(2024·山东·三模)According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), hundreds of marine (海洋的) species across the world come under endangered and critically endangered categories. Some of the endangered and recognizable marine species are named here.
Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle
The Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle, also known as the Atlantic Ridley Sea Turtle, is endangered as the rarest and smallest sea turtle.
Distributed throughout the Gulf of Mexico and U.S. Atlantic seaboard, they gather off the coast in northeastern Mexico and come ashore in large groups to lay eggs every year. As marine reptiles (爬行动物), they are threatened by oil spills, lack of food and marine pollution.
Vaquita
As a rare marine mammal, Vaquita is on the edge of extinction only a half-century after its first sighting.
Extensive fishing in the Gulf of California has endangered this marine species, resulting in a gradual drop in population since the 1940s. According to reports, there are only a dozen of these marine mammals left in the world since the percentage of decline in their population was as much as 90% since 2011.
Whale
Fin Whale is the second-largest mammal on the planet after Blue Whale and it is also a victim of hunting. According to estimates, the global population of Fin Whale ranges from below 100,000 to around 119,000.
Humpback Whale, another whale species, has also been listed as an endangered marine species. Before the introduction of the whaling moratorium (暂停) in 1966, the species was hunted for its fur, while the population dropped by 90%. Currently, around 2,500 Humpback Whales survive in the world.
Hawaiian Monk Seal
A native of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, Hawaiian Monk Seal is one of the earless seals who live on warm beaches, unlike other seals.
According to recent research, only 1,400 Hawaiian Monk Seals remain on the Islands. These seals are
mainly threatened by predators like tiger sharks. Besides, other reasons like habitat loss and food limitation also contribute to their critical situation.
1.Why do Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles land on the beach in large groups
A.To nest. B.To reproduce. C.To avoid attack. D.To hunt foods.
2.What is the major threat to Hawaiian Monk Seal
A.Global warming. B.Lack of food. C.Natural enemies. D.Habitat pollution.
3.Which of the following is the most critically endangered species

(2024·江西宜春·模拟预测)A fisherman from Portland, Maine, the US, caught a very rare bright blue lobster (龙虾) off the coast of Maine but chose to set it free back into the ocean. The photo of the blue lobster was shared by tech enterpriser Lars-Johan Larsson. “This blue lobster was caught off the coast of Portland yesterday and returned
to the water to continue to grow. Blue lobsters are one in two million,” he wrote.
While the shells of lobsters are generally red or brown in color, the blue shell is a result of gene mutation (基因突变), which causes the lobster to produce more of a particular protein than other lobsters, leading to the rare blue color, as reported by the Toronto Sun.
Yellow, orange and crystal-colored lobsters are considered even rarer than bright blue ones. According to the Lobster Institute, yellow lobsters account for about one in 30 million of the total population. Two fishermen in Dorset caught a crystal-colored lobster in 2011.
“Whatever the odds of catching different-colored lobsters, there’s no denying that bright blue ones are truly beautiful creatures,” said Rob Bayer, executive director of the University of Maine Lobster Institute. “They might not be the most unusual, but they’re undoubtedly the best to look at.”
It’s become something of a trend for restaurants to spare blue lobsters. Austin Hopley, a chef at “The Hare” in Rochdale, the UK, made the news for sparing a bright blue lobster. He gave it to Sea Life in Manchester, as reported by the BBC.
“Now it’s there for people to enjoy,” said Hopley. “I felt responsible. Something so rare didn’t require a place on the menu. Every species deserves a fair chance at survival.”
Expert Brendan Malone from Sea Life said, “It is certainly an extraordinary find and worth saving to try to educate the public about these amazing creatures in the ecosystem.”
4.What is the root cause for the color of blue lobsters
A.Gene variation. B.Adaptation failure.
C.A specific protein. D.A mix of red and brown.
5.What does Rob Bayer think of blue lobsters
A.They are the rarest. B.They are easy to catch.
C.They are delicious to eat. D.They are most beautiful.
6.Why was Hopley unwilling to cook the blue lobster
A.It wouldn’t make a good dish.
B.He wanted to follow the trend.
C.He took on responsibility to save it.
D.It would bring him fame and profits.
7.Which can serve as the best title
A.Blue Lobsters Rebound Suddenly
B.Chefs Take Action to Protect Lobsters
C.Gene Mutation Has an Effect on Lobsters
D.Man Catches a “One in Two Million” Blue Lobster
【答案】4.A 5.D 6.C 7.D
根据第二段“While the shells of lobsters are generally red or brown in color, the blue shell is a result of gene mutation (基因突变), which causes the lobster to produce more of a particular protein than other lobsters, leading to the rare blue color, as reported by the Toronto Sun.(据《多伦多太阳报》报道,虽然龙虾的外壳通常是红色或棕色的,但蓝色外壳是基因突变的结果,这种基因突变导致龙虾比其他龙虾产生更多的特定蛋白质,从而导致罕见的蓝色)”可知,蓝色龙虾颜色的根本原因是基因变异。故选A项。
根据第四段““Whatever the odds of catching different-colored lobsters, there’s no denying that bright blue ones are truly beautiful creatures,” said Rob Bayer, executive director of the University of Maine Lobster Institute. “They might not be the most unusual, but they’re undoubtedly the best to look at.”(缅因大学龙虾研究所的执行主任Rob Bayer说:“无论捕获不同颜色龙虾的几率有多大,不可否认的是,明亮的蓝色龙虾确实是美丽的生物。”“它们可能不是最不寻常的,但它们无疑是最好看的。”)”可知,Rob Bayer认为蓝龙虾是最美丽的。故选D选项。
6.推理判断题。根据第六段““Now it’s there for people to enjoy,” said Hopley. “I felt responsible. Something so rare didn’t require a place on the menu. Every species deserves a fair chance at survival.”(“现在人们可以欣赏它了,”霍普利说。“我觉得自己有责任。这么稀有的东西根本不需要出现在菜单上。每个物种都应该有公平的生存机会。”)”可知,霍普利不愿意烹饪这种蓝龙虾的原因是他承担起了拯救它的责任。故选C项。
7.主旨大意题。根据第一段“A fisherman from Portland, Maine, the US, caught a very rare bright blue lobster (龙虾) off the coast of Maine but chose to set it free back into the ocean. The photo of the blue lobster was shared by tech enterpriser Lars-Johan Larsson. “This blue lobster was caught off the coast of Portland yesterday and returned to the water to continue to grow. Blue lobsters are one in two million,” he wrote.(美国缅因州波特兰市的一名渔民在缅因州海岸捕获了一只非常罕见的亮蓝色龙虾,但他选择将其放归大海。这只蓝色龙虾的照片是由科技企业家拉斯-约翰·拉尔森分享的。“这只蓝龙虾昨天在波特兰海岸被捕获,并被放回水中继续生长。蓝龙虾是两百万分之一,”他写道)”可知,本文主要讲述了一位来自美国缅因州波特兰市的渔民在缅因州海岸捕
获了一只非常罕见的蓝龙虾,但他选择将其放回大海。由此可知,D项“Man Catches a “One in Two Million” Blue Lobster(男子捕获了一只“二百万分之一”的蓝龙虾)”适合作本文最佳标题。故选D项。

