It was the last day of the school year. The classroom was filled with excitement. When our teacher, Mr Johnson, walked in, holding a CD player, everyone's face lit up with a smile. We knew that this wasn't going to be another normal day, but a special one.
"Please calm down and sit," said Mr. Johnson. "I'm glad everyone's here for the final reading test of the year." When everyone cried, Mr. Johnson laughed, saying it was just a joke. Then he reminded us that we still had a job to do. "You need to clean out your desks and put all your things into your backpacks," he added gently.
As we began our task, Mr. Johnson turned on the CD player. The lively music made the room feel like a party. Some of us started singing along with the music, and others were dancing around their desks while they were cleaning them out. Even Mr. Johnson showed us a few dance steps, making everyone laugh heartily. C(2023·山东济南中考三模)
Each of us has dreams and goals for our future. What makes us study and improve each day is closely connected with our personal dreams and goals.
But why do you still end up with nothing even though you have dreams and goals What separates successful people from the dreamers is their persistent(坚持不懈的) action. When you learn your lessons in school, you must work hard and not give up. You will often find some of your lessons very hard. Try and keep trying, and you'll be sure to successfully deal with any difficulty you meet with. If we have a hard lesson today, let us try our best to learn it well and then we shall be prepared for a harder one tomorrow.
This is the famous formula(公式) for success:
Dream>Believe>Achieve
Most people have what they want (Dream) and think they can realize their dreams (Believe). And then they do nothing. They just imagine their dreams can come true. When they get tired of waiting and lose a lot, they get bored. They say angrily how terrible their life is.
I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formula:
  Dream>Believe>Act>Achieve
For me, act is the most important thing for success, and that's to Take Persistent Action (Act). If you say, "I can't do it" and give up, you can never do anything valuable. However, "I'll try" creates wonders. Let's remember that there will be obstacles in our life. We must face them bravely and solve them. Success is not something that falls from the sky. Most successful people make their dreams come true because of their persistent action.
Please remember: Action is the bridge that connects our dreams and goals to reality.
( )40.What should you do when you find your lessons very hard
A. Ask people for help. B. Try and keep trying.
C. Get ready to create wonders. D. Prepare for a harder one.
( )41.Which word does the writer add to the famous formula
A. Act. B. Achieve. C. Connect. D. Create.
( )42.What does the underlined word "obstacles" mean
A. Dangers. B. Imaginations.
C. Wonders. D. Difficulties.
( )43.Why does the writer use the formula "Dream>Believe>Act>Achieve"
A. To support his idea.
B. To ask readers to explain it.
C. To show what his goals are.
D. To compare it with a bridge.
( )44.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A. Doing Something Valuable
B. Studying Hard and Making Progress
C. Realizing Dreams with Persistent Action
D. Separating Successful People from Dreamers

English Homework Helps Me Level Up
My favourite kind of English homework is acting out a play. It can help improve my language skills and make me confident.
When I was in Grade 8, my teacher asked us to act out the play Romeo and Juliet in a group of six. It was a big challenge. Firstly, I read the play with group members and we shared our understanding of the play. Then, we chose our roles and practised the lines a lot. My spoken English improved. In the end, we put on a great show and won praise. Now I'm interested in acting and feel brave enough to show myself in front of the public.

Last month, our school held a speech competition. It was about the development of our motherland. It lasted three days. My classmate Li Hua took part in it for our class. Before the competition, he was nervous because he didn't know how to prepare for it. Our English teacher told him to search for information on the Internet. Thanks to his suggestion, Li Hua got to know more about the development of our motherland. He was surprised at her great changes and felt proud. He spent five days preparing for it and finally won first prize. Li Hua was very happy about the result.

Quiet now, please. I want to give you some information about our school visit to the University of Science and Technology of China. It's on June 10th. I think it'll be a really interesting day. Be here and ready to go by 8:20 am. It may be hot that day, so remember to bring some water with you. Please tell your parents that we're going there by coach, not by underground. We'll visit the library and some labs of the university. Then one of the teachers in the university will give us a talk. After the talk, the teacher will show us some videos about saving people in different situations. By the way, don't bring any food, please. They are going to give us some nice sandwiches for our lunch there. Now, does anyone want to ask any questions about the visit
