第一节 (满分15分)
Dear Jack,
Knowing that you have a keen interest in Chinese festival culture, especially the Dragon Boat Festival, it is a great pleasure for me to provide you with some more insights about it.
The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, in memory of the great patriotic poet of ancient China, Qu Yuan. The main customs of the festival include making zongzi, a dish made form sticky rice that is usually wrapped in bamboo leaves into a three-cornered shape, and participating in dragon boat race. These traditions are associated with Qu Yuan's legend. People rowed boats and beat drums to keep evil spirits in the river away from Qu Yuan's body.
I hope that my introduction can be of some help to you!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节:读后续写 (满分25分)
参考答案:
One possible version:
Jane hurried to Tom's room and shared her plan with him. Having learned about the details, Tom volunteered to clean the floor. It took him more than two hours to clean every corner in the house. For the first time, Tom realized how hard it had been for his mother and sister to keep the house clean. While Tom was working, Jane washed the dirty clothes and decorated the room with colorful balloons. When the cake arrived, everything was ready for the big moment.
"Happy birthday, Mum!" Jane and Tom shouted when their mother opened the door. Seeing the beautifully decorated room and the big cake on the table, their mother seemed to be very confused and surprised. After Tom and Jane told her what had happened, she could hardly hide her excitement and hugged them tightly. "It is the best birthday gift I have ever had!" said their mother, who then took out her smartphone and made a video. "We should share this surprise with your father!"

W: That’s really helpful. And what do you remember from your experience playing Bibby in Atlanta
M: There was fear every day at every moment. I remember asking my wife the night before on the phone, and I said, “I don’t even know how loud I’m supposed to talk.”

W: Agreed. We just really worked well with each other. Speaking of these “other places”, how’s your new job
M: Not bad. It’s a new industry. I make good money, and the leaders are nice. But I always have to work overtime to deal with all the tasks.
W: Well, every place has its pluses and minuses. Anyway, enough about work. Should we get some drinks
M: Now you’re talking. I’m in the mood for some coffee.
【点拨】 第16题为推理判断题。根据男士所说的“Now that I’ve worked at other places, I have to say our old team was the best.”和女士所说的“Agreed. We just really worked well with each other.”可知男士现在在其他地方工作了,但觉得还是以前的团队最好,女士也觉得他们以前在一起工作得很好,所以两人是前同事的关系,故选A。

W: I decided to stop shopping online for two months to see how it would affect my personal spending.
In the first week, I found it really hard to refuse the temptation from emails and online photos of new products from some of my favorite shops. Every time I saw something I wanted, I said to myself: Is this something you absolutely need in life And without a doubt, the answer was always no. Once I broke my habit of spending 30 minutes or an hour each night before bed seeing what was for sale online, I was able to focus on activities that were meaningful and didn’t cost me a penny. And once I stopped shopping online, I realized way too much money was going towards clothing and shoes. For example, last month I spent nearly $1,000 on clothing and shoes, and that’s almost one third of my monthly salary! I feel better knowing not only where my money is going, but also that I’m not filling my home with items I don’t need“德化一中、永安一中、漳平一中”三校协作