(2024·浙江绍兴·二模)Do you see a bird right now Can you hear one chirping If so, you might be getting a mental health boost. A study recently published in the journal Science found that being in the presence of birds made people feel more positive.
Andrea Mechelli, a psychologist at King’s College London, found himself studying the natural world accidentally. Initially he was searching for answers to why people who lived in cities seemed to tend to suffer mental illness, particularly psychosis. In 2015, he created the smartphone app Urban Mind to search for patterns in users’ environments. “Our first finding is that nature has a very powerful effect,” says Mechelli. He and his colleagues then wondered if some aspects of nature were more beneficial than others. They turned to birds for their ubiquity (普遍存在) in rural and urban environments.
Their latest study included 1,292 participants mainly in the United Kingdom and Europe. For two weeks, participants were prompted to fill out a questionnaire about their surrounding environment and their mental state three times a day. Mechelli performed a statistical analysis that found an obvious improvement in wellbeing when birds were present, even when eliminating other factors like the presence of trees or waterways. The mental health benefit was true both for people who disclosed a depression diagnosis and those without any diagnosed mental health conditions.
Peter James, an environmental health scientist at Harvard, would like to see more data. He found that environmental health studies like these lack diversity. Yet, a psychologist at Trent University in Canada, Lisa Nisbet says, “This kind of study helps us understand how people’s everyday experience with specific elements of nature, such as birds, can be restorative.”
Appreciating birds seems to be a promising avenue for nature-based health and wellbeing interventions. At Mechelli’s clinical practice in London, he focuses on early intervention therapies. He suggests his patients go for walks to observe the trees and plants growing in the city, and the bird fluttering by from branch to branch. “It has no side effects,” he says. “It’s something they could try, and they have nothing to lose.”
8.What can be inferred about Andrea Mechelli’s study
A.Diverse environments are rewarding only for depressed people.
B.The presence of birds is beneficial to mental health.
C.Peter James thought highly of Mechelli’s research.
D.It was originally targeted at the research on birds.
9.What does the underlined word “eliminating” mean in paragraph 3
A.Defeating. B.Identifying.
C.Considering. D.Removing.
10.Which of the following statement might Andrea Mechelli agree with
A.Early intervention shows no significance.
B.The access to nature helps people be more confident.
C.Nature-based intervention functions well in mental health.
D.People’s daily experience is connected with mental problems.
11.What’s the best title of the passage
A.Use Nature in Supporting Mental Health B.Get Outside for a Quicker Mental Recovery
C.Analyze Data to Make a Good Treatment Plan D.Turn to Birds for Better Understandings of Humans
【答案】8.B 9.D 10.C 11.A
根据第三段中“Mechelli performed a statistical analysis that found an obvious improvement in wellbeing when birds were present(Mechelli进行了一项统计分析,发现有鸟在场时,幸福感有明显改善)”以及“ The mental health benefit was true both for people who disclosed a depression diagnosis and those without any diagnosed mental health conditions.(对于那些被诊断出患有抑郁症的人和那些没有任何被诊断出患有精神疾病的人来说,心理健康方面的好处都是真实的。)”
根据划线所在句子“Mechelli performed a statistical analysis that found an obvious improvement in wellbeing when birds were present, even when eliminating other factors like the presence of trees or waterways.(Mechelli进行了一项统计分析,发现有鸟类在场时,即使eliminating树木或水道等其他因素,人们的幸福感也会有明显改善)”中的“when birds were present”以及“even when”可知,此处应是表达“只要有鸟类在场,即使排除树木或水道等其他因素,人们的幸福感也会有明显改善”符合语境,划线词eliminating应是“排除”之意,和D项“Removing(排除,去除)”意思一致。故选D项。
根据最后一段“Appreciating birds seems to be a promising avenue for nature-based health and wellbeing interventions. At Mechelli’s clinical practice in London, he focuses on early intervention therapies. He
suggests his patients go for walks to observe the trees and plants growing in the city, and the bird fluttering by from branch to branch. “It has no side effects,” he says. “It’s something they could try, and they have nothing to lose.”(欣赏鸟类似乎是一种基于自然的健康和福祉干预的有希望的途径。
根据第一段“Do you see a bird right now Can you hear one chirping If so, you might be getting a mental health boost. A study recently published in the journal Science found that being in the presence of birds made people feel more positive.(你现在看到一只鸟了吗 你能听到其中一只啾啾吗 如果是这样,你可能会得到心理健康的促进。最近发表在《科学》杂志上的一项研究发现,有鸟在身边会让人感觉更积极)”以及纵观全文可知,本文主要讲述了与鸟儿在一起会让人感觉更加积极,所以A项“Use Nature in Supporting Mental Health(利用自然支持心理健康)”是本文最好的标题。故选A项。

