Today I’m going to talk about New Standard English Book 10 Module 10 Unit 1.The topic is “What did you put in your bag ”
Analysis of the Teaching Material
It’s for the Ss of Grade Five . It’s the last module in this book . The focus of this lesson is to talk about the trip and understand the text deeply . And then make the Ss know how to discuss trip with the question words (what , where , when , who ) and discuss them in two tenses(the Simple Past Tense and the Simple Future Tense) .
Teaching aims
Knowledge aims
Enable the Ss to master the new words : “ticket , leave , toothbrush” and read words : “trip , passport , airport”.
Enable the Ss to master the question words : what , where , when , who and the sentences with these words. And get them to ask and answer freely .
Get the Ss to talk about the trip in two tenses .
Ability aims
Enable the Ss to discuss the trip with the question words in two tenses .
To train the Ss’ ability of working in groups .
Emotion aims
To raise the Ss’ interest in English .
To train their participation in the learning attitude with others.
Teaching key and difficult points
Key points
To master the words and sentences . And make sure that they can use them in real situations.
To get the Ss to talk about the trip.
Difficult points
To get the students to talk about the past trip and how to prepare for a trip.
To compare the two tenses: the Simple Past Tense and the Simple Future Tense.
Analysis of the students
The students of Grade Five have got a foundation of speaking ,listening , reading and writing . And they have learnt the Simple Past Tense and the Simple Future Tense . But because of the characteristic of the grade , they don’t like projecting themselves like the students of junior grade . They don’t like participating in activities . So in my class , I value emotional communication with students . And I design some interesting activities.
Teaching methods
As we know , language is used for communication . So in this lesson , I’ll mainly use the situation teaching method and “Task-based” teaching method . That is to say , I will let the Ss learn English and use English in real situations . Through the review of old knowledge and the introduction of new words ,I’ll present the topic of Daming’s trip . And then I’ll give them some tasks and make some activities to help them get a better understanding of the key structure of the dialogue .
Teaching procedures
I’ll finish this lesson in five steps.
Step 1 Warming up
First , do a free talk . Talking about yesterday and the plan of tomorrow.
Purpose: The Ss can review the tenses first . It makes a preparation for the next teaching . And it can also shorten the distance between the students and me .
Step 2 Presentation
First play a guessing game. Guess what I put in the bag. If they are right , I’ll show them the articles or give it to the student . And teach to read words .
Purpose: To attract their attention and their interest .Bring them into English atmosphere. And review the old words and solve the new words . It’s for the next teaching .
Then show the picture to present the words “airport , trip” . And teach to read . Ask the question : What did he put in his bag
Purpose: To present the text and arouse the students’ curiosity.
Step 3 Text-teaching
First , listen and think over the questions .After that , ask the Ss to answer .
Purpose : Practice their listening skill , make them have a general idea of this text .
Then , write the title on the board . Ask the Ss to ask and answer in pairs using : What did you put in your bag / pencil -box
Purpose :Let the Ss apply their knowledge and help them master better .
Then, listen again , repeat and find “what , where, when ,who” . After that say out the sentences with these four question words . Teach to read and teach the use .Let them try to answer . And then let them say other question words and T writes on the board .Then show two groups of sentences to them , ask them to try to find out the difference . Sum up the rules together . And then get them make sentences with the given words . Such as : what , where , who , how ------yesterday / now / tomorrow .And then do some exercises about question words .
Purpose : Solve the main task of this text . Help them make a summary of the key points . Make more chances for them to speak English and use English . Doing exercises is to check if they master the key points well.
Then listen again and fill in the blanks about the text . And then practice reading the text . Read the text in roles and teach the key points of the text .
Step 4 Consolidation
Talking about the past trip with photos in groups .
Purpose: Practice the key sentences and review the Simple Past Tense . And set off their interest .
Then do a guessing game .Guess the plan of the trip . At last , finish the plan of the trip .
Purpose: It can lighten the difficulty of writing . The Ss can learn while playing . They’ll be very happy . And it can get the best effect.
Step 5 Summary and Homework
Make a summary of the key points they’ve learnt .
Homework ; Write a plan for your trip .
