Oceans cover two-thirds of our Earth. There are five main oceans which all flow into each other: the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Southern Ocean.
What are the Layers of the Ocean
Oceans are made of five layers or depths. Each layer has different characteristics (特点), such as the temperature and the amount of light. They have unique creatures (独特的生物) living within them.
The Sunlight Zone-up to 200m below the surface of the ocean
There is plenty of sunlight and heat in this zone although both decrease (减少) as you go deeper. There are many different living things within this layer, including seaweed, dolphins, fish, and coral reefs. Humans enjoy this warm layer for activities such as swimming and fishing.
The Twilight Zone-up to 1,000m below the surface of the ocean
Only weak sunlight reaches this deeper layer. No plants grow within this layer. It is home to sea animals which often have large eyes, including the sea cucumber, the wolf eel, the swordfish and the octopus. Humans can dive to this layer wearing protective suits.
The Midnight Zone-up to 4,000m below the surface of the ocean
The Midnight Zone is pitch-black because sunlight cannot reach this layer. Some light can be seen from creatures that make their own light, such as anglerfish, jelly fish and viperfish.
Abyss-up to 6,000m below the surface of the ocean
The sunlight cannot reach this layer at all, so it is pitch-black and near freezing. Very few creatures live here, but those that do are mainly transparent (透明的), blind invertebrates (无脊椎动物), such as lanternfish, squid and amphipod.
The Trenches-up to 11,000m below the surface of the ocean
The Trenches are narrow, underwater valleys of the ocean floor which have high pressure and near-freezing temperature. There is no natural light in this zone, but different creatures can be found, such as sea stars.

Today, however, the tradition of going to the hamam is dying out for many young people. Now almost everyone has running water in their bathrooms,so they prefer to bathe at home. 67 ,Turkish people are not going to hamams as often as they used to.These days, instead of relying on locals, many hamams are trying to attract foreign tourists.
A typical 68 at a hamam can last well over an hour.Visitors will be welcomed into entrance hall. There they will be able to relax with friends and chat over a cup of tea. They will also be able to change into the Turkish towel, which wraps around the waist like a skirt. When ready, visitors will head into the hot room. There they will lie on the hot floor and be scrubbed clean and massaged by one of the in﹣house masseurs or masseuses.Men and women always bathe separately(分开地),but their experiences are very 69 .
Although many hamams are in danger of closing, they will always remain a part of Turkish culture. An experience in one of Istanbul's famous bath houses should not be 70 on any visit to Turkey. It will certainly leave you refreshed, relaxed, and squeaky clean for your next adventure.

When Words Get Stuck
Does this happen to you You are in the middle of a conversation. Suddenly, you get stuck on a word. It’s r 71 there … if you could just remember. You move on. Hours later, the word comes to you. However, you no longer need it— that conversation is over.
What happened You have just experienced a tip-of-the-tongue moment. Well, you don’t need to feel n 72 about it. Such moments are just part of the way we communicate.
Lise Abrams is a psychology(心理学)professor at the University of Florida. He has studied tip-of-the-tongue moments for more than 20 years. According to his r 73 , anyone, in any culture, any language and any age group, experiences tip-of-the-tongue moments.
We are more likely to get stuck on words we s 74 use. It’s because we’re not so familiar with these words. Besides, proper nouns(专有名词)lead to tip-of-the-tongue moments more often. The reason might be that a proper noun may m 75 different people or things that just have the same name.
Here is an example. Think of the name of the hero in the last novel you read. Now think of a tool with many buttons you use to do calculations. Which word comes to your mind first
“Calculator!” you will say. That’s because all calculators s 76 those same features(特点). As a result, you have more “clues” when you try to remember the word. On the other hand, dozens — if not hundreds — of novels have a Tom. They are all very different from each other.
Can we do something to a 77 tip-of-the-tongue moments Well, according to Abrams, one way is to use certain words or names more often. Say, if you can never seem to remember the name of that singer your classmates often talk about, try saying his or her name out loud whenever you can. It could save you from embarrassment someday.

D. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答问题)(12分)
As you probably know, the town council (议会) has got 1 million to spend in improving the town’s facilities for young people and we’re looking for great ideas on how to spend the money well. Post your ideas in the forum (论坛) below and let us know how we can make life better for you.
Here are some ideas.
There’s nothing for teenagers to do in this town, especially at night. Can we use the money to build a youth club Somewhere with a pool table and a table tennis table, perhaps. We need somewhere to play happily and hang out safely in the evenings. —Daisy, 15
I think the best use for the money is to build a playground in the town park. It should have lots of rides for the young kids. I’d like to have a skateboard park for a start and maybe if there is enough money, we can have a climbing wall, too. —Luke, 13
As I’m only 14, I can’t drive, so I go everywhere on my bike. But the roads are dangerous and many motorists drive too fast. How about spending the money in building more cycle lanes We could also put in more speed cameras and zebra crossings, too. This will make life safer for all our citizens, not just the young people. —Liz, 14
How about a big billboard at the entrance to the town that reads, “TEEN WARNING—there’s nothing to do here!” —Sadie, 16
This probably sounds like a boring idea, but can’t we use some of the money to buy more litter bins I feel ashamed of our town when I see much litter on the ground. We need to tidy up our town quickly! —Jack, 15
Our high street is full of empty shops because everyone just shops at the new shopping centre outside of town or online. Why don’t we use the money to turn some of these empty shops into an arts centre It can have studios where we can draw and paint or learn how to make films. We can also have a music studio where local bands can record music cheaply. —Alex, 17

【答案】
Dear president,
I am writing this letter to you very carefully. We all know that the beautiful environment and rich activities make our school life full of laughter and harvest. However, there are still some inappropriate behaviors in schools.
For example, some students throw away rubbish everywhere. And some people destroy public property. I think we should take some measures to stop them from doing these. We can put some signs to tell the students to take care of flowers and trees. At the same time, we can also hold some speeches to let the students know the importance of protecting the environment.
I think the school environment will become more and more beautiful under everyone’s effort.
Yours,
Li Hua

—Alex, 17