(2024·四川·模拟预测)In an era of digital technology, the art of writing by hand has slowly been downgraded to a past entertainment. However, recent research suggests that this physical act is essential to brain health and development, having multiple cognitive (认知的) benefits. It is time we should reevaluate the potential benefits it may have on our mental capacities.
According to numerous studies, writing by hand stimulates more complex and diverse brain connections essential for encoding new information and forming memories. For instance, a recent investigation found that brain connectivity patterns were far more complicated and widespread for participants who wrote by hand compared to those who typed. Thus, it is clear that handwriting has a distinct and significant impact on our brain health.
Handwriting isn’t just good for our brains health—it also has clear, practical benefits. Research has shown that students who take handwritten notes score significantly higher on quizzes, demonstrating improved learning. This extends beyond the classroom too. People who recorded information on paper calendars demonstrated more brain activity and recalled information faster than those who used smartphones. The act of handwriting, therefore, could be a valuable tool for students preparing for exams and adults managing daily tasks.
Despite its clear benefits, handwriting has been on the decline. However, 25states in the US have reintroduced writing back into school curriculums. This is a step in the right direction, as previous research has also
indicated that handwriting is essential in children’s brain development. Preliterate (未识字的) children who wrote by hand demonstrated brain activity in a circuit of the brain used in learning to read, further strengthening the link between handwriting and cognitive development.
It is clear that handwriting is a valuable activity that has the potential to enhance our brain health, learning, memory, and problem-solving skills. As we continue to navigate the digital age, it is important not to overlook the value of this seemingly simple activity. So, the next time you reach for your keyboard, remember the benefits of picking up a pen instead.
12.What do people usually think of handwriting at present
A.It has become an old-fashioned skill. B.It has many cognitive benefits in life.
C.It has been replaced by digital devices. D.It has been a popular entertainment.
13.What does the author mainly show about handwriting in paragraph 3
A.It is beneficial to brain health. B.It helps students score higher on quizzes.
C.It stimulates diverse brain connection. D.It has good effects on learning and memory.
14.Why is previous research mentioned in paragraph 4
A.To make a comparison. B.To add further evidence.
C.To show different opinions. D.To explain the brain activity.
15.What’s the purpose of the passage
A.To illustrate a finding on handwriting. B.To emphasize the importance of handwriting.
C.To show the wide application of handwriting. D.To introduce the artistic value of handwriting.

