last two paragraphs, we know_.
A. Parvin is cautious about using open-source software
B. Parvin thinks WikiHouse technology is mature
C. Parvin is optimistic about the future of WikiHouse
D. Parvin is trying his best to make Wiki-House cheaper

People are taught how to speak, but good sentence structure and a wide range of vocabulary words won't always lead to being understood or understanding others.__16__
The good news is that it's never too late to learn how to communicate more effectively. The first step is to realize you're having communication issues.__17__The following is a list of the top three signs that you need to learn healthier communication skills.
You have the same fights over and over.
Your fights are about the same topic again and again. If this is happening, it means you don't yet have the skills to resolve conflicts.__18_The fight may end, but it's only a matter of time before you argue about the same thing again. When you learn how to resolve conflicts, issues don't pile up or become baggage that weighs down your relationship.
__19_
You don't want to fight so you try not to bring up subjects that lead only to pain and disconnection. The problem is that avoiding them leads to pain and disconnection anyway. Unless you learn how to have hard conversations productively, you will get more and more disconnected until your relationship is in danger of ending.
You regularly feel misunderstood or unheard.
No matter how hard you try, you don't feel understood. Perhaps your partner has expressed the same feeling. Over time the disconnected feeling does damage to your relationship. It's important to learn how to communicate in a better way, so that both you and the other person feel heard and understood. __20__To be heard, your partner will need to learn how to listen. For you, to be able to hear your partner, you will need to do the same.
A. You avoid discussing certain topics.
B. You argue with your partners about some issues.
C. If you can't resolve issues, they will continue to show up.
D. This requires more than just speaking to your partner or vice versa.
E. Then, you can learn how to communicate in a more productive way.
F. If you leave conflicts unsettled, you will feel disconnected and lonely.
G. Effective communication requires much more than being able to speak.

Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat, but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked,“Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles ”"Oh, yes... but I don't have money on me...” she replied.
“That's nothing. I'll treat you today," said the man, "Come in.”The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. Jenny thanked the man and started to gobblle (狼吞虎咽) up the delicious food...then cried silently.
“What is the matter with you ”asked the man kindly.
“Nothing, actually I was moved by your kindness!”said Jenny as she wiped her tears,“Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so mean and cruel!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled“Girl, do you really think so I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times that she has cooked for you Have you expressed your thanks to her ”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered her mother's familiar face and weathered hands.“Why did I not think of that A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.”

It's great to hear from you. Speaking of the ways of traveling, I prefer group travel to solo travel.
In my opinion, there are three significant benefits of group travel. First of all, traveling with some companions is safer than traveling alone. In a group, everyone takes care of each other and I feel much safer. Secondly, when traveling with a group, I can save some travel expenses. In addition, it's an opportunity to improve social skills, make new friends, and become a better team player.
Therefore, with these aspects considered, I like group travel better. Yours,
Li Hua
作文二
Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. When she knocked at the door, she found the door was locked and that her mother wasn't at home. Tired and sad, she sat down in front of the house. “Where on earth could my mother be ” she wondered. “Was she still angry with me ” Again, the scene of the quarrel turned up in her mind. She remembered her rudeness to her mother. Realizing that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her, she felt rather ashamed, and tears began to roll down her cheeks.
A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. She raised her head and saw the familiar face of her mother. “Here you come! I've been hunting for you," Mum said, tired and relieved. Jenny couldn't help throwing herself into her mother's arms. “Mum, I'm so sorry and thank you for all you have done for me. " She expressed her sincere apology and great gratitude.Hearing this, her mother smiled, patting her back gently.
