Project in Singapore The fantastic man-made "forest" is a Singaporean landmark. It is made from steel and concrete(混凝土) covered in flowers and plants. At night, 18 solar-powered tree-like towers which get their energy from the sun often light up the city. The project was awarded "the World Building of the Year" and its designer said the idea was to create "a city in a garden". Clearly, the special way of building up the forest makes a difference to the public's awareness of the environment.
Project in Milan By decorating the buildings from top to bottom with more than 20,000 trees and plants, Italian architect Stefano Boeri said he'd wanted to make trees part of the buildings and create something that could help to reduce pollution. These buildings lie in the center of the city, Milan. Which types of trees are planted and where the trees are planted depend on the trees' likes for sunlight. There is no doubt that this award-winning project is a great work. Project in Medellin Medellin has won high praise for its "green corridors(走廊)". This project helps the city which used to be poor and dirty get a new look. Now the 30 corridors full of trees and flowers connect green spaces such as parks and gardens in Medellin. The green corridors have reduced the temperature by 2-3 degrees and helped make the air clean. Bees and birds have returned. To make the beauty of the city remain, more gardening jobs have been created. Because of this, people there live more actively. It is one of the best examples driven by the government which improves the environment.

B(2023·重庆中考B卷)
①Green is the color of nature and the symbol of life. For thousands of years, humans have followed the laws of nature to live in harmony(和谐) with nature.
②That has been seen in ancient Chinese houses. Ancient Chinese often built their homes at the foot of the mountain with a river running nearby. The mountains could stop the cold wind from the north and the river provided water for life. Most houses were also built facing south or west so that the rooms were able to get enough sunshine in winter and keep cool in summer.
③In modern times, humans didn't follow the laws of nature during fast development. Luckily, it's never too late to make changes.
④Green development is the goal of all countries. On April 23, 2016, China signed the Paris Agreement on climate change, giving a strong push to the international efforts against global(全球的) warming.
⑤Also in China, the government added green development to the country's work plans. From 1999 to the end of 2018, by carrying out Mother River Protection Operation, China raised 600 million yuan to build over 5,700 green projects. Through international cooperation(合作), over 98.32 million trees were planted across China.
⑥Denmark is a leading country in wind and solar technologies. This year Denmark has started the "Power-to-X" plan, providing about 1.25 billion kroner (about 1.27 billion yuan) for projects producing hydrogen(氢气).
⑦Builders across the world are also playing a role in green development. In Chicago, pressed newspapers, recycled glass and plastic are used on buildings. In Bali, the green school is made from bamboo. The school gets its electricity(电) from solar panels(太阳能电池板), water power and a generator that burns farm waste.
⑧Following the laws of nature is the only way out. A small move in one country may influence the global community as a whole. Let's join hands to make the world a better place for now and future.
( )34.What do we know about the ancient Chinese houses
A. They were built on the mountain. B. They were built far from rivers.

The Maowusu Desert, once one of the four main deserts in China, is becoming a green land. It is between Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia and was known as "Devil's Land(恶魔之地)" in the past. Many years ago, local people experienced a lot of sandstorms. Just to get out of their houses they had to clear thick sand away from front doors.
From 1959, local people decided to fight back the sand. Since then, they have planted trees to slow down the wind, and worked hard to turn the sandy land into farmland. Yin Yuzhen came to live near the Maowusu Desert after she married her husband in 1985. Once she saw a small tree growing in their yard, and then she decided to protect her family through planting trees.
Yin and her husband bought 600 small trees in the spring of 1986 and planted them around their house. Though she had taken very good care of the trees, only 10 of them were still alive in the following year. Instead of feeling sad, Yin was hopeful. She said it meant that trees could live in this environment. After 30 years of hard work by Yin and her family, the sand world around their house has become an endless green place.
Now 80% of the Maowusu Desert has been changed. Today, there are forests, farmlands, cows and sheep and even highways in the desert.

It came from the Gobi Desert areas of Mongolia(蒙古), reported China Daily. This year's wind was very strong there. It is because the temperatures this spring are higher than before. 44. So the land was dry and it was difficult for plants to hold sand and dust.
45. In the 1970s, China started the Three-North Shelter Forest Program("三北"防护林工程). It planned to plant trees in northern China to stop sandstorms and improve the environment. More than 30 million areas of trees have been planted, according to People's Daily. Besides, China has a color-graded warning system for sandstorms, with red meaning the most serious, following orange, yellow, blue and green. 46.
But it also needs the effort of many countries. 47. For example, about 70 percent of the land in Mongolia is facing desertification(沙漠化). Sand in the country has become a main reason for sandstorms in China and other countries nearby.
A. There was also little rainfall.
B. However, it's not impossible.
