音节
音节是词的构成单位，是说话时最小的语音片段。单词的音节可以在语音上划分，也可以在拼写上划分。
在一个单词中，有几个音素（不是元音字母）就有几个音节。
单音节词：I had play boat
双音节词: no-tice fa-ther tea-cher
多音节词：fa-mi-ly af-ter-noon u-ni-ver-si-ty

1. 开音节
(1) 以发音的元音字母结尾的音节是绝对开音节 “辅音字母 + 元音字母”

(2) 以辅音字母（r除外） + 不发音的e的音节成为相对开音节
（辅音字母 + 元音字母 + 辅音字母 + e）

2. 闭音节
单词中只含一个元音字母，结构为“（辅音字母） + 元音字母 + 辅音字母”

词重音
任何一个单词在单独念时至少有一个音节要读得重而强，清晰而响亮，这种现象称为单词重音。单词重音可分为：1.主要重音 (符号 “____”) 2.次要重音 (符号 “____”) 3.并列重音。如：watermelon /'w t mel n/ Chinese /,t ai'ni:z/
