条件状语从句表示主句动作或状况的发生所需要的条件，常用if或unless引导。条件状语从句位置灵活，可直接放在主句后面，也可放在句首。放在句首时，从句后面要用逗号和主句隔开。
if 引导的条件状语从句
if连词，意为“如果；假如”，引导条件状语从句时，要遵循“主将从现”、“主情从现”和“主祈从现”的原则。即if引导的条件状语从句在下列情况下，通常用一般现在时：
①当主句是一般现在时或是一般将来时时；
②当主句是祈使句时；
③当主句含有情态动词时。
eg：If she doesn't come，she will be sorry.如果她不来，她会遗憾的。

unless 引导的条件状语从句
unless是从属连词，意思是“除非”，引导条件状语从句，相当于if...not。其用法与if引导的条件状语从句用法相同。
eg：Unless it rains，the game will be held.除非下雨，(否则)比赛将照常进行。
You will fail to arrive there in time unless you start earlier.如果你不早点动身，你就不能及时赶到那儿。
【注意】①当某种否定的条件是造成我们所谈论的情况的主要原因时，只能用if...not，不能用unless。
eg：My parents will be angry if I don't get back in time.如果我不及时回去，我的父母会生气的。
②句型“祈使句＋and/or＋简单句(一般将来时)”可以与句型“if/unless 条件状语从句＋主句”进行同义转换。
