We've all seen the beautiful photos of colourful vegetables and freshly-cooked cakes in books and magazines. When we see these pictures, we believe that if we follow the instructions that tell us how to cook them, we can make food that looks like that too. However, not many people think about a strange thing that how photographers change a simple plate of food into the mouth-watering dishes in the photos.
Food is one of the most difficult subjects for photographers. Hot food goes cold, cold food goes dry, and frozen ice cream melt, making it useless. But don't worry, because food photographers have the tools to deal with these problems. They don't just visit the shops of photographic equipment. They also visit art shops, garages(汽修厂). As well as cameras, a photographer's bag includes motor oil(机油) to help sauces(调味汁) look brighter, hairspray(发胶) to stop cakes looking dry, and shoe polish(鞋油) to help meat look cooked.
There are a few rules about food that photographers have to follow. If a photo is going to become part of an advertisement(广告), rules say the food which people want to advertise must be the real thing. However, any other food in the photo doesn't need to be real, according to the rules. But even when the rules allow it, that really makes their job challenging.

Nowadays, many people post their original pictures(原图) on the Internet to share their life but that may tell more than you think.
Pictures often have information left by digital cameras or smartphones. This kind of information is called Exchangeable Image File Format(EXIF). It can tell small facts you can't get from pictures directly. It tells exactly when and where the picture was taken, the kind of your camera or phone and which picture apps you used.
For example, if you take a picture from your window and post it online, it means that you are showing your location to some people you don't know. They can successfully deduce(推断)where your home is from EXIF. Maybe they will post something strange to your home or even come to your door!
Here is some advice for you to keep personal information safe when you share pictures. On computers, edit(编辑) pictures with Photoshop before sharing them. What's more, you can send the pictures to a computer first, open the data documents of pictures and click on "No EXIF data". While on smartphones, when you have to send pictures on the Internet, do not click "original pictures". And you can also turn off location services for the camera before you take pictures. There's one more thing you can do — take pictures with a traditional camera that can't connect to the Internet.
Next time you post your pictures, please make 100% sure of your online safety. Just try to follow the ways to keep away from showing your personal informaticn on the Internet.
