教学重点 1.本课时单词、短语及句型。 2.掌握找出每段主题句的阅读方法。

教 学 过 程 Step 1 Warming up and Lead-in 1. Greet as usual. 2. Show Ss a chant. Bed, bed, make the bed. Floor, floor, sweep the floor. Dishes, dishes, do the dishes. Clothes, clothes, fold the clothes. Rubbish, rubbish, take out the rubbish. Chores, chores, I like doing chores. ... Step 2 Pre-reading 1.Let Ss discuss the questions with their partners. (1) What do you often do to help your parents at home (2) Do you think that kids should help out with chores at home Example: A: What do you often do to help your parents at home B: I often sweep the floor,do the dishes and make the bed. A: You are a good boy/girl. Thank you! Do you think kids should help out with chores at home B: Yes,I think so. ... 2.Ask some pairs to tell their results. Step 3 While-reading Fast reading Work on 2b 1.Teach the new words. 2.The Sunday Mail magazine invited parents to write about whether they think young people should do chores at home. Skim the letters in 2b. Which one agrees and which one disagrees 3.Check the answers. Answers: (1) Mr. Smith agrees young people should do chores at home. (2) Ms. Miller disagrees young people should do chores at home. Careful reading Work on 2c and 2d 1.Read the passage. According to Ms. Miller and Mr. Smith, what are the pros and cons about kids doing chores Fill in the chart in 2c. 2.Check the answers. Answers: ProsConsDoing chores helps to develop children’s independence. Doing chores teaches them how to look after themselves.Housework is a waste of children’s time. Children have enough stress from school. Children should spend their time on schoolwork in order to get good grades and get into a good university. Parents’ job is to provide a clean and comfortable environment at home for their kids.

Step 5 Language points 1.waste ① n. 浪费 常用于固定结构a waste of time,意为“浪费时间”。 ② v. 浪费 waste time意为“浪费时间”。 【例句】 He thinks doing chores is a waste of time. 他认为做家务就是浪费时间。 Don’t waste time. 不要浪费时间。 2. spend +时间+ on sth./doing sth. 花费时间做某事 3. in order to 为了,目的是 引导目的状语从句 【例句】 In order to catch up with the others, the girl works even harder. 为了赶上其他人,那个女孩学习更努力了。 4. There’s no need for sb. to do sth. 对某人来说没有必要做某事。 5. provide 提供 provide sth. for sb. /provide sb. with sth. 为某人提供某物 【例句】 The movie theater provides us with good service. = The movie theater provides good service for us. 这家影剧院为我们提供好的服务。 6. mind + doing sth. 介意做某事 7. It’s + adj. + for sb. to do sth. 代词it仅为形式上的主语,真正的主语是to do sth.。 【例句】 It’s necessary for you to explain things clearly. 对你来说,把事情解释清楚是必要的。 8. have no idea 不知道,不了解 相当于don’t know 9. take care of 照顾,照料 take good care of 好好照顾 后面可接名词或代词作宾语 take care of = look after = care for。 10.the +比较级...,the +比较级... 越……,越…… 【例句】 The more he explained, the better we understood. 他解释得越多,我们就理解得越好。 Step 6 Summary Today we have learned two letters and several reading strategies. You should know how to skim. And you should know how to use the phrases “in order to, depend on, provide sb. with sth./ provide sth. for sb. , take care of”. Try to use them when reading.
