Do you ever find yourself standing in front of rubbish bins(垃圾箱), not sure whether the piece of waste in your hand is recyclable(可回收的) or not To solve this problem, four Hong Kong high school students have invented a smart rubbish bin that uses AI to sort the waste. The students named the bin Waste Collection Point.
Connected to a computer, the bin uses a camera to tell the kind of the waste it receives and sorts it into plastic, paper, glass, or other kinds. To make sure the bin can sort waste correctly, the team tested every product in the school shop and took at least 500 pictures of each one. "To train the AI, we had to take many photos from different angles(角度), so it can be more accurate," said one of the students who built the AI system.
The idea of the smart bin was born two years ago, when the students were in Grade Ten. At that time, people from the city crowded into their village. They left behind rubbish and caused pollution.
"All the bins were full, and there was even rubbish on the mountain," the students recalled. "Every weekend, we had to join the villagers in picking up the waste."
The students decided to develop a special recycling bin that would encourage people to protect the environment. Although school ended at 2 pm, the team would continue to work on their invention until 6 or 7 pm at school. Even when their school was closed last year, they would still meet and work together online.
"Our bin is now in its third generation. Before graduation, we hope it can be widely used in the city," the students said. "Then it will be easier than ever for people to recycle and protect our environment."

[外文原味新素材|70年后猎豹回到印度]Cheetahs(猎豹) are going back to India. They died out 70 years ago in the country.
Namibia(纳米比亚) has given 8 African cheetahs — 5 females and 3 males — to Kuno National Park in India. The 8 cheetahs are all aged between 2 and 6 years old. The park was chosen because cheetahs can catch many animals here.
The park hopes that the cheetahs will help to balance the ecosystem(平衡生态系统). They would do this by eating herbivores(草食动物) and there are too many herbivores and they eat too much plant life. If it all goes well, more cheetahs could soon follow.
Cheetahs are famous for their record-breaking speeds across Africa. But what most people don't know is that they once lived across Asia, such as the Middle East and India. But in the 1950s, they died out in India. That was because humans killed them. Humans also took over much of their natural land. The cheetahs could not get enough food and died out in the country. And now there may be as few as 12 Asian cheetahs in the wild in Asia. But even African cheetah numbers have been going down greatly. Now there are only about 7,000 adult cheetahs left in the world.

Second, we should recycle things like old books and clothes by giving them to people who need them or having a yard sale to sell them. Third, in order to save electricity, we should turn off the lights or air conditioners when we don't use them. Fourth, we should plant more trees to make the world a greener place. Besides, it will be better if we walk or ride bikes to school.
