suggest是动词, 意为“建议; 提议”。其主要用法如下:
(1)suggest+名词/代词(+to sb.) 如:
We suggested a piece of advice to Kate.

(2)suggest doing sth. 如:
He suggested going to Qingdao for vacation.
他提议去青岛度假。
(3)suggest (that)+主语+(should) do sth. 如:
I suggest(that) we (should) start early.

本想知道购物中心是否有一家银行。
此句包含一个由if引导的宾语从句。if意为“是否”, 可用whether替换。
当我们把一个一般疑问句变为宾语从句时, 应注意以下两点:
(1)把原来的一般疑问句语序变成陈述句语序。
(2)在主句和从句之间加上引导词if或whether。如:
The girl asked me,“Could you give me a hand ”
→The girl asked me if / whether I could give her a hand.
情形 例句
引导主语从句、表语从句或同位语从句时 The question is whether he can take our advice.
引导的从句作介词的宾语时 Everything depends on whether it’s fine tomorrow.
从句后面直接跟有or not时 I wonder whether or not he will come.
作discuss的宾语时 We discussed whether we should make a change in our plan.
温馨提示 if多用于口语中, whether多用于书面语和一些比较正式的场合, 一般情况下二者可以互换, 但是下列情况只用whether而不用if引导从句。
拓展 if 还可引导条件状语从句, 意为“如果”。如:
I will go to the park if I have time tomorrow.
如果明天我有空, 我就去公园。
巧记whether与if的异同
主从表从同位从, if不用whether用;
discuss和介词后, whether引导宾语从;
不定式、or not紧跟走, whether独能显神通;
宾从如是否定句, if发挥其功用;
避免歧义要慎重, 其他情况可换用。