Time to update that old saying “cold hands, warm heart.” New research shows touching something warm can make you feel and act more warmly toward others.
Yale University scientists did a clever study. They recruited (征募) 41 college students for what they thought was personality research. A lab worker followed each participant up the elevator of Yale's psychology building and casually(不经意地) asked for help holding her cup of coffee--- either hot or iced--- while she recorded the student's name.
Inside the lab, the students read a short description of a fictitious (虚构的) person, and then rated this stranger's personality. Students who had held the hot cup saw the person as more generous, sociable and good-natured than those who had held the cold cup--- all traits that psychologists consider part of a “warm” personality.
Then researchers recruited 53 different students for a second study, having them briefly hold one of those heat or ice pads (护垫) sold in drugstores for treating injuries, supposedly as part of product-testing. Really the test was which gift the students chose as a thank-you for participating: A bottled drink or ice cream for themselves, or one for a friend. Students who held the hot pad were more likely to choose a reward for a friend, while those who held the ice pad were more likely to choose a reward for themselves.
So is the moral of the story to hand out hot drinks when you want to make a good first impression Not quite. The bigger message is that very small cues from our environment can significantly influence behavior and feelings, said lead researcher Dr. Lawrence Williams.
Physical and psychological concepts “are much more closely connected in the mind than we have previously appreciated," said Williams.
The whole concept of social warmth is learned in infancy(婴儿期), Williams said. He pointed to a psychology study that found attachment and affection were more dependent on hugs that happen to be physically warm than on merely ensuring a baby is fed.
As for a practical use for the finding: Those free food samples distributed in grocery stores probably attract more shoppers if they’re warm, advises Williams.
24. What can we learn about the participants in the first experiment
A. They didn't realize when the experiment started.
B. They were interviewed about their personality.
C. They did not meet each other before.
D. They preferred hot to iced coffee.
25.Why were the students asked to hold heat or ice pads in the second study
A. To evaluate their physical condition.
B. To test the medical function of the pads.
C. To assess the impact of receiving rewards on people’s personality.
D. To investigate temperature's effect on people’s psychology and behavior.
26. What did Dr. Lawrence Williams agree with
A. Shops selling warm items tend to earn more.
B. Babies learn about love more from hugs than food.
C. Hot drinks are essential for making a good first impression.
D. People with a warm personality are often physically warmer
27. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. Keep a warm heart in a cold world
B. “Cold hands, warm heart” really is true, scientists find
C. Warm hands lead to warm heart, study shows
D. From the hands to the heart: A self-discovery journey
C
“FIND YOUR PASSION (热爱)! ” This inspiring instruction suggests it’s important to discover what truly excites us in life. But is it good advice
Science tells us that passions are developed. They can be raised through curiosity and repeated practices. Our first interest can be developed into a true passion with positive experiences. But “finding” a passion means that it already exists and is waiting to be discovered. This misunderstanding can hold people back. Fortunately, our latest research shows there are ways to encourage a more open outlook about it.
To study these ideas, we use a framework of “fixed” and “growth” mindsets: fixed mindset sees interests as unchangeable, while a growth mindset views interests and passions as developed. A growth mindset of interest comes with many advantages, while a fixed mindset may discourage exploration. In one study, after we excited participants’(参与者的) interest in a topic of black holes with an easy-to-understand video, people with a fixed mindset came to dislike the topic when faced with a technical article. Those with a growth mindset kept their new-found interest despite the difficulty.
So can a growth mindset of interest be taught We published findings with 700 liberal arts undergraduates, most of whom held limited interest in math and science. We offered students either our intervention (干预) or a study skills module. The intervention included reading and reflective writing activities that helped students think about interests and passions as developed rather than found and fixed. For example, students wrote a paragraph about a case when they developed interest in a new activity. The study skills module, meanwhile, stressed practices such as time management. By the end of the school year, the students who had received the intervention were more interested in their required math and science courses——and earned better grades in those courses—than their study skills peers.
While our intervention offers a way for schools to support their students, we also believe people can independently build up a growth mindset of interest. Realize that passions aren’t waiting to be “found.” Take an active role in developing them.
28. What does “this misunderstanding” underlined in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Passions can be developed with more practices.
B. Interest is of great help to build up confidence.
C. Passions are fixed and wait to be uncovered.
D. Interest can be discouraged by repeated work.
29. Why does the author mention the “black holes” study
A. To make a prediction. B. To show the difference.
C. To disagree with a decision. D. To explain the rule.
30. What can we learn about the study from paragraph 4
A. Better grades contributed to one’s favour to a subject.
B. Reflective writings helped students build up interest.
C. Study skills were used to reduce students’ stress.
D. Students were grouped based on types of mindsets.
31. Which of the following does the author probably agree with
A. Love what you do, and you’ll keep going and become better.
B. Find what you love, and you’ll never have to work a day.
C. It can always be easy and exciting to dig into new areas.
D. It is much better to get lost in the passion than to lose it.

When the shrill(尖锐的) ring of the phone echoed (回响) through the living room, Jane was still sleeping. She slowly opened her sleepy eyes and looked at the clock on the bedside table. It was already nine o'clock! Though still sleepy, Jane knew she had to get up because her mother had been working in her office day and night for several days and she couldn't expect her younger brother Tom, who was sleeping like a pig, to answer the phone. She quickly put on a coat and dashed into the living room. As she picked up the receiver, on the other end came the warm greeting, "Good morning, my dear!"
It was the voice of her father, a sea man who seldom returned home due to his duties earning money to support the family. On hearing her father's voice, Jane's sleepiness disappeared.
Born in a not-so-rich family, Jane and Tom felt the stress of life, but they were happy to enjoy the family atmosphere. At school, they were straight-A students and took part in various after-school activities, earning the pride of their loved ones.
"Good morning, Dad. Why are you calling so early on a weekend " Jane inquired, pretending to be slightly annoyed. "Tom and I have been very nice recently." "My dear, today is your mother's birthday. I have ordered a cake online and it will arrive at our doorstep in the late afternoon. Do remember to take the cake. It is my surprise for your mother."
Upon hearing her father's words, Jane felt a twinge of embarrassment. How could she have forgotten such an important day!
While chatting with her father, Jane's gaze(凝视)wandered around the room and saw a lot of dirty clothes scattered(散落)on the sofa. The floor hadn't been cleaned for a few days since her mother had been too busy with work this week to attend to such domestic matters.
Glancing at the clock again, Jane realized she still had enough time to prepare a surprise for her mother.
"Well, Dad, now I'm going to wake Tom up. We will give Mum a surprise, too!" Jane said and hung up the telephone.