根据第三段“Handwriting isn’t just good for our brains health—it also has clear, practical benefits. Research has shown that students who take handwritten notes score significantly higher on quizzes, demonstrating improved learning. This extends beyond the classroom too. People who recorded information on paper calendars demonstrated more brain activity and recalled information faster than those who used smartphones.
The act of handwriting, therefore, could be a valuable tool for students preparing for exams and adults managing daily tasks.(手写不仅对我们的大脑健康有好处——它还有明显的、实际的好处。
根据第四段“Despite its clear benefits, handwriting has been on the decline. However, 25states in the US have reintroduced writing back into school curriculums. This is a step in the right direction, as previous research has also indicated that handwriting is essential in children’s brain development. Preliterate (未识字的) children who wrote by hand demonstrated brain activity in a circuit of the brain used in learning to read, further strengthening the link between handwriting and cognitive development.(尽管有明显的好处,但手写一直在走下坡路。

故填where。
故填the。
故填to publicize。

故填be housed。
故填as。
故填but。

Ninny grew up with her grandparents. Her grandmother worked as a housekeeper, and her grandfather was too weak to move. In his wheelchair, Grandfather told her stories about flowers, princesses and sunrises. Those stories always ended with the same message: A simple act of kindness creates an endless ripple (涟漪) that comes back to you.
One day, Ninny was at the supermarket with her grandmother. They only bought the bare minimum. “Oh!” Ninny jumped when she spotted a chocolate cake. She pulled her grandmother’s sleeve. “Grandfather’s birthday is around the corner! Can we please, please, please have it ” The old lady eyed the chocolate cake. There were beautiful decorations on the top with fancy designs on the side. Picking up the cake, Grandmother took a close look at the price and sighed, “Ninny, we can’t afford it. It’s $40!”
Ninny pouted (噘嘴), trying to convince her grandmother. Yet she knew that her grandmother would not bend, even if she begged with her puppy eyes. No matter what, money did not grow on trees. Ninny sighed and turned around. Grandmother gave her a sad smile and turned towards the cashier.
Almost out of nowhere, a man with a 50 dollar bill and the chocolate cake approached her and handed these things to Ninny. “Have them, dear.”
Ninny took a closer look at the man. He was average. Average face, average clothes, and average everything. He was just a random man.
The man bent down and maintained eye contact with Ninny. “Do you know why I’m giving you these ” Ninny shook her head. “When I was a little boy, a man bought me a chocolate cake. He just overheard a conversation I had with my mother. Nothing else. He gave me some money and a small slip of paper. Then he left.” The man reached into his pocket and took out a dog-eared piece of paper. Looking at the words written, Ninny wore a smile on her face, for she was so familiar with the message.

Ninny hugged the dollar bill, cake and the piece of paper to her chest. As they walked back home, she couldn’t help but read the message on the paper again and again: “A simple act of kindness creates an endless ripple that comes back to you.” The stories her grandfather often told her constantly flashed in her mind. She made a silent vow to herself to pass on his kindness and help those in need. When they arrived home, Ninny excitedly narrated the encounter at the supermarket to her grandfather, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Grandfather’s eyes widened, “You won’t believe it!” Grandpa continued in surprise, saying that this piece of paper was given to him by me. “That message, it’s the very same one I’ve been telling you in my stories! The world truly works in mysterious ways, Ninny.” His voice softened as he continued, “It seems our kindness has come full circle.” Yeah, just as the story the grandfather once told, a simple act of kindness creates an endless ripple that comes back to you.

“This blue lobster was caught off the coast of Portland yesterday and returned to the water to continue to grow.
Expert Brendan Malone from Sea Life said, “It is certainly an extraordinary find and worth saving to try to
educate the public about these amazing creatures in the ecosystem.”

For two weeks, participants were prompted to fill out a questionnaire about their surrounding environment and their mental state
three times a day.

9.What does the underlined word “eliminating” mean in paragraph 3
A.Defeating. B.Identifying.
C.Considering. D.Removing.

A.Early intervention shows no significance.
B.The access to nature helps people be more confident.
C.Nature-based intervention functions well in mental health.
D.People’s daily experience is connected with mental problems.
11.What’s the best title of the passage

This is a step in the right direction, as previous research has also indicated that handwriting is essential in children’s brain development.

Yet she knew that her grandmother would not
bend, even if she begged with her puppy eyes.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Ninny hugged the dollar bill, cake and the piece of paper to her chest.
